Hi Ladies,

I am looking for success stories of women who think weight loss helped them achieve their BFP. I was a LTTC'er (3 years) up until a year ago when I had bariatric surgery (weight loss) and had to go on contraception while I lost weight. In the last year I have lost ten and a half stone bringing me from a BMI of 51 down to a BMI of 28. Its been an amazing journey and my health has improved dramatically and although I am still losing weight (much slower now) and have about a stone to go to reach my target weight (set by myself) I have just had my contraceptive implant removed last week.

Previously DH and I had all the bloods ran, I was checked for PCOS etc and nothing was found to be causing us difficulty, however AF would go MIA for months on end, i had long cycles, could never pin point when or even IF i was ovulating etc. I have no idea how I am going to be this time round because I never had a period the whole time I was on the nexplanon. That said, I had it removed exactly a week ago and have been using OPK's for the last few days and this afternoon it was 'almost' positive so I am hopeful.

Anyways, I am looking to hear about others stories of weight loss and how it impacted on your cycles and fertility.

I got pg with #1 after losing 15 kg (a bit more than 30lbs), after the birth I put on all the weight back and more. I had bariatric surgery before I ttc. I was on birth control too while losing the weight (nuvaring). I became pg within 6 months, with 48-50 days cycles though (at least they were quite regular).

In your case I think that your body will need time to adjust after having taken off the implant. (I used the injection depo-provera acter #2 and it did mess up with my cycles even afterwards).

Good luck ttc!

Congrats on getting you BFP after weight loss!!

Thanks. My understanding is that the implanon doesn't mess up your fertility as much as the depo. In fact, I read that the hormone is completely out of your system within 7 days of removal and 55% of women ovulate within the first 3 weeks and 85% ovulate within 6 weeks so thats hopeful.

I am keen to see what my body does now after the weight loss. I've never been this light as an adult and never ever been regular so it would be lovely to have regular cycles. I've lost 147lbs to date and still have a stone I'd like to lose but I am eating healthy so its not like I am dieting as such just eating as I would normally, but my weight loss has slowed down dramatically and i'm only losing about a 1-2lb a week now. at least now I know if it doesn't happen for us naturally the fertility specialist would help us. Previously when I seen her my BMI was 51 and she told me I had to get my BMI below 30 or she couldn't help and I am now sitting with a BMI of 28 so I've done what was asked of me so that lifts a bit of pressure off me knowing I could get help now if I needed it. I really hope I don't gain too much weight during pregnancy though as I am determined to be able to lose it all afterwards, I want skin removal and mst have a BMI below 30 to be able to get that so must make sure any baby weight isn't too extreme so I can get it back off. Only gained a stone with my DS so I don't see why weight gain has to be extreme, just have to keep my sweet tooth in check lol.

I'm sure the weight loss will help tremendously. Will you plan on charting/temping to see if you get regular cycles and ovulate on your own?
Good luck ttc.
