Welcome to 'Trying To Conceive Over 35'

Hello ladies.

Hope everyone is having a nice Sunday :)

Samsfan caffeine is bad when ttcing so you should also cut out soft drinks as well as coffee. I havent had coffee in about 5 years and soda in about 2 years. I love the taste of rootbeer so that is the only thing I miss. I was never a fan of soda.

Coy that is so true! Dr Oz also says that you should have one "cheat" day a week where you can eat things you like. Chicken is the best meat you can eat. A midwife/nutritionist told me not to listen to doctors who say not to eat fish more than 3 times a week. As long as they are fish low in mercury it is safe to eat daily if you like it. The huge fish are the ones that have high levels of mercury but when I go to Barbados I eat a different fish every day. There is a fish market near my parents house. I love it!

Grey eyes- You are so on the money with this stuff. I'm going to take your advice. When I'm stressed or hungry I'll start with a bit of protein or dark chocolate, then workout! I'm in the legal field. (not fun)

Why don't you drink coffee when ttc?

You do motivate me... so I'm so glad to be part of this forum!

There was a study at University of Nevada that proved caffeine had a paralyzing affect upon fallopian tubes. When the egg is released and fertilized it is encouraged through the fallopian tubes into the uterus. This "encouragement" is the fallopian tubes flexing or rythmically squeezing the egg up through the tube. Caffeine freezes or inhibits that action :sad2: preventing the egg from achieving its ultimate destination for implantation. The egg then dies and is flushed...or worse it implants in the tube 8-[

Eeeee I hate fish  lol! I grew up in Alaska and we had a salmon "fish camp" where we caught and processed literally hundreds of salmon a day.....thus mother cooked salmon for dinner every night  lol! I used to like greyling and pike tho...I like cod and shrimp but haven't had it in years 8-[

Root beer doesn't have caffeine; is it the sugar you are avoiding? Is that for conception or just diet? I did not know about caffeine and ttc, nor did I know tampons are bad! I am not quite sure I am willing to use pads. Eeek.

Is Barbados tropical?

Barbados is beautiful! I remember it from when I was 10. It was warm, but there was always a sea breeze, there were parts of the island that were tropical, and others that were farms of sugar cane, then there are some more mountainous areas, and there are even caves there. It is a wonderful place! I remember going with my grandmother and mom to the fish markets and seeing so many different fish! I ate plenty of different things when I was there. Course I was just a kid, and was only there for a few weeks. The island and its beauty have stayed with me for 30 years! I  Barbados!

I would eat fish more if I had better recipes, I just don't know how to cook fish all that well? I had a great way of cooking Chilean Sea Bass, but now it is really hard to find? I kind of got sick of Salmon, and haven't had it in ages. I also enjoy Sole, but it is hard to find in Florida (it is more of a Canadian thing). So Chantal, if you have some suggestions for fish and how to cook them, I'm all ears! I particularly like the mild fish (ones that don't smell or taste too fishy) and are more buttery then flaky. That is why I loved Chilean Sea Bass, and Sole, they are more soft and not flaky. Oh and I hate bones! So that is an issue for me too. Any thoughts?

My doctor put me on Clomid, 50mg, because I was not ovulating. I have ovulated both months on the Clomid, but because I have not gotten pregnant, the doctor wants me to increase the dose to 100mg. If I am ovulating, what is the benefit of a higher dose? According to my research, the only possible benefit I have read about is multiple eggs. Thanks for the help ladies.

Coy, the legal field is not what it used to be. The average lawyer has student loans they will be paying off until they retire, and many lawyers are unemployed. The ones who are employed make very little. People think lawyers are well paid, but that is no longer true. If you are interested in the criminal justice field, I would recommend a forensics-type course (such as becoming a blood spatter expert) or really anything but law school. It is a great field if you just really love the law and want to learn more about it but don't have any expectations of making decent money. Unfortunately, the legal field is just flooded. That said, if you want to do it, I salute you! Oh, I should mention that even being charged with a crime can make it very hard to become bar certified. Different states have different standards; it is just something you should be aware of- hopefully it won't be any sort of issue for you. (I don't know what your situation is; I have just read you have some sort of hearing or trial upcoming.)

AFM - well I managed to get my patio stones covered in the outdoor bleach, but I also managed to burn the tips of my fingers! I use bleach all the time, and have never had an issue with it burning! WTF? Anyway, luckily I stopped immediately and it didn't get too bad. Still annoying to have 3 fingertips a little raw. :grr:

I have been trying to find a decent Lechon Asado recipe (Cuban pork for those of you that aren't familiar with this wonderful food). YUM! I want to make it in my crock pot. I think I've decided to do the 'gringo' way and go buy Mojo sauce and a pork shoulder, brown it in a pan first then put it and the sauce and some onion in my crock pot and see what happens. It is an experiment! LOL. I will serve it with yellow rice and black beans, and I'll have it for the week ahead. Wish me luck!

