Welcome to 'Trying To Conceive Over 35'

Yikes, Ali, I hope I didn't offend you with my question- I sure didn't mean too! I am wondering by adult pics do you mean pictures of the men as they look today or pictures of their special contributing parts? I am not trying to be offensive but as cynical and jaded as I can be at 37 I am still vastly naive...:( Humor my idiocy :)

LOL, would take a lot more than that to offend! Sorry.. struggling with a very insistent doggy, he keeps crawling on top of me, the lap top and well anywhere else he can to get my attention, I think I am going to step away and deal with the crazy beast for a few.. before he starts typing for me!!!

Aww, let him type! He's got stuff to say too :haha: Zach, right? He's gorgeous btw!

Aww, let him type! He's got stuff to say too :haha: Zach, right? He's gorgeous btw!

Thanks! Yes, he is a sweetie. He and Zoe both attacked, jumping all over me, and making it impossible to type! I decided to feed them, so that helps!

OK so now I'm back to California Cryobank. Fairfax looks great, but by the time I put all my criteria in, there were only 4 donors, and 2 had waitlists. Crazy! I guess I could buy the profiles of the 2 that are not on waitlists, that would be cheaper than the $150 fee to see all of them. IDK. I think I will sleep on it.

I'm spotting and exhausted. At least my migraine is gone! Dr said it was probably due to my dropping estrogen levels. Which would mean that a migraine just before my period is due, is a clear indication that I am not pregnant (for future cycles).

I want a puppy, but dh said babies before puppies. Well it sounds like af is coming for you, that's good so it will be over soon. I'm sure it will be a doozy.

Speaking of not feeling so hot, the stuffy feeling in my head I had this morning is back. If I come down with a cold they usually are worse in the morning and at night...I hope that's not it. The cramping/grinding feeling is back too. I just want curl into a ball. Feels like af

I'm going to turn in and hopefully feel better tomorrow morning...hoping this isn't af about to swoop in on her broom.

Feel better!

I'm right behind you.. crampy icky feelings, and I forgot why I was so happy to have found a donor before, that was literally perfect! It is maddening! You find someone you think is great, then you read their medical history and they have a history of alcoholism, cancer, obesity, and its like, ugh.. back to the drawing board! I'm going to give up for tonight..

Sleep well my bnb family! Dreams of little babies for all!

Baby and Ali-

Thanks for the chat ladies! You brightened my evening! :hugs: Go to sleep and hope you both feel better in the morning!

Ali- it is just that way...you think you "know" someone, right? Then you find out the truth. Is there any way you can get a refund of sorts or a credit financially because of dudes messed-up donations?

AFM- I am right behind you both...after I wash the dishes, clean the kitchen from dinner, put away left-overs, fold a load of laundry, tuck the dd's in, read them a story, say their prayers for the night, then take a long warm bath, and I plan on eating a bowl of vanilla ice cream smothered in Hersheys :cloud9: Then I hope to sleep for at least 6-8 hours then have a baby :haha:

:dust: :dust: to you both!

At least you don't have to go out on a bunch of dates with the sperm to find out that they are cheap, rude to waiters, don't call you back, or expect you to put out on the 1st date...well actually :winkwink: Sorry, trying to create some levity in what I am sure is a grueling process. Do sperm have like Match.com profiles??? I'd help you "shop".

Btw my Mom makes bomb carrot cake with homemade cream cheese frosting, it's ridic!

Yes, it is exactly like Match.com!!! I'm currently looking at the California CryroBank. They also suggested Fairfax. I want to look at their services first, and see if I want to try either of these companies or stick with Xytex. Only thing is that I've paid for the premium membership at Xytex and saw all of their pictures. I'm not sure I want to pay for their membership again, as I'm sure their stock hasn't changed that much. I want fresh meat!! OMG, I kill myself sometimes. Picking out sperm is such a bizarre thing!

I'll let you know when I've figured out which company I think looks best, and then get the premium membership, and will share the pw so you guys can look too! Selection of sperm can be a group effort! HAHA!!

I am so IN!

Angel! Sorry I was at the Dr's when reading your update, and didn't want to type too much on my phone (it gets very tedious)!

So can you explain what all of these things are?

So here is now my WTT protocol;
High Dose FA
High Dose Vit D (added myself thanks to Tasha)
Pregnacare conception
Omega 3 (thanks Lee for that tip)
LDA
Agnus Castus for my cycles

I have no idea what FA or pregnacare or LDA are. I know what Agnus Castus is, we call that Vitex here.

