Welcome to 'Trying To Conceive Over 35'

:hi: Everyone! I hope y'all are having a fantastic day!!

Ali...I'm thinking about you and praying for you. :hugs:

Jess, I hope you are having an awesome day! I can't wait for things to come to fruition! I have a feeling the next 5 days are doing to be a little hairy :happydance: Means that things will go quickly!

Hi ladies, just popping on here again real quick. Today is nice and cool, I think I'll try to finish the garage...Finish.... That is such an AWESOME word yet seems soooo unnattainable  We'll see :bodyb: lol

Oh, and I joked with dh that our 2nd dd was delayed (3 weeks past edd) because of the stress of my job and all the stuff that went on with getting fired over being pregnant. Now, here I am 35 weeks prego and it's all coming up again! Now we're talking trial dates and I feel my stress level going up  Damn! Another late one? I fervently hope not!!

Tiatammy,
Good luck with your clomid.... I was on for one round and got pregnant- but I was SO moody.... I didn't like how it made me feel.... I was uncomfortable in my skin.... but we kept saying that if it helped it would be worth it.... Its definitely worth trying! and it worked for me..... so it is possible for it to work in one cycle....
all the best....
phil.

Philomena thanks, I hope it happens, what cd did you take the clomid?

Hi Tiatammy,
I think I took it from cd5-9, but I can't say for absolute certainty.... that was 6 months ago!!

How long were your cycles? I have a 26 day cycles. and did you use opks with the clomid? and what was your bedding times? I mean like did you bed before your positive opk and after? I hope you dont mind me asking, I just really want it to work.

I don't mind the questions at all! that's what we are here for- to help and support each other through these journeys!
I did use OPK's.... I actually went a little OPK crazy and did the line ones AND the happy face ones. The day I surged, both my face ones caught it but not all of the line ones caught it.
Previous to my last cycle we were diagnosed with unexplained infertility- so we had done all the tests, and they didn't know "why" we weren't getting pregnant. My cycles were 26 days, my hormone levels seemed to be fine, my tubes were open (well, one for sure, the other probably) and DH's sperm was 'RockStar'.... so why weren't we getting preggers? Nobody could tell us. So we opted for IUI since I was 40 then (I'm 41 now)....
I did the clomid to help our chances, and OD'd on the OPK's because I didn't want to miss the surge. I started to really surge around 11am and I was so happy to see the happy face, I can't even tell you.... no lines to interpret, it was so easy! I called the dr's office and we were in the next day.... DH had his appt in the morning... then they do a 'scrub and shine' on the swimmers and I went in the afternoon for the IUI..... So essentially, I got the surge and the next day the swimmer's were put in..... we didn't bd before or after because of DH's work schedule, but, for us, it didn't seem to matter.
I know OPK's can be expensive, but I decided that missing the surge wasn't an option and from my experience, I can say that the cheaper ones are not always accurate at registering the opk.... the happy face ones are my favourite and I would use them again in a heartbeat.... it's worth the extra money, IMHO....

Sometimes I feel I missed out a little bit, because I never got any of the scans to determine follicles or how they were doing.... I guess my fertility clinic just doesn't do that for basic IUI..... ? But otherwise, it was straightforward and relatively stress free.....
hope that helps!!

That helped a whole lot, I am 41 now too, so I do hope this will help me, That is great that you were a 26 day cycle too, did you ovulate later or sooner on the clomid? doc says to start opks on cd13 beings I am on clomid cd 5-9 and should ovulate cd17. Did you see a temp change being on the clomid?

I wasn't temping on that cycle, but I did decide on my own to start watching the opk's from cd10 or 11-ish.... mostly because I think I used to ovulate around CD10 on my own.... the cycle with the clomid, I ovulated exactly on CD14 and I got my first, very faint, positive for a BFP on 9 DPIUI..... ( I started POAS at 7 DPIUI)
I know it's all expensive to use so many of the sticks... but I couldn't help it... I really wanted it to work and I wanted to be right on top of everything! It was a pain to POAS so many times, but honestly, I think I would do it the same again, because I did not want to miss the surge, and I did not want to miss the bfp....