As for the debate on caffeine and soda..

Caffeine is not recommended due to what Coy mentioned. Soda is not recommended because of all the additives and high fructose corn syrup. There are some healthier versions that are just fine. Or you can make your own 'soda'. The soda that is still OK are made with fruit juices and carbonated water. You should be able to identify all of the items in the ingredients list. Or better yet, make your own! Grab your favorite fruit juice (make sure it doesn't have any added sugar, or at a minimum isn't made with high fructose corn syrup, and mix 1/3 juice with 2/3 sparkling water). Yum!

I love root beer too, I bet you can have it on occasion, just get the kind that is made by a specialty root brewery that uses all natural ingredients.

OK, I'm off to run my errands that I didn't do yesterday after I burned my fingers. Gotta get my vitamins, some picture frames, the ingredients to make my roast pork and I'm sure I'm forgetting something else! LOL.

Happy Sunday afternoon everyone!

Interesting, my family wanted me to become a lawyer, I always wanted to be an architect. I ended up being neither! If I could go back and do it all over again I would be a Doctor. I love medicine, and how the body works, or in some cases doesn't work. It fascinates me! I keep joking that if I could go back to school right now I'd go into medicine. Thing is that at 40, I'm too old! I'd be getting out of residency, and be ready to retire! LOL!

On to Clomid. I was originally put on 100mg of clomid as we were trying to encourage multiple eggs. I was already ovulating on my own but the idea was to increase my chances with multiple follicles. It didn't work for me, but we only gave that particular med 1 try (via IUI), I then went to Canada for 2 months, and did 1 IUI unmedicated, and another IUI using Gonal F and menopur. Neither of those worked either. I ovulated each time, sometimes up to 4 eggs! Still nothing! Then 2 IVFs later, I still have nothing to show for it but an almost empty bank account.

From what I know about Clomid, the Dr's usually do up the dose if it isn't working, but from what you have said, you haven't really been getting the :sex: timing down which is more likely the cause of it not working. Sounds to me like upping the dose is not necessarily the best option. Getting your DH in better shape to be able to :sex: at the right time is probably the better option at the moment. Course upping the dose of Clomid AND getting the :sex: timing right could result in twins, or at least an increased chance if only a singleton. I guess it is up to you? Do you want twins? If so I'd say go for the 100mg and do whatever you need to do to get your DH to :sex: with you at the right times :) Oh, one caution I will make with using Clomid, is that it thins the lining. Since you aren't being monitored you can't be sure that it is doing this or not, but it very well could be. Taking baby aspirin from the start of your cycle through until ovulation can help improve your lining. So can raspberry leaf tea (so I've heard). So you might want to consider adding these to your diet for the first 2 weeks of your cycle to counter act the thinning of your lining from the Clomid.

Jen- wow, I had no clue about even being charged can be a bar issue! Holy crap thanks town! :growlmad: lol! Aaaargh, I hate the town I live in....

My situation in a nutshell: my town is very racially prejudice. My dh is Italian/Oglala Lakota Sioux. I am a non-local which in this town is suicidal  Anyway one of the store grocer managers was my business competitor years ago which puts a big target on my butt now for some reason  He accused me recently (to the police) of switching a price tag on a bag of frozen chicken :saywhat: and claimed he had witnesses and video. I scoffed at all because I did not switch the tags.

Video #1 shows me walking down an aisle, selecting a bag of frozen chicken, placing it in my cart.

Video #2 shows me paying for it.

Video #3 shows me exiting the store.

Witness #1: "I saw her pay for the chicken".

Witness #2
(star witness): "I wasn't working that day but I saw the videos 1-3 and I think someone's been changing tags and I bet it's her..."

Lol! So here I am with my attorney and out a minimum of a thousand dollars in fees...:growlmad:

Re: field of law. My original motivation: professional trade and money (what else? :haha: ) But you are right I am seeing a flooded field. Blood spatter? You mean like forensics, correct? I could do that. I am somewhat cynical and agressive so  and want something I can provide or my kids with above and beyond basic needs iykwim... I am combining criminal psychology in my study as well.

Coy- I'm not a lawyer but unless they have some sort of proof that the tag was switched I don't see how they can continue with the proceedings. Sounds to me like the prosecution is delaying because they have no case! Personally the whole thing seems ludicrous, and a waste of tax payers money! This should never have made the court system in the first place. So bizarre. It wouldn't have happened in S FL, we have bigger fish to fry like the drive by shootings that seem to happen daily! A price change where you save a $1 is not going to make the docket in S FL!
Hopefully your case will be dropped! Or better yet you will win and the grocery store can pay your legal fees! Ohh.. or can you elect to go on Judge Judy or some other such show? LOL! That would be hilarious! That would teach them.. title of the show.. price swapping chicken stealer!

