Welcome to 'Trying To Conceive Over 35'

Hi ladies and welcome Lucaswood, you're in good company here and will get loads of support. I'm 38 and a long history short I had 3MCs then my DS in November 2010, and then another 3MCs, all this year and the latest one was only last week:cry:. As we're all in the 35+ bracket it is bringing with it the added difficulties and complications and I am currently getting investigated AGAIN, which you can read about below. Looking forward to getting to know you :flower:

Twotogo... glad to hear you are doing better this morning

Coy... what a gorgeous baby bump, I'm so green lol and wish it was me. You are looking fab honey and all this activity will mean you are so fit for labout, it'll be a breeze :winkwink:

Jess... how's the training going?

Babywhisperer and Terri... how are you ladies? Babywhisperer I read a post earlier but cant remember it and I was going to comment :dohh:. I'll look back this evening when I've got time to read properly:thumbup:.

Sorry to anybody I've missed, I'm still in work so it's a quick catch up for now.

Happy Friday Everyone! :happydance:

Angel - any more news from your DR? How are you doing? Big hug

Now Ali, I really couldn't forget about you :winkwink::hugs:. I've been avidly reading snippets when I can this week to keep up with your progress. I'm glad things went well and sorry you probably have already posted this, but what happened the other eggs that they can't freeze them? I'll read back later this evening (GMT:winkwink:). I hope you are taking it easy my lady? Can't wait till next week when you test, this surely has to be your BFP!!!!

Well, here is my novel from my appointment at RMC yesterday. A mixed bag to be honest...

Upon arriving at 08.35 yesterday morning and making small chat to the nurse she showed me into a room with what looked like a bed and scanner etc. I didnt realise the senior consultant was already in there and I panicked and said that there was no point scanning me as I had another MC last week. She was very apologetic and introduced me to Dr Hunter (the highly recommended RMC I was meant to see a fortnight ago).

Well basically I got a gruntled hello and that was it. No sorry to hear that, no how are you, no are you still bleeding, any fever etc looking for signs of retained products. Nothing. So that got my back up a bit already:growlmad:

He went through my basic history, how many MCs, age and sex of my only child. In fairness as this is a new hospital I am under they do not have my years of notes from my 15+ years of gynae problems and procedures but he didnt even seem interested in obtaining them.

Long story short after a somewhat strained 20 minute meeting:

  • Metformin for PCOS - NO, not thought necessary as I can conceive :nope: (but it is meant to help prevent MCs for those with PCOS as well so I'm pissed at this comment)
  • NK Cell testing - I asked his opinion and if he thought it would be necessary/useful. He banged on about different schools of thought and Prof Quenby in England etc and that if I wanted to look into it Google it. They could do the procedure at the Royal and then send the biopsy to Prof Quenby or I can organise a private consultation with Prof Quenby. Either way it's up to me to look into it and decide what to do :growlmad::shrug:. He didnt mention if the procedure could be done under the NHS and then a small fee to Quenby or a full private fee
  • Progesterone - slight possibility of putting it in protocol as I'm in the 35+ bracket. I told him I knew the research :muaha:
  • Ages - he sighed and commented 'getting old' when I told him my DH's age which is 43 :saywhat::growlmad:. He then mentioned the current trial going on (name I cant remember) researching sperm quality and age and to look into it and decide if we want to try it:growlmad:. Like HELLO, how is this helping??? Give me the contact details at least:growlmad::hissy:
The better news;
  • We (DH and I) are at last getting chromosome testing done next week at consultants request, which my GP (female) has helped me sort as DH is in a different practice to mine.
  • Consultant wants to do a hysteroscopy which I dont think I've ever had done to check the shape of my womb etc. I have had a laparoscomy so I thought that information could have been confirmed then? I can only remember from that I have an introverted uterus and hostile womb, i dont remember anything being mentioned about abnormalities with the shape etc. Can your womb shape change as that was done about 10 years ago?
  • I had to choose to be in the 'pool of consultants in the Royal' or be dedicated to Dr Hunter. In my madness I have chosen to stay with Dr Hunter as he is meant to be the best here, was highly recommended by my GP and to be honest I am tired of having no consistency as I have to repeat my history at every appointment to a different consultant, who again may have a different view of treatment. The downside is his waiting list is a bit longer, it may take about 2 months to get the hysteroscomy but he said at that appointment we will discuss and decide a plan of care. So I am going to have to just be patient and WTT for a couple of months . It makes sense we all know but yeah is pants :haha::growlmad:.
Dr Hunter's protocol appears to be aspirin, high dose folic acid, claxane from BFP, and possibly progesterone which I will push for as I am in the bloody over 35+ bracket. He does have about an 80% success rate so I just have to keep reminding myself of this:wacko:. I'll look into the metformin more, perhaps my GP will give it to me or send me to endo.