That is how it is with me when I do ovulate it was anywhere between cd 10 to 12, doc said that my temp chart was showing some months with not so strong ovulation to no ovulation, but when I did it was cd 10,11,or 12, but he wants me to opk starting on cd 13, do you think I should start cd 10 just to be sure I dont miss it?

I would!!!

Ali- try not to stress, just do what you're told by your doctor! :growlmad: lol, just think- by Tuesday you'll be twiddling your thumbups with nothing to do, nowhere to go, no doctor to see YET! :haha: You'll have to relax and take it easy- let's hope you can manage REST lady! :hugs: :)

I've been sitting on my backside all day.... avoiding the massive reorganization of my pantry.... there's something off in there.... smells terrible.... like a potato got dropped and is putrefying in a corner or under something..... yuck!! I've been so lazy today!!! I just DON'T want to deal with it right now.... so I've had a bowl of Breyer's Dark Cherry Vanilla ice cream and I've been lurking on here all day..... *sigh*..... I guess I should either have a nap or actually tackle some of these chores!!!

Hi Angel,

Welcome back! I'm so sorry about the MC :( I see from your post that you are being treated for Hughes Syndrome? What is that? Is it the reason you have been having troubles? What did the RMC DR say? Forgive me if you already posted about that, as I've been skimming and not reading EVERYTHING that has happened the last few days. As I'm sure you can see I've been through he ringer lately
I am happy to see you here though, and I really do hope you are doing OK.

Hey Ali, I am doing surprisingly ok, really, thanks for asking. Plus my lady you are going through the mill at the moment too so don't you be worrying about me :winkwink::flower:.

Basically I went to the haemotologist on Monday to start my clexane injections and she said I have a-typical symptoms of Hughes Syndrome, which basically means once I get pregnant my blood clots so the fetus dies as it cant get nourished/oxygen etc:cry:. The thing was I already had the sinking feeling I had lost this one as my symtoms disappeared the week before but was praying it was just my imagination. Anyway, i had actually just started staining prior to my appointment and it developed....

Even if I had been there two weeks before I dont think it would have made any difference, things were measuring so small last week it seems like a natural loss and not linked to my condition, if that madness makes any sense. The only thing I have noted is my MCs are happening earlier, it may not be a link to anything but a theory is that your body can start to think the fetus is a foreign body so rejects it, this may be happening as the MCs are occuring earlier. That is, because my body now recognises the symtoms it knows to attack it earlier. It's just a theory banging about and I think it may be treated with steroids. I go back to gynae on the 20th to talk about options, possible causes and despite everything after 6 losses I am fairly positive about our chances. This was the first time we had any medical intervention and it was late so hopefully by having some more advice, tests to see what is happening and meds if poss for next time we may get lucky.

I was all set for getting bang stuck into things (excuse the pun:haha:) but I get the feeling on the 20th they will want to do a few more tests so I'm praying they wont want me to wait long. I had a 4 month break after my last MC and in my opinion it didnt make a blind bit of difference:growlmad::cry:

Ali, take her easy over the next few days, I have been reading and keeping up. These processes and hormones can do funny things, my best advice is to take rescue remedy, breathe and just remember this madness is temporary :hugs::hugs:.

Plus I am excited for you, and jealous of the medical attention you are getting lol. What a lucky woman you are. And feck it I know you are paying for it, but it is worth it isnt it? :winkwink:

Phil- LOL! You sound just liek me! I have soooo much to do and I have been "lurking here" as you say, trying to put it off. I did go move the car back so that I have more room in the driveway to work. d's and dh all have sore throats today  Not sure why, maybe because we left fans blowing in all the bedrooms last night? Snoring maybe? I am not sure. Other than my characteristic tiredness I feel okay

Anywhoo...it is probably a potato! They are famous for that! :growlmad: I cannot count how many times that has happened to me :haha: Def try to find it, then relax! Love your idea about the ice cream! I've never tried the brand you mentioned, sounds awesome!

