Well i only finished my AF yesterday iv heard that evening primrose oil can help thin CM,, but i dint expect peppermint oil to have an affect,, maybe it could be just me b4 my AF i had terrible consipation for weeks serverely bloated constantly hungry and even waking up bloated hungry i was fuming the fact i suffered so badly with IBS and it was being so hostile towards me i went and popped along to the chemist to ask what can i do i was so uncomfortable i was almost in tears with it  well the chemist recomended peppermint oil capsules i knew a sneaky suspicion i wasnt preggys anyway but b4 i brought theses peppermint oil capsules i asked them look i dont want anything thats going to threaten my chances of ttc or if it does happen i want something to take thats safe she told me at the counter that its absultley fine :coffee:

well i toke these peppermint oil capsules and iv been taking it to reduce my bloating and hopefully helping me go to the toilet to loosen my bowels aswell,, first couple of days it dint even affect my consipation but just made my bloated ease alittle,, i taken these capsules for a week now,, well iv only just finished my period and had spotting yesterday i mist out a day yesterday of taking the peppermint oil capsules,, but i toke one today min i checked my cervical mucus its watery so i put on my chart watery it pops up as fertile mucus now iv had diarrea today with sickness but im so relived my bowels are finually easier to pass,, but thing is its my tummy ache i dont like but iv heard EPO thins CM out, but is it possible aswell that peppermint oil can do the same iv tried to find out what i can on the interent about it but then i see its not surposed to be taken ttc WARNING because it can prevent pregnancy and also itsa not to be taken during pregnancy so im kinda confused,,, about this now,, but my CM today was watery and normally when iv finished a period its dry im wondering if now peppermint oil is actually safe to take im panacking abit now that iv messed up my CM and made it more hostile this month or something now im worried when i next pop into the chemist asking questions im gonna get the wrong answer and being led to believe it was safe when now im having extreme doubts i think only way to fix it is to get some EPO to ride it out and over take it and drink lots of graphfruit juice instead   a word of warning tho ladies be careful if you also have this same problem because you never know weither you might of been given false information when buying stuff over the counter just be aware!!!!

for those of you who dont know what IBS is it stands for irriatable bowel syndrome ,, which is spasms in the bowel that can cause pain mine affects me badly even throwing up first thing in the morning sometimes to get rid of the pain in my tummy when iv got terrible pain in my stomache and feel so blocked and sluggish inside last month my IBS was so bad tho i could hardly breath properly with the weight under my ribs frm being so bloated i couldnt shift it no matter how little or nothing i ate or after a meal.. it hurt so bad i couldnt even sleep well because of it

Jaydee... Calm down, please.

It's ok.

Peppermint is excellent for IBS, is not toxic and does not accumulate. Taking an excess of it in oil form may cause an increase in gut motility which is not advised when pregnant because it leads to contractions in the uterus.

Use peppermint oil as much as you like before you ovulate. After you ovulate, get some peppermint chewing gum, any brand, and use that whenever you experience pain. It can't cause loose stools like the oil can.

In the meantime you really need to do something about your IBS. Go to a naturopath and get checked out for candida. Also start taking probiotics straight away. I use kefir to prevent IBS but probioic capsules or pot-set yoghurt might help as well. Avoid any white bread, flour, white sugar or breakfast cereals while you have this problem.

IBS is hormonal, but should never get back to the level you have if you clean up your gut by following the recommendation of the naturopath. Tell him or her you are ttc.

No laxatives of any kind, herbal or otherwise are supposed to be taken when ttc or pregnant so that you do not accidentally cause an abortion. It is very important to clean up your gut in a safe way before then, because constipation is a common side-effect of pregnancy. It is not hard to do if you are willing to make some dietary changes.

Good luck!

i was thinking about doing a colon cleanse when im next on pmt im so worried because the peppermint oil capsules iv been taking have confused my Cervical mucus and made it watery just after iv finished my period its worrying me TBH because im fed up with IBS iv been to see a gyno ages ago abut the lower cramping i get when im not bleeding she blames it on poor diet but my diet it fine i eat fresh fruit and veggies cooked meals i ate brown rice for a whole day last week i was starving literually no matter weither i rashened it out through the day and yet again still had pain,,, im so scared that the peppermint oil capsules are having an affect on my CM because i never get watery CM i had loads of it yesterday and this is from taking peppermint oil capsules because nothing else iv had or eaten has affected it like this so it must be the peppermint oil capsules,,, iv heard that it shud be avoided cause it can prevent pregnancy frm happening so thats my biggist fear of using them for IBS yes your right maybe i am over reacting alittle but iv also heard it can cause uterine contractions when pregnant if i eat to much yogurt believe it or not i end up getting thrush down there iv not had thrush for ages now but if i do touch yogurt im frightened that i will end up in the GUM clinic wripping my hair out iching and scratching like mad and be very sore and wont be able to preform with my OH when i get thrush i get it bad to a stage im red roar down there frm iching so much only way to ease it is sit in a bath of salt water and keep doing it thats why i try to aviod yogurt or any dairy products i eat pasta salads mince lasagne , etc theres got to be something else i can take thats safe surely????

