Ok so I'm probably gonna be asking loads of really stupid questions on her over the next little while. At least until I figure all this cloth nappy stuff out.

Todays question is........do I have to wash nappies at 60 (bumgenius). It says in the info that the hire service provided that you can only wash them at 30 or 40 with the addition of an antibacterial product to stop any nasty bugs.

So at the mo I'm washing at 60 as I've only got my non bio washing powder. Do I need to buy this antibacterial stuff and add it to my wash if I want to wash the nappies at 40? This is all so confusing. I really want to make this work, but I feel like my washing machine is constantly on the go, as I am having to do separate washes for all clothes and for nappies as most of the clothing cannot be washed at 60. HELP!!!!

Just wash it at 30 degrees in your normal non-bio. Before you give them back, do one 60 degree wash.

All nappies worth their salt are washable at 60 degrees as this is the temperature that sanitises properly. bumGenius actually says this is fine and NOT to use sanitisers so whoever is providing the trial has it a bit backwards. Anyway, it won't damage the nappies to wash at 60 if you want to and they won't be able to tell if you do!

bumGenius do say to use non-bio so I wouldn't use bio. I wouldn't use sanitiser either. I am guessing that the trial people will wash them in their own special way before lending them to somebody else anyway so you needn't worry.

I suppose the theoretical answer is that nappies should be washed at 60 or in bio or with sanitiser, but most nappy companies advise against bio and sanitiser as they aren't good for the fabrics or elastic and most say 30 is fine too. In practice, I have always found that 30 with non-bio and no sanitiser is fine. After nearly three years of doing this, you'd think I'd notice if the nappies were riddled with nasties!

I read Rachel's post and I would follow that.

But just to let you know i wash all my nappies at 60 with towels and/or baby clothes. I didn't used to, but there was a thread on here about ppl doing it, so i thought i would try and it was much easier and I haven't had any problems.