Angel, even though this is sad news I am glad that the problem is being identified so that you can combat it now! In fact, I watched a lady on television about a week ago that went through this same very issue and had to get treatment for it - now that she is being treated she has had a baby girl so I know that it CAN be treated! I am glad you are tackling this head-on and taking well enough. I wonder if something similar hapened with my last mc...I bot my bfp but after a few weeks I noticed my belly button stud started to escape- the skin started to thin out and the bar actually fell out! I called a piercing specialist and he said the only time this happens is when your immune system surges and your body rejects it- treats it like a foreign object. I mc'd a few short weeks after that. So I am wondering? I know mc's are hard but I tried so hard to "get onward" iykwim? I understand grieving but I didn't want to stay there so I tried do what you are doing and move forward with a plan. I know you will have that :baby: soon! Did you get any specifics for treatment?

Looks like I'm going to get OHSS  I already have the symptoms. I got home and was wondering why my ankles were feeling funny, so I looked down at them and OMG they are HUGE! I barely even have ankles at all, I'm so bloated. Plus I'm lying here and I'm finding it difficult to breath.
I'm supposed to trigger tonight, but I have heard that people aren't supposed to get OHSS untill AFTER they do the trigger. So how do I have symptoms now? IDK. From what I have read its the trigger (hCG) that sets OHSS up to occur. I have heard that using lupron can be a better option. The thing is that they want me to trigger tonight, and so now I'm all worried.

Ali- I am glad that you are keeping an eye on this. Are you supposed to go to the hospital for the trigger or do you administer that yourself? I found something on line about some patients have to go to hospital for IV treatment, etc, and to get assistance in relieveing some of the fluid retention. I would call in to double check just to make sure. What are your options at this point? Have you discussed it with your doctor?

"Patients with severe OHSS are best managed in the hospital, where they can receive intravenous resuscitation and the fluid can be removed via paracentesis. Occasionally, the fluid around the lungs may need to be removed if the woman is suffering from respiratory difficulties. However, most of the respiratory complaints associated with OHSS result from the inability of the diaphragm to move appropriately given the marked amount of fluid present within the abdomen."

I'm pretty sure that I read that article too! So I've been reading some other things, and I think I just need to drink lots of gatorade and protein drinks. Apparently protein strengthens the cell walls and that will lessen the ability of liquid to leak from cells. The gatorade or pedialyte helps to add the needed electrolyes in to the body that will improve the urine output and help get the excess fluids out. So I'm pounding the gatorade right now, and will have protein for dinner. I think I may have exacerbated the issue earlier by having sushi for lunch, yes it is packed with protein but the salt in the soy sauce probably made me more bloated than usual. Which is probably why I feel as horrible as I do right now. So more gatorade for me! Then sleep! And trigger in an hour and a 1/2.

Oh, it's been an hour and half--did you trigger yet? I take it you trigger at home?

AFM- aw, dh and dd's have sore throats today. no bumps on their throats though so we have attributed it to dh and dd's playing outside in the strong (very strong) cold wind for several hours yesterday morning. Dh took a kite out for the girls and they played for a long time. I am the only one w/o the throat and I had to spend the day inside doing my asignment :growlmad: Anyway, made chicken noodle soup for dh and my Irish potato soup for the dd's...Very simple recipe but they love it and eat until they can't move :haha: Just boil your water, add one package of Lipton Onion Soup, a ton of chopped white potatoes, then when it's about done add a huge chunk of chopped up ham. Boil the soup a minute or two til ham is done then I add a can of condensed milk and turn the heat off. For some reason my finicky eaters love it

Me: my belly feels immense and the muscles are stretching beyond belief! I get the BH contractions quite often, just feels like a million crunches at once. I did start to work on the garage....I opened the garage door, pulled the car out of the way. Then, hours later, I closed the door and pulled the car back up. :haha: I consider it practice for tomrrow  Now I am going to work on school, take a shower, and go to bed (or eat ice cream :shhh:)

Oh, it's been an hour and half--did you trigger yet? I take it you trigger at home?

Yep! Trigger is done. Now we wait for Friday morning. I hope that I feel better after all the Gatorade! I think it seems to be working, either that or keeping my feet elevated has helped. I plan on sleeping with a pillow under my feet, lol.

So I hope your DH and DDs feel better, no fun having sore throats! I wonder if it could be from allergies? Maybe something was being blown around in the air yesterday? Or could they have picked something up at the ER? I find that being where sick people are often makes me sick! I bet the soup helped soothe their throats, and that is an interesting recipe for potato soup! Sounds pretty easy!

I must say you made me  with your comment about your practice run for tomorrow :haha: Too funny.