i mainly start to suffer IBS tho a few weeks after my period and it drives me sodding bonkers but sometimes when im woken up to early the pain in my stomache is unbareable and i literually have to force myself to throw up to get rid of the pain and its all yellowish fluid,, sorry tmi otherwise if i eat right after and dont throuw up i literually get reeally bad stomache ache right through the day and i get so bloated im in pain with it its definately IBS i suffer with and i was on mebervine tablets for it but they dont help much no more i think there called colfaic tablets not sure but becuase im ttc i wont take them these peppermint oil capsules iv got frm the chemist tho wasnt cheap for just 20 tablets over £6 a pack :( which are ment to be good ones for relief of IBS and bloating :(

I have never thought of peppermint oil having an effect on TTC. I am on colpermin (peppermint oil) as part of my treatment for IBS which was triggered by taking orlistat (prescribed by docs to try help me loose weight). Without taking my medication I end up in a right state with stomach pains. i pretty much can't eat ANYTHING other than meat and a small amount of veg and can't drink anything fizzy or coffee (both of which I rarely drink anyways). Can't eat anything oily, even an oily fish would have me doubled in two in pain. I don't think I could function without my peppermint oil and buscopan. What is the reason I am not to take peppermint oil after ovulation?

I have never noticed any connection to white bread, cereal etc but might give it a go to see if it helps.

Jaydee. The stress of worrying will be causing you more problems than eating the wrong things.

I agree with miaowzen. You need to see a nauropath. Pasta is likely to be making your IBS worse and live yogurt is good for thrush and IBS. I'd try cutting out wheat products and refined carbs. Inc fruit juice. Try probiotics and aloe Vera juice to calm digestion and add good bacteria. I'd also avoid raw veg as some people find it difficult to digest.

Are you in the UK? If you can't find a naturopath a good holistic nutirionist with proper qualifications will be fine.

Yoga maybe good too. Helps calm the sympathetic (fight or flight) nervous system.

Good luck.

hey although IBS can be very unque people find different things trigger it like hubby cant have anything canned but is fine with bread, good luck

thanks for your comments ladies i shall keep these things in mind as for stress its not stress related iv suffered with IBS sinse i was 23yrs old im now 32yrs old sometimes i just want to scream at my bowels last month i had IBS so terrible i literually felt like a pot belly pig about to explode frm feeling so bloated and hungry but consipated iv descided to try some nettle & peppermint herbal tea just b4 i ovulate which is a more gentle approach, which tried to relaxed the bloating alittle, in fact i drank a cup after i ate my dinner i felt full

but i was sick in the morning frm the pain frm IBS i have stopped taking colpermin (peppermint oil) but lately im so skeptic still about them,,im taking folic acid, EPO,zinc, vit c,omega3 atmo,,, hoping that these will help with ttc

Hi Jaydee how are things now? I am ttc and suffer with IBS too. I had been perscribed Meberverine which I do think helped. But i was worried to take them as I too am TTC. As they say do not take if preg/or trying - I only took them around AF. I went to docs after making this thread:

https://www.babyandbump.com/trying-to-conceive/860113-anyone-else-ttc-whilst-suffering-ibs.html

And I was prescibed Mintec (peppermint oil) (much cheaper on prescription - 84 capsules for price of a prescription). I don't know that they are helping so well. I havn't noticed a change in cm though. I was just doing a search on here re. peppermint oil an this popped up....any change for you or anyone else?

I also suffer from IBS and am in my two week wait after FET. I found that the FODMAP diet really works for me because different things affect different people in different ways. For example i cant eat apples or cabbage but i can eat oranges and carrots. It is a new discovery from Australia and The only book on it is IBS - free at last by Patsy Catsos. The internet gives you updates on the book from more recent research. For the first time in years i had a flattish stomach because i was not bloated (about two weeks of the month i used to look pregnant which is so cruel). Currently in two week wait and cannot stop eating cake (gluten free) and found the stress has increased my appetite soooo much. Eating too much is terrible for my IBS. This is our last go at IVF (our fifth go) so so many emotions going on and so many thoughts going on in my head.
