I had my midwife appt yesterday and I've gained 27 lbs so far at 26 weeks. She said this is too much and can make for a harder delivery. I was at an all inclusive resort on vacation last week and ate a lot do I'm sure that didn't help but normally I eat pretty healthy and drink a ton of water. I do indulge in the occasional sweet snack like icecream. I left the appt in tears. DH was so sweet about it though and told me I look great and went on a 2 mile walk with me after dinner.

The first pic is from 7 weeks and the second is 26 weeks

I haven't weighed myself for a week or 2 but at last check I had gained 14lbs so far. I actually can't remember how much or how quickly I gained with DS1, I just remember that after he was born and my 'mum tum' had gone, I needed to lost 1 stone to get back to my pre-pregnancy size.

Oh sugar, I feel for you. Im not too far off from you, and althought my Dr hasnt said anything yet, I truly believe part of the gain is just genetic also. If you are eating decent, its all you can do. Dont beat yourself up, I think you look great! :hugs:

:hugs:

I've struggled to keep my weight gain within the upper range of normal. It's really hard for me despite being an active person who watches what she eats.

There are some good tables on weight gain weekly averages you can get by Googling.

I'm getting to the point where I just want to throw out the scales. It's hard to sort out the water weight gain from baby weight gain from fat stores gain.

There are negative potentials from gaining too much weight from gestational complications to big babies to more weight to loss post-partum.

Stay active. Eat healthy. And try not stress too much about the actual numbers. Some women gain more.

PS. I don't know about you, but vacations always result in a temporary weight bump that evens out after a week or two of getting back to the normal routine.

I know its my hormones but your post made me cry!! I am so sorry you left your appointment in tears but your DH sounds like a wonderful hubby! (that's the part that made me cry!)
You and your bump look absolutely gorgeous! Don't worry about it just keep eating healthy foods and exercise but DON'T try to lose weight! I have bee stressing big time about weight, in the last 9 weeks I have gained 8lbs! My doc says to watch you weight but if you go over not to worry about it so much. It can be dangerous to lose weight while preg. Some women just gain more than the normal and some babies are just bigger. The typical 25lbs that you are supposed to gain accounts for an average of a 7lb baby, mine were 8 and 9 lbs!

I don't have any advice on gaining, but I just wanted to say that you look absolutely fantastic and healthy and have such a cute bump! :hugs:

I right there with you with a very similar weight gain number! My doc hasn't said anything about it but when I look at the charts on google, I know I am gaining too quickly :) I feel like I have been starting to scale down my meals and cutting out so much junk so I have a lot of hope for the rest of the pregnancy!

You look fantastic!! You don't look like you have gained 27lbs at all...remember our body's are doing the most amazing thing possible and all react in different ways!! You are all bump!!!

I have my 25 week midwives appointment on Friday and I'm dreading what they're going to say about my weight!!

Don't worry too much about it. :) If you're feeling healthy and fit, that's all that matters.

I'm 24 weeks and my midwives had never bothered to weigh me, probably because they can see I'm gaining adequately. When I use babycenter's pregnancy weight checker, I'm at the very top range of what I should gain. It shocks me a bit because I always have trouble gaining weight, but I try to remember if weight gain helps with making sure my blood pressure isn't too low to cause dizziness, I'm feeling well, etc. then that's really all that matters.

And if it makes you feel better, last pregnancy I went on a 7 day cruise and gained 10 lb.

Lovey you look wonderful, I gained 56lb - a lot of it was water weight 25lb of which I lost on the day of delivery. DS was 10lb3oz and I in no way had a difficult delivery - not a single stitch and hardly any time pushing despite being flat on my back.
As long as you are not eating junk 24/7 then there isn't a lot you can do about how much you gain.
xx

I'm in the UK and my midwife doesn't monitor weight. I gained 4 1/2 stone with DD and lost 2 1/2 instantly at birth. Another 1/2 in water that week after and then another 1 in 3 months. Doesn't mean it's fat.

As for difficult delivery, tosh. For example, all of my family were overweight and all had less than 3 hour labours and no stitches.

Thanks ladies. The funny thing is i never weight myself and wouldn't even keep track if I didn't get weighed at my appts. I guess my hormones got the best of me having someone tell me I'm gaining too much weight.

From your photos alone it would seem any weight you have gained is all baby. I, personally, think you look fantastic. My friend who was super tiny prepregnancy gained fourty pounds and her son was born early as well so she would of gained more and her delievery went smoothly. Just remember to excersize lightly and eat healthy. Dont stress about it because from what you say youre doing amazing already.

You look good to me, not like you've put on much weight at all. I look and feel huge, okay they are two babies but people think I am about to go into labour :( I asked the last doctor I saw and she said it was okay at the moment, I start with a high risk doctor soon so this opinion might change. I think a lot of it is liquid retention though, because I don't think I eat any more than before being pregnant (I have lots of food aversions and nausea).

Calm- if doc says all is good I wouldn't worry.

I must admit that weight gain is not really on the top of the list of my worries, just feel very uncomfortable though and wonder how it will end (and if I will be able to move at all)

Aww bless you:hugs:. I echo pps in that you look like you are all bump and haven't put on in other places.
I gained 3.5 st with dd1. I last weighed myself about 5 weeks ago and had gained 12lbs (this was around 18 weeks) but have since moved house and got rid of the scales!
Loads of the weight I gained first time was water weight (probably 1.5st) baby was almost 9lb. I never lost the last 11lb but hey ho.
Don't worry about it hun, everyone is different, just try to eat as healthily as you can (but don't deny yourself what your body is craving either).
Xxx

I think you look great! I was at about the same last pregnancy and gained 40 by the end. At my 7 week postpartum checkup I had 10 left to lose. Those last 10 came off within a couple months. I wouldn't worry at all!

I have gained 41lb so far so you have nothing to worry about. You don't even look an unhealthy weight so her comments have me a little baffled to be honest. Honestly, if I thought you did look too large I just wouldn't have commented. My midwife hasn't said anything about my weight gain, probably because I was clinically underweight before but still, I don't think either of us have anything to worry about. As long as you get a bit of gentle exercise and your diet is varied then I think you're just fine :)

Drs can be so insensitive sometimes, and it makes me SO mad!! You look great hun, and as long as you are walking and not eating fast food 24/7, there's not much more you need to do other than enjoy your pregnancy! I gained 60lbs while still working out/eating healthy during my last pregnancy, and as the OP suggested mine was certainly genetic, as my grandmother gained a lot with each pregnancy, as did my MIL. I had a natural labor and only minor tears internally, so in no way did my weight gain hinder my boy's birth! and he was 7lbs 3oz so not overly big either. Try to take Drs suggestions with a grain of salt...they don't know our bodies better than we do!
