Please someone help me!!!

My 6 & half month old baby has started (EVERY NIGHT for the last 4 weeks now) waking up screaming after approx. 9 hours sleep. It started when he got his 4 top teeth (got his first tooth at 3 months old, then another a week after and the top 4 decided to show at the same time - 4 weeks ago).

At first I thought it was teething and would give him some CalJel (we left our Bonjela at my Mum's and my husband bought this - not loving it), but he wouldn't stop screaming, I would have to rock him non-stop for an hour. Leaving me tired as he would then fall asleep on me in our bed and I'd be awake from 4am till the alarm goes off.

We've stopped bringing him into our bed now, he still wakes up - we just rock him for 30 mins/hour in the rocking chair in his room, then put him down. I've tried just putting my hand on his back to let him know I'm there but it doesn't work and neither does bouncing him while he's lying in cot.

All all four teeth are now fully out and he is still doing it. It would always be the same time (or if he goes down an hour later, it'd be an hour later). It sounds like he's in agony - not a usual cry which I can ignore and let him self sooth himself out of. This is a screech and it won't stop no matter how long I pat his back in his cot. He arches his back and doesn't stop screaming until an hour of rocking....

Is this night terrors - is it teething - is it normal for his age (i.e. before a large development stage)....I haven't slept in four weeks and I thought I got out of this (he started sleeping through the night from 4 and half months old)....

Sorry - forgot to say that he is asleep during all the screaming. Doesn't open his eyes....

Is he hungry? I don't have much advise, as my LO still wakes every 2-4 hours! I'd kill for a 9 hour stretch!!

I must admit, we haven't tried giving him a bottle - when he started sleeping through he stopped the night feeds. I'll try giving him a bottle tonight when he wakes, see if that stops the screams...

Thanks and fingers crossed your little one sleeps longer soon :)

Thanks! I hope so too!! :coffee:

There is a growth spurt at 6 months, so he might just be hungry :)

My LO is 4 months old and he does this a lot during the night with his eyes closed. I give him a bottle and that usually settles him. I think he's teething also :(

Thank you ladies. I was worried it might be night terrors - which I read that you can't do anything to help, just stand there and wait it out. Or maybe something is wrong with him and I'm not doing anything as I don't know what is wrong...

I'm going to give him a bottle tonight and I hope he just takes it easy and it stops his screaming. I don't mind going back to feeding him at night as it beats an hour of painful screaming :)
