After doing one term of Waterbabies with LO I just couldn't resist doing the underwater photoshoot at the end of it. It costs some £125 for the 10 week term of lessons and the photoshoot costs £45 in addition to this whether or not you get any decent photos.
Anyway, today we went to view the photos and there were a few I liked but the prices were just so high I had to go for the cheapest one which was £50 for a measly 9x6 inch print. :(
I guess £95 total isn't so bad for a one-off unusual photo but I can't help feeling we would have bought more if the prices had been a bit lower. OH has been stressing so much about money since I have been off work he basically stormed out after looking at the pricelist! Men! :dohh:
We had no access to the prices beforehand so I thought I would post a list of the prices in case other mummies were thinking of it. I still think I would do it again but just wish I had known the prices so i could have saved money in advance.

Oh and here is the pic I am going to have printed. It's very bad quality as it is a photo of the tiny paper printed sample sheet we got.

ETA: here is the other one I liked but won't be getting printed:

Forgot to add you can now also buy the digital images from Waterbabies for....wait for it £250 for 1 photo raw image "on a branded USB memory stick in a presentation box".

Incidentally I just went online and have seen that you can get a 30x20 canvas printed delivered from a number of other companies for about £50.

Wow. That is so expensive! My husband is a photographer but sadly he doesn't have the underwater housing for his cameras so we can't do the shot ourselves. The underwater housing for the DSLRs cost thousands of pounds... so I'd expect them to charge a fair bit for the photos but not that much!
We go to baby swim classes with a local company. We're paying £25 for the shoot and around £30 per image.
Thanks for posting the prices though

Beautiful photo :flower:

Wow- I was just thinking how ridiculously expensive that is and then I scrolled down and saw the photo - it's gorgeous, so worth it!!

I'djust get the cheapest one, scan it in and print other copies, or send them off to other companies to get canvas prints etc:haha:

On another note, my LO is doing classes and is 4months. We've just started 'dunking'. Do they still get the photo shoot, how far into the course do babies actually go under like this?

Thanks for the prices, I was thinking of doing this very soon.

Shame the photos are not stored online, then you could just take a good screenshot with a screenshot program and have it put onto a canvas etc for much much less.

Thanks for this we're starting Waterbabies next week! Now I know to save my pennies for the photoshoot!!! :) x

Gorgeous pic btw

The photo shoot is normally offered at the end of term. They are under a bit longer for the photo - 5-10 seconds which feels like an eternity for a mummy but as you can see he is quite relaxed!

Glad I haven't put people off. Like I said I just wish I'd been able to save more in advance and maybe choose another of the photos to print.

Jeez thats expensive!!
Im so glad my dad has all the under water Bits and bobs for his camera..
He took a load of photos on holiday and got 40 normal sized photos printed fr £16.99..
The photos arnt all the same and there not all for me.. Lol
X

wow... i never heard of waterbabies... i wana sign my lo up!!!

btw im still amazed soo beautifl

That picture is gorgeous!! I'm sooo jealous :(

We take our LO to waterbabies and he loves it. Even the swimming underwater haha, although Grandma and Auntie hate the thought of it lol

But as you have pointed out it already costs quite a lot for the lessons, there is no way we can afford nearly £100 for a tiny photo lol But it def is an amazing pic and you'll be able to scan it in and poss get a canvas or something made in the future. I think we would have bought a photo if it wasn't for the £45 fee just for getting the photos done.

^^ Funny you should say about grandma and aunty hating the thought of it. I have found some people think it's really cool and a good idea to get him confident in the water - above and below. Other people, some mums in playgroup and some family friends have told me I am "cruel", "making LO grow up too fast" and am "forcing him" to do it. Hopefully the picture shows them just how happy he is underwater. I mean the babies are never forced to do anything in classes, they are well prepared and don't get submerged if they are in any way upset, hiccupping or not ready as you will know.

Wow those prices are extortionate obviously underwater baby photography is the business to be in

thanks for that, we have completed two lessons so far but I had no idea the photoshoot alone would cost £45. I do totally agree that if the photos were cheaper people would buy more. The £45 alone should cover the cost (and more) of the equipment etc.

2016 - how many pics were taken?

Wow that is ridiculously expensive!! I would just buy a cheap disposable underwater camera and take some myself! I was considering doing water babies but now I'm really glad I didn't it seems like a bit of a con for money considering you could get the same thing for less.

The picture is lovely but blimey those prices are extortionate!!
I think they are really taking advantage and considering how many customers they must have I'm sure the price could be lower

we had 4 underwater swims - 2 of him on his own and 2 with me and 3 pictures were taken each time. Only 2 maybe 3 of the pics were worth looking at. I do think we could have got better pics but they were very disorganised on the day and kept us waiting around in the cold water for ages. He got tired and hungry and I ended up having to feed him in the pool so he got hiccups and had to wait longer. You would think they would know babies shouldn't be kept waiting around especially in cold water!

OH and I went for our honeymoon (5 years after we got married! :haha:) to the Seychelles and took 3 different brands of underwater camera. The sea was crystal clear and the waters calm and we took 90 photos in all in the sea and also in the resort swimming pool. It cost us over £100 to have them developed as film costs much more to process these days and we have 1-2 shots where you can actually see what we tried to take a picture of and, truthfully, I could have drawn a better picture by hand! :dohh: I now have no faith in underwater sposies so just wanted to tell you in case you wasted your money.