I also took the bull by the horns at lunchtime and rang Dr Quenby's office at Coventry to get some advice. The secretary was a little bemused after I explained the outline I had been given regarding the NK Cell testing but we came to the conclusion Prof Quenby and Dr Hunter must have done this in the past so the secretary is going to talk to Prof Quneby about the 2 options (procedure at Royal or private consultation) and she will get back to me. I also fly frequently to Birmingham with work for meetings so I'm going to say if it is better to just get the testing done there we will try to schedule it in over the next couple of months . It'll cost £360 though to get it done private and with my DH on a 3-day week this may be an issue but I'll cross that bridge if we come to it (the joy of credit cards:winkwink::haha:)

So phew, after that ramble I'm not really any further forward, a bit pissed but also trying to be positive that things are happening a bit and hopefully I'll get a care plan in place before the end of the year.

But if I am being open, I really do have this niggly feeling that the powers that be are trying to tell me something, hurdle after hurdle, is it ever going to end? Maybe I should just be realistic and be thankful I have one DS and give up on all this...

No, no, no don't give up! The world needs babies raised by wonderful people! I hope you get to the bottom of it. I feel like getting the NK procedure will eliminate any doubt along w/ the protocol of progesterone....attack every possibility for the mc's and def be an advocate for yourself. It's sad that it has come to this, but we all have to be super informed and research everything and challenge these doctors. An opinion is exactly that, put 10 drs in a room and you might just get 10 different opinions. Stay the course, it will lead to what you want. :hugs:

WELL PUT!!

:hi: everyone! Wow! there is just too much to catch up on!

Between work, training for this show and writing my paper, I have very little time. I think my trainer and my BF are realizing I might be a little overloaded. They had a talk with me yesterday to "prepare" me for the posibility that I might not compete in October. :saywhat:

After they explained their reasoning (apparently they had this discussion together prior to talking to me) I guess I understood. My thesis is MUCH MUCH more important than competing. AND my health is even more important. So, my trainer added some calories back in my diet and said we would continue to train as if we were going to do the show, but will ultimately determine if I am actually going to do it in about 2 weeks.

To tell you the truth, I'm not feeling it.

As for TTC, I am in my TWW. BD'ing and ovulation timed perfectly this month, so, we shall see.

Ali...maybe we will both get a BFP in a week or so!! That would be so cool to go through a pregnancy with someone else like that!!

Well, I am off to the gym, then my nephew's football game, then back home to either sleep or work on my paper somemore. TTYL!:hugs:

Only you can truly know what is best for you and your body. I would take a few days and listen to it. Decide whether you can make the run to the competition or not. If so, then you will commit to it 110%, and if not, then you can back off and focus on your thesis and TTC, and other things.

I just looked at your chart, and we are 1 day apart! HEHE.. so funny how when we first met we had the same cycle, and now 3-4 months later they are back to being the same. :haha: I'm 7dpo and you are 6dpo. I would most certainly LOVE to share my pregnancy with you! That would be so totally awesome! :happydance:

Hi ladies!

Jess- wow, I think your BF is sneaking aorund behind you in hopes to get you on the preggo train! :haha: In general I think it is good if you want to compete to do so, but if you're not feeling it then I say- relax! Og my gosh you timed things perfectly this month so we could see a bfp soon :happydance: Yay! I am used to you saying things like "I didn't temp today" and "I forgot to opk" lol to see you say "I timed perfectly" Yay! I can't wait!

Ali- yep, no chocolate either :nope: Cafeine is actually quite high in chocolate, especially the good stuff :haha: And yeah, you don't really feel anything this early...at least I never did but there are women who feel implantation...maybe I just didn't ay close enough attention...Oh, re: the painting. This is sort of a fumeless paint, very very mild, plus it was just the doors and I left the big window open and fans on. I am done now :) Now on to getting my room cleaned up a bit

Hi ladies :hi: Well, dh and the girls and I went to our appointment...I actually got a call just as we were getting set to leave. The receptionist tells me "Well, we accidentally booked you twice, once for today and once for Monday. Since we're so busy today I am going to cancel your appointment and have you come in next week."
:saywhat: 'Scuse me bee-otch, but I don't think so! :growlmad: I want to know what's going on with my body and my baby! I am coming in today! LOL! So she had to grudglingly allow me to come in anyway. Anywhoo my doc was glad- I am measuring at 35 cm now which is a growth spurt as I had sort of stalled at 33 last week and a half ao  And my weight is at 145 :shhh: so I am a proper fatty now :haha: (in my mind anyway). And he did the cervical exam and I was worried about it, right? Well, he is so much better at it than my MW was! She used the duckbill thing and was really rough and used to prod really hard...Not this guy, he was very careful and no duckbill Phew! Maybe because dh was in the room? At any rate just took a few seconds and we were done. On to the GOOD NEWS. :haha: Doc was shocked when he felt as he said my cervix is already extremely low-lower than he expected- and I am 2 cm dialated and effaced 75%!!! Yay! :happydance: He said she could be born literally any time now. So then he was irritated at his staff for scheduling me 2 weeks out and he forced them to change it to next week :smug: and made the comment "Try to make it another week" in regard to going into labor. Last time I was told that babes was born 2 days later :haha: We will see!