I am so happy that you are making progress!!! That your RMC followed up with your GP and they are now working together to get things done! :yipee: Since we know you have no issues getting pregnant, I'm not sure that being on metformin will help? It usually helps one get pregnant. Your issue is keeping it, which is where the progesterone and the clexane will come in. Celexane is an anticoagulant which will stop your body from clotting and cutting off the blood supply to the baby. Progestrone will keep your uterus nice and thick and welcoming for baby. I think this is excellent!! YAY!

I've never heard of a hysteroscomy, but I have heard of a hysteroscopy (actually I even googled a hysteroscomy but it didn't come up with anything), so I think you are probably scheduled for a hysteroscopy. I've had 2 of those, by 2 different Dr's (one in Canada to unblock my tube) and another here to make sure my uterus was healthy and shaped properly. I guess there is a lot to be said about the shape, and how it is tilted etc. It helps determine whether you will be able to carry a baby to term. Plus I guess things can change over time? Things like fibroids, polyps, or even after having a child, things can be altered. So I'm sure they just want to make sure everything is A OK down there! It is a little uncomfortable (luckily I was out for the second one). But you can do it!! I would think that the genetic testing is rather simple, they just take your blood, or maybe a cheek swab and run it.

As for moving to North America. I think your chances are better in Canada. The US is a difficult place to emigrate to. I should know! I did it. I had to have a job and it had to be on the list of approved jobs according to the NAFTA treaty (which is only between Canada and the US). If you are trying to emigrate from another country it is even more difficult. You will have to find a company that will sponsor your visa and it has to be a professional type position (or if you have $500K USD that you want to invest in the US, you can get a Green Card that way too I believe). I think that is why you see so many foreigners opening chain restaurants, they have the money and it is an easy way to come to the US for them. Your chances for emigrating to Canada are much better I believe, plus the social programs will be much better there than in the US. I don't know exactly what you would have to do however to emigrate to Canada, as I am Canadian! LOL.

Angel, I'm excited for you, even if your work situation and money situation is a little tight right now, I feel good vibes!

Hey Ali, thanks for the detailed reply, your support means a lot :hugs:

Re the hysteroscopy -
I must just have started typing it wrong and continued :dohh::dohh::blush::haha:. I have had a HSG before which I think is very similar. I'm not even going to try and spell that one, that's the one where they stick the die up your tubes, I think the hysteroscopy just isn't as invasive as they are only checking womb shape.

I'll outline as best as I can more detail about my protocol, I would obviously talk to your doctor just in case some were to contradict with your own meds for this next round of IVF -

  • High Dose FA = high dose folic acid. I have to now take 5mg daily, the recommended normal dose is 400ug so yes a big increase. I think it’s linked to making sure my body has enough and also helping to prevent foetus defects which may be a cause of my RMCs.
  • High Dose Vit D – linked to decreasing pre-term births and complications. I am really taking it as where I live I only get on average 2-4 hours of sunshine a day at this time of year (5hours average in the summer!) , I think you should be fine in this respect:winkwink:
  • Pregnacare conception – these are Pregnancy multi-vitamins, this brand must be a UK label.
  • Omega 3 – meant to be effective in improving uterine blood flow, meant to also help reduce blood clotting.
  • LDA – low dose aspirin, 75mg once a day. When I get my next BFP I have to continue this with the clexane, some doctors just prescribe clexane from BFP but apparently the aspirin does still have a small effect and the clexane will be the main blood thinner.
  • Agnus Castus for my cycles – Vitex as you know, I use it for my irregular cycles linked to my PCOS. For me it’s a lifesaver, normal cycles all the way now.

And regarding the metformin, there are studies that suggest taking it in the first trimester can help reduce miscarriage rates, especially in PCOSers as PCOS is an insulin disorder. But I’ve done a bit more research and the jury is still out on its benefits/disadvantages. They say there is probably more benefit to taking aspirin and blood thinners as they think PCOS is a main cause of clotting disorders. I feel a bit more settled now after reading this. If anybody has found any other research I’d be interested to hear.