I'm off to bed, I hope your BH die down and your DD doesn't wake you up tonight.

Thanks Ali! Kat's (my youngest) sore throat is apparently gone  from what she tells me. She says the soup cured it  but now her nose is all stuff- makes me think you are right about the allergies. That is exactly what dh said too. So I gave her Benadryl and put the girls to bed.

Yes, gatorade will help, and I bet the salt sushi sauce exacerbated things....And propping up even when you sleep will help tons too. No worries! But if it is worse in morning maybe call your doc? So Friday is (ER) retrieval, right? :happydance: Day after tomorrow- not long ata ll! Did you get the day off? Can you call a cab?

I am just finishing up my school, then I hope to catch a shower (I may wait, I'm exhausted!) then go to bed :hugs:

Good luck with your ER, Ali! How many big follicles do you have?

Sorry I've been MIA. I've been battling another UTI (4th one in 5 months). I tried to use a homeopathic remedy (D-Mannose), but it didn't work. So, I'm now lying in bed, trying to figure out if I should miss work to go to my regular doctor or make it through the next 12 hours and go to a clinic after work instead.

Hi Ladies! :hi:
Wow, this thread has been busy!

Ali - I remember when I was going through fertility treatments I couldn't wear regular pants either, so I went and bought a pair of maternity jeans on faith that I would need them soon. They were the only pants that fit comfortably, and as it happened, I did need them after that very cycle. Praying for you. :hugs:

Coy - I hope you are getting some rest at night. Is your dd starting to sleep on her own through the night?

AFM - I am kind of enjoying the thought of NTNP for a few months. But I think NTNP is good as my washer is still broken and I'm still hand washing everything :hangwashing: . Don't have a lot of time right now to be timing everything just right IYKWIM. Don't know what I will do if it is still broken when cold weather hits. Don't really have anywhere in the house to hang clothes to dry until the excess moisture drips out. Praying that I'll have a working washer by then.

Hope you ladies have a great day!

Hey! Long time no see! I'm worried about your UTIs. I am wondering if it isn't a UTI at all? Or perhaps it is caused by this stuff that doesn't show up on a regular urine culture? My FS had me do a special test as part of my routine IVF workup and tested me for Myco/Urea Plasia. It is a really tiny microorganism that often lives in male prostates (and causes no issue), but when a woman gets it, it can cause UTI like symptoms, PID and even miscarriage. That is why he tested me for it. Turns out that I did have it, and so now I'm on a 14 day course of doxycycline. I would ask your Dr if that could be what is causing it? If so you and your DH will have to go on the same treatment plan to get it resolved.

AFM - I had 33 follicles that they counted at my scan yesterday, and my estrogen was 5133! YIKES! They said that I was basically going to get some form of OHSS, and to bear with it until the retrieval and that they medicine they would give me during the retrieval (albumin) would rectify the issue (or at least make it a lot less severe). I was extremely bloated yesterday, I weighed myself last night and I was a total of 10 lbs heavier than I was when I got home from Canada, and I have a scale that measures your water % and my water % was 5-6% higher than it should be, and that normally is, meaning I have 8 lbs of water weight! It was slightly better this morning, only about 6 lbs of water weight than normal. Thing is that after I O is when I usually start bloating in advance of AF, which usually adds about 3-4 lbs of weight on my body, and then once AF appears it goes away. So you can just imagine how I am going to feel if I get that additional 3-4 lbs! Hopefully the albumin will fix all of that and I'll be good to go!
So tomorrow morning is the big day! My friend is going to come stay tonight and take me to the procedure. He is the one that is diabetic, but he said that he has managed to get his blood sugar down to 200, so its not at a critical level that I should be too worried about him not being able to drive me. Plus I can drive us there, he'll just have to do the drive back.

Coy - how was DD last night? Did she sleep? I bet the benadryl helped to knock her out :happydance:

Thanks, Ali. I'm seeing the doc this afternoon and I will ask about Myco/Urea Plasia. I'm 6dpo and very hopeful about this month because I had 6 days of EWCM, when I normally have zero. I credit the EPO.

As for you, 33 follicles is amazing! That's like what a 29 yr old egg donor would get. I hope you get lots of healthy, mature eggs and then a healthy baby!
