Welcome to 'Trying To Conceive Over 35'

Good news!!! My follicles had grown, and we are all good to go with the IUIs!

My left ovary only has one nice follicle it was 19mm large, and my right ovary has one nice follicle that was 28x24mm. They grew a bunch since Monday when they were 13mm and 16mm! I used a hot water bottle each night for about an hour on just my left side.. :haha:

Dr ordered the HCG shot to be given right there and then. My IUIs will be 8:30am tomorrow and Saturday.

I asked about the progesterone suppositories, and guess what? He automatically prescribes them and wants his patients to be on them immediately after the IUIs.

I may not like my Dr's bedside manner, but he certainly covers all the bases! The price is a little high perhaps, but I do think I have had solid care. Does anyone know? Is $950/cycle + $350 for the extra IUI a lot? That includes 3 ultrasounds, the consultations with the Dr and the 2 IUIs at a total of $1300.

So in another day or 2 I will be on the flip side of ovulation, and hopefully will be testing in another 8-10 days!

Wooo HOOOOO! this is sounding so GREAT!!
I am so happy for you Ali!!!
Your doc seems right on top of everything!!
As for cost, I know Canada is different as so much is covered here, but we did have to pay for our IUI procedure. I think we paid $350 but that only included the sperm scrub and shine and the actual procedure by a nurse. I didn't have any ultrasounds to check my follicles and we only had one IUI this cycle. The dr visits were covered by Alberta Health. I think $1300 for the double IUI (plus you are in the States) makes sense when you see all the extras you are getting....
I started POAS at 7 DPO knowing it would be negative for a few days and got my first super faint positive at 10DPO with a Clearblue HPT.....
Costco here sells 4 packs of Clearblue for about $18 so I had plenty to pee on!
Good Luck!!!

Ali and Angel- the progesterone that my dcotor prescribed was called "Micronized Progesterone" in vaginal suppostiory. It apparently also comes ina cream form...he reccommended not using the oral tablets as your liver etc has a way of "getting rid" of at least 90% of it before it can be absorbed for your uterus, etc. However, the vaginal supps are about as "close to home" :haha: as it gets!

Oh, also my supps were 100 mg. The way my doc talked itwas fruitless to test progesterone levels as the way he put it your levels will always be "normal" range as it is after pregnancy or implantation that you need the boost, or the unplanned event of a dyeing (sp) corpus luteum.

Phil- something about "sperm scrub and shine" is funny to me :haha: Lol, even though I know it is a very important part of the procedure. Just love the way you say "scrub and shine" lol...

Phil! Thanks so much, it is so nice to have the support of you and Jess, Coy, etc. I wish I still had my OHIP, but now that I live in the States I don't qualify. I bought some internet cheapies, and will use those initially and will then start using my FRER's if the IC's show any faint lines. I must say I'm doing the :happydance: right now!!!

HEHE.. me too! Sounds like I'm ordering the #5 car wash TEEHEE!

hey if we can't have a laugh about any of this, what's the point??? *grin*
Ali, they probably would have 'shined' up your little swimmers, too!! They only insert the best of the best to give it the greatest chance of success! Whoopie!!
I always think of them as little sparkly baby makers!!!
I'm so excited for you, I'm doing a happy dance all the way up here!!

YEP! From what I have been told, only the best and brightest are invited to this party! :haha:

Now I'm worried that it won't work, I wonder what the odds are of it working the first IUI cycle? Do you happen to know what the odds are for that?

FX'd that it works, I don't want to have to wait until September to try again!

Whatever you do, don't look up any of the stats... they are skewed as it includes every woman who has "ever" had the procedure. You are healthy, you have a great follicle ready to go.... the timing is all good and your getting a second IUI right away to increase your chances.... stay positive and if it takes, fabulous! if not, then on to the next time.... but please do not look up any stats... they are not accurate AT ALL!!

Something my FS did say to me was that if IUI is going to work, then it will probably be in the first THREE tries.... statistically the successes happen in the 1st three tries...

I wanted to clarify, too, that what I meant about the stats being skewed is that the numbers include women who have severe issues, or those who had little chance of anything working.... also, the majority of women going the IUI route are choosing that route because of some sort of issue with their fertility. You, on the other hand, are going this route because you are single, right? So I would think that puts you in a better chance box right there... your age isn't as important (you are still fine in that dept), but not having a baby-daddy at your beck and call kind of impedes things, right?
SO, in a nutshell, I would say that you are doing everything you can to give yourself the best chance of getting preggers!! and it's not unusual for it to take a cycle or two... or three... Your doctor seems really, really thorough, and I can't think of anything else he could have had you do to increase your chances this cycle, SO RELAX girl, and let the magic happen!!!
Sending many good thoughts your way!!!

OK! I won't! I have looked at them and have been totally confused. Some places say 6% and others say 20-26%? I would have thought they were higher. I mean why else do we do it? :haha:

Is there a baby dance I can do kind of like a rain dance? :haha:

for me, the baby dance consisted of squealing in the shower and occassionally breaking out into song.... !!!

Phil! Thanks so much, I can't tell you how much all the positive support has meant to me!!! :hugs: Yes you are right, I don't have a baby daddy at my beck and call. I do have a BF, but we've only been seeing each other for 3 months and while he's supportive, he is not ready to tackle being a dad. Plus I'm not sure we are ready to try, even if he was OK with the idea. So we have been careful when we BD, not condom careful, but pulling out careful. So I guess there is a chance that his :spermy: might make it up there. I'm not counting on that, and would prefer my super mega handsome and athletic pro golfer :haha::haha: Not that John is bad looking, he's actually quite handsome!! Anyway, I digress. Yes, basically I am doing this as a relatively healthy single woman, who doesn't really have any health issues other than a questionable right tube. So maybe my chances are better than others? Or maybe due to the tube they are about the same?

UGH.. I'm not going to think about it! I'm just going to keep doing my :happydance: and then track my TWW!!

Thanks again Phil, Jess, Coy, Angel, and the countless others that have given me support!

Ali- Crinone is a progesterone gel-- you insert it in the vagina also so I am guessing just as good if not more convenient than the refrigerated supps....here is a link I found with some good info...minus the "how to insert" portions lol! :haha: I think women can figure it out

https://www.ivf1.com/crinone/

On the stats and odds: I wouldn't pay any attention to them. I was very discouraged while ttc- the stats indiciated because I was 36 I hadn't a chance in hell. The stats told me because my dh was over 50 I didn't have a chance in hell. The stats told me for a young and superbly healthy woman shooting eggs in all directions :haha: would only have a 20% chance of conception in the first 6 months. So I was not very hopeful. Then I got preggers in the first 4 weeks :haha: So stats be damned-- who needs'em? Lol. Plus Phil got preggers on her first IUI- so it def can happen!! Keep your chin up and your hopes high! I got my fx'd for you!

Crinone is what I took during my IVFs. Be sure they don't give you too much, if you don't use it they may not take it back and they're expensive - I have a number of sticks just sitting in the fridge.

Just had a positive OPK.. so the trigger is working!
If the predictions are correct, I should be ovulating very early Saturday morning.
I hope everything works out correctly!
Thanks everyone for the well wishes! :hugs:

So exciting, Ali!! So just to clarify, you go in tomorrow (Friday) AND Saturday for your IUI's?? with a positive opk tonight, that sounds like perfect timing!!!
