It's not at all selfish. I wish my husband would agree to more than three, but as two was his maximum before I persuaded him to have a third, I think pushing him to four would be a bit much I would love four kids. My dream would be to have twins next giving me the four kids I really want (and for some strange reason I have always had a strong desire to have twins). As PPs have mentioned, if you're in a financial situation where you could give five kids a good quality of life, then why not have five kids?
As for age gaps; there will be 2.5 years between my son and this little one. After her though, we want to start TTC again straight away. I don't expect us to be successful for a while, as I didn't get my periods back after my son until I stopped breastfeeding him at 14 months. Ideally I'd like a really small gap of between 12 and 18 months, but I expect it'll be more like two years.
Purplecupcake: Just out of curiosity? Why do you want your first to be out of the cloth nappies before your second goes into them too? I am new to cloth nappying as we used disposables with my son (we lived in a tiny flat till he was 1.5, so washing and drying them wouldn't have been appropriate - we had enough washing hanging all over the main living space as it was). Now though, we'll be using cloth nappies with this new little one and her little brother or sister when they eventually come along (been building my stash and ridiculously excited about it all), but I didn't know they wouldn't both be able to use them. Is it recommended that children don't overlap with nappies?