So I finished up painting the doors on the girls room, now on to the hallway closet an bathroom doors too--crayon seems to have made the rounds  lol. Then I will clean up my room in prparation and focus on my final assignment. Come Monday I get a week off and if babes is born I can request another week

Hey!

So I have a strange symptom to discuss.. I've been sweltering hot for the past week since I started taking the progesterone. I even has to turn my AC down to 74 degrees to keep myself from sweating and feeling flushed. Well about 1/2 way through the day today I was literally freezing. So bad that I grabbed my sweatshirt and wore it for the rest of the day. I've since raised my AC up to 78 and I'm still frozen! I have an extra blanket and fleece socks on! What is going on? I live in Florida! It was 90 degrees outside today! I don't feel sick at all, at least not a head or chest cold and I just took my temp and its perfectly normal at 98.72 (well a tiny bit high but not too bad). So what gives?

Hmmm...I remember after getting my bfp that I would experience hot and cold flashes. That could be it but I don't remember what dpo that was. And my chart got wiped with the rest of my computer :sad2: lol! You may call your doc and ask about it but personally I think it is all of the extra hormones  As long as you ddon't feel sick and oyu're not running a temperature you should be okay- probably just hormone surges  Oh and re: the sore ass you mentioned :haha: Poor Ali! Can you give the injection elsewhere? Is it intramuscular? If so, try your upper thigh area...dh gave himself a shot in the hip the other night (on the side) and is still bothered by the sore spot...next time maybe try the thigh or butt cheek...that way you can lay on your side, just not sit down :(

AFM- Ok, mission accomplished! I have gone and bought huge maternity pads  and they were on sale for like 2 dollars! Then I went and got the black granny panties :haha: So I think we are all set now. I have packed an older glucometer for dh's blood sugar montioring, all he has to do is remember to grab a quick pen on the way out the door when it's time. And I am about finished with our room, so babes bed is all set. Ah. Feels nice to be ready :haha:

Got my painting all finished up, dinner is cooked (chinese fried rice- super simple, cook your white rice ahead of time, saute green onions and a ham steak all chopped up. Then add the rice (probably about 4-5 cups of it) then toss in a bagged of prepared microwaveable steamed peas, a few TBS of soy sauce and some seasoning...usually fried rice season but stir fry seasoning will work too...anywhoo, then you can add scrambled eggs if you want but I usually skip that part.

I am eyeing the cookies and milk though.......

The dd's are getting excited for babes to be born....especially T as she is a bit older and understands a bit more than Kat does. In fact, somehow she got hold of one of my L & D books :dohh: so understands a BIT MORE than I would have liked LOL! Tonight I had to explain more to her.....when Kat was born T was 4.5 years old so was satisfied with the explantation "a door opens and baby comes out". Not any more :nope: Nope, I had to explain what a cervix and vagina is :dohh: LOL! Oh well, that's what I get for having inquisitive and intelligent daughters!

Ali- I am sorry I forgot about the name! :dohh: We have settled upon Aeryn Alexa...the first name is Hebrew and means mountain of strength and the second is Greek and means defender of men. So a very strong name yet sounds feminnie too. :) I love the name Catherine Paige! I have always especially liked the name Paige....and Joanna (sp) is a very strong name for a girl too....as far as boy names? That's a tuffy! Hm....are you shooting for a specific ancestry? I know you are from Canada so would there possibly be a French something-or-other in there to include? Hmm...I'll have to mull some around! A friend of mine and my step-daughter named sons "Xander" which I think is a very tough and masculine name....John is a very common but stalwart and steady name...if you want something very unique though gotta spend some time :haha:

How are you feeling tonight? I hope you are getting plenty of rest  When does the official bedrest end? I am glad you have the weekend off!

Man, I think I would smack the admin staff at your OBGYN! You can't postpone those appts! Not at this late stage. GEESH! Now that you've seen the Dr, he basically said you could have your baby anytime now, ie. before Monday, LOL! So you definitely needed to know that before Monday.
I'm glad you have gotten everything done and are now ready for babes to arrive, YAY!

OH yes! I like that name! Aeryn Alexa is beautiful, Alexa is a short form of my name, Alexandra, and it does indeed mean helper of mankind!

I'm really struggling with boy names, I like Cameron, and Liam, but it seems like all the names I like are names that are really popular right now, and I don't want to have a name that is too popular, I want it to be somewhat unique, but not too out there like Eugene, or Bartholomew! LMAO!