Ali- I know right? Judge Judy..seriously! In a heartbeat :haha:

Nope there is no foundation for the accusation that was made...it's just this town loves to drag me through muck if they can. Personal history. Maybe I fired somebody's kid or refused to hire an uncle of somebody or something? It gets around and is super easy to make enemies here :sad1: even without trying to. So everyone tries to "get even" if they can. It drives me crazy because I can't really afford it you know? But I refuse to take it laying down iykwim :growlmad: I am hoping I can sue for fees back plus damages on reputation. So crazy! That's all I need....do all this educating then get refused law school over someone's made-up junk :nope: Aaargh!

Btw...bleach is killer, ya gotta be careful with it! I never put it against my skin. Maybe pick up some cleaning gloves?

Omg. It is so difficult to study w/my dd's!! lol! It took me a couple hours to get Aeryn to sleep at which point the other 2 decide they need to loudly demand my attention constantly...so here I am with a deadline trying to study and write one-handed w/ a sleeping baby and 2 rowdy youngsters!

 :headspin: lol!
Plus, I am hungry  lol

I spoke to my Dr about Clomid and she said thinning of the lining was a small % of women who take it and it's on higher doses. My friend just got her bfp after 2yrs of trying and they did 2 mos of clomid 50mg. She just entered her 2nd trimester this week too. I think I will try clomid/IUI after seeing what the 2nd RE says on Feb 19. The puts me taking the meds 3 cycles from now. I'm hoping the acupuncture I am going for by then has me in better shape for things to work. Weird thing though...I had some crazy dreams last night, 1 being me looking at a + on a FRER, and then keeping it from my family until I was in my 2nd trimester. The the next dream was even stranger.

Going to look at a house this afternoon...but it backs onto a cemetery..I'd be scared for every sound, creak, shadow! I wouldn't be able to be at home alone at night! I'd be waiting for a poltergeist!! We'll see, the house is big and all redone, 4 bdrms...there is always a catch.

Not feeling like it's a good month for us as we only bd twice during my fertile days. We were like rabbits earlier in my cycle but the timing was bad. Since I had 4 days of fever it means I will be getting af the day before we leave for Vail...and my fertile days won't be while on vacay. Sucks...having af for dh's bday and vacay...damn!

How was everyone's weekend?

Hi Everyone.... I'm beat tired, so will fill you in on all the gorey details later if you want to know the WHOLE story.... in a nutshell, I was in labour for days and have been in the hospital since Wednesday.... Just got home late last night.
Babes was born by Emergency C-Section in the morning on Friday, January 11th!!
She was born 7 lbs 14 oz (so NOT a macrosomatic baby - HA!) and 20 inches long.... when they checked her blood sugars for hypoglycaemia she was good! and they kept going up... so again- HA! And when they checked her for Jaundice, the result came up ZERO and the nurse says, "oh, I've never seen that before" I say "in a GD baby?" and she says, "no, in any baby.... I've heard of it, but I've just never seen it!" HA HA HA HA Medical community who kept telling me that all those things were absolutely going to happen!!! Did I mention that I love being right? *grin*

My midwives are almost here for my first antenatal visit, and I'm beat tired.... so might be a bit till I'm on again, and I'll try to catch up with you lot!
Thanks for being there for me, Ladies....
much love, Phil....

Phil! Yay! Congrats mom :winkwink: I am proud of you! And what a gorgeous little doll :cloud9: I bet you are tired but over the moon right?! And yep, being right is always nice :winkwink: No worries on a healthy babe.

Why the emergency C-Section? How are you feeling now??

BabyWhisperer - I think clomid thins everyone's lining, it's just a matter of how much? For me it was probably a good thing as my lining tends to be thicker than it should be. My lining was around 8mm on my clomid cycle, 12 on my unmedicated cycle and 14-19 on my highly medicated cycles. They want it to be 9-12mm I believe. So in hindsight the thinner lining might have been better?

As for the cemetery, check out the back yard and see if there isn't some way you can block out the view? You could do some creative stone work, or hedging so it wouldn't be so obvious. Believe me, having a cemetery for me would be enormously better than a family with a pool that is constantly playing loud music to all hours of the night and waking me up every Sat/Sun morning at 8am with the pool cleaner! :)

AFM - Finally home from shopping. Man, having 3 injured fingers is annoying! I feel like a cripple I can't do anything with my fingers. I can type because the tips aren't burnt, its a little farther down on the fingers. I just hurts to pick anything up with your fingers, or shampoo your hair. Things like that are difficult. Hopefully another day and they'll be less annoying.

Only a few more days until I get to speak with my FS about my implantation woes. We'll have the results of the blood work and will have a better idea if there is anything wrong. Hopefully it isn't anything too serious, and my upcoming FET will be successful!

Yeahhhhhhh! She's here! How are you feeling? Was the baby in jeopardy that's why they did a c-section? I hope you are feeling good and healing well. :hugs:

Coy - saw the house, not a fan. Dh hates splits and even though it's huge the house isn't our taste. Oh well the search continues...

How is everyone?