I went to bed really early last night, but of course woke up really early. My body is having troubles regulating itself temperature wise. I'm either freezing cold or boiling hot! I read something about women feeling so cold as one of their first pregnancy symptoms. It stems from the drop in iron as the baby starts latching on. So my freezing yesterday could have been the beginning of the baby starting to latch on. I guess we will just have to see!

...Awww......:sadangel:...where is everyone?.....:sad2:

Morning sunshine! Sounds like you have gotten everything done just in the nick of time! I bet you go sometime next week, maybe the 30th. How tall are you? Your weight fully prego is amazing! How are you feeling?

Jess - listen to your body, Ali is right. Don't just go thru the motions, focus on what needs your immediate attention, health and school. Competing will always be there and don't beat yourself up, something has to give with a schedule like yours, and your bf and trainer don't want the thing that suffers to be you. FX'd that you get your bfp. Happy you're timing it right, I'll be right behind ya!

Ali - how's the weather? :haha: You still have wild temp swings? Sounds like hormones to me. I bet that is a bfp in the making! I hope you're still taking it easy.

AFM, I was feeling like I was coming down w/ the flu Thurs night & yesterday, but it turned out to be this 24 hr bug where you feel on the edge of the flu, and the next day fine. Well yesterday my temp was 97.53 at 6am and this morning 98.32 at 8am, no smiley on the opk last night, but this morning there it was! Woohoo so today, tomorrow and Monday will be :sex: time. We didn't bd last night when FF said we should have b/c I was feeling sick and passed out early, but hoping the next 3 days will make up for it. I went for my 4th acupuncture this morning at 8:30 and it felt great. I relaxed, and she even treated the scar tissue and tight tendons in my foot where I had surgery in April. She said my liver is looking better, but the tip of my tongue is still red. My pulse is getting stronger too which is a great sign as it was very weak when I started. Thinking today is going to be another day of biking, just trying to decide if it will be hilly/dirt trails or long paved paths.

How is everyone else?? Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

...Awww......:sadangel:...where is everyone?.....:sad2:

Hey!

Weather is miserable, it is pouring rain here. I mean pouring! And to top it all off I'm on call (forgot about that) and guess what, DB is down! YAY! So now I'm on a conference call to get the DB back up and ensure all the necessary services are back running as they should be. I don't have to do anything to get the DB back up, I just need to be available to clean up the mess once it is back. :growlmad:
I was lying in bed, enjoying a rainy stay in bed day, when my phone just started going crazy. That only happens when something BAD is happening with work. Normally I can ignore it but since I'm on call I can't just ignore :ignore:
Oh well, hopefully it won't be out too long and I can get back to me very important implantation napping! :haha: I watched a movie this morning it was called Friends with Kids. It was really cute! I also watched the movie, What to expect when you are expecting too. It was funny. Wow, all these baby movies! TEEHEE :haha:
As for how I'm feeling, I have some heart burn, cramping and lower back pain, a stuffy nose, a slight headache and hot/cold flashes.

Ali...FF changed my ovulation date... which means I missed this month...Boooooo!!!
Could FF be wrong? EWCM happened on and around CD12...

Ooooh, Ali--stuffy nose? Hot and cold flashes? Headache? I had all of those symptoms with early pregnancy! :happydance: Who is to say when they start as far as dpo as every woman is different. Got my fx'd for you lady!

Yuk on being on call, but that beats having to drive to work in the rain! Stay under your covers if you can. I saw the movie "What To Excpect When You're Expecting" for sale and wondered about it...maybe I'll rent it :haha:

HMM.. I think FF is messed up! Have you ever O'd that late? Seems to me like you did everything perfectly, and FF is just high on crack! :haha:

Don't stress, I can see why it might think you O'd on CD 16 vs earlier, but to O that late would mean that you won't get your period until CD30, and you don't normally have cycles that long do you? I think you just need to watch it, and see how it unfolds

So I can't decide, should I shower and brave the outdoors? Or stay in and watch another movie. HMM.
It has stopped raining and I have $20 kohls cash burning a hole in my pocket. But I am on call and if I leave I will have to answer my phone in public and its on its last legs, I can barely used it sufficiently as a phone now. I really do have to go out and get a few things: baby aspirin (I'm out), tylenol since I can only take it for my headaches, etc, and I want some tea (caffeine free). I haven't had any tea in over a week and I'm totally jonesing! :haha: HMM.. and maybe something sweet? I was thinking I could make blondies? They are just like brownines but well blonde! No chocolate in them.
OK that settles it. I'm going to jump in the shower and run (speed of light) to the grocery store, get the necessities and save the kohls cash until tomorrow when I can go shopping at my leisure. WOOHOO :wohoo: I have a plan!