Ali, I'm so excited about this sperm donation thing!!!!!!!!! How cool is that? And you know what you don't have to go through loads of dates, wining and dining and potential mismatching :sex: fun to find it, I just think it's brill :winkwink:

I think AF is arriving for me, a good few days early but I know they can be all over the place after a MC. I'm thinking my body must have rejected the last pregnancy a few days before I started bleeding hence why I'm early? I think I'm only on CD24 :growlmad:

Coy, Babywhisperer, Terri, Twotogo, Phil and eveybody else - have a good day xoxo

Well I'm up and feeling crappy. I have a head cold, feels pressure in my head, eyes burn, stuffy nose, and that oh so lovely post nasal drip. Maybe that's why my temp wet from 98.55 to 98.67 this morning. I still have dull achey cramps. I might take the day and work from home or go in late...haven't decided.

Hope everyone slept well! Is it too early to be focused on my chart? Af can still make an unwelcome appearance. Time for :coffee:

Good morning ladies!

Gotta post and run...
I took an equate + hpt this morning, and at first I got real excited because after the 3 minute mark it looked like an ever so faint positive line. Then after a few minutes it seemed to be gone. I tried to take a pic of it, but it is so bad you can't even see the - part of the line in the pic. It was FMU, however it was almost clear as I had been up at 2:30 this morning getting a drink and taking some medicine. The test also said to take after the 1st day of missed period, and AF isn't due until Saturday. Nowhere on the box or instructions did it have the sensitivity, so  who knows. Guess I will just wait until Saturday and take the FRER.

Hope you all have a great day. Probably won't be on here much as it will be an EXTREMELY busy day.

FX'd that you get a clear, dark, line asap! Sounds like you are headed in that direction! :dust:

Whew, just spent most of the afternoon reading again. When I get on my computer, its usually only for short times. The battery on my phone isn't very good, so if I check out BnB on there, it soon dies.

I've been super busy just lately, not having a minute to myself. Still stressing that I'm on CD60 and still haven't ovulated. Once I've started AF, I'm going to call my doctors office and book an appointment. I'm going to be more assertive this time though. Surely there'll be something they can do for someone at my age having this problem.

Ali, I'm so excited, waiting for your news. I know you have a great back up plan now, but we can still all be hopeful for this time round. All the symptoms you mentioned seemed very pregnancy like. As its been mentioned previously, some ladies have taken a long time to register a BFP, I wonder if its due to all the extra hormones you've been taking.

I was working at home today, suddenly I was disconnected from the server at lunch time, so I called the office and there was a lot of noise in the background. Basically, the whole system had gone down, so no work was getting done. I've spent all afternoon occasionally trying to log on to the system and not being able to, so I've just sat and read through about a weeks worth of posts on here to catch up. I have to go into the office tomorrow, which takes 1.5 hours, so I'll be really annoyed if its still down all day, which has happened to us before.

Oh, can you remember, I was stressing the other week that my Sister was pregnant, well, she isn't. I don't know what that phone call was about, but she says she isn't yet.

Angel, its good to see you back, I'm glad you're getting things sorted, I hope your appointment for this week is some good news.

Coy, you are very suspicious in your absense, I hope its good news. I did predict the 30th September, so if it is today, I was pretty darn close eh? Hope you're well and all issues with your Hubby have been sorted out. Your girls sound so cute. I can't believe K fell in the loo - twice!!!

Jess, so 5 weeks until you're contest? How amazing would it be for you to find out you were PG on the day you competed?

Twotogo, Baby, had a look at your charts, looking good! hopefully this will be your cycles.

Thanks TL. I'm new to charting so I don't know what to make of it. As for you, 60 days is long. I forget, do you have pcos? I would see the dr sooner rather than later. maybe they can give you something to induce your period. FX'd you get it figured out soon. :hugs:

Hey Baby, yes, I have PCOS.

Hey Baby, yes, I have PCOS.

Yes, a few years ago when I was having troubles with long periods, my Dr cautioned me about having cycles longer than 60 days. Said that if they get too long you are at an increased risk for uterine cancer and if after 45 days I didn't get my period to call in and get an Rx for prometrium (progesterone I think?) to induce a period.

I know I have said this before, but Vitex (angus cactus sp) is known to help women with PCOS regulate their periods. It is fairly inexpensive and it works! It is recommended by many as a means to normalize/regulate periods, and the best news is that you don't even have to get an Rx for it. I know you are hesitant but I used it 2-3 years ago, and almost immediately I got my period (like 3-5 days later) and I took it for maybe 2-3 months, and then stopped. My periods have stayed regular (no idea why) but I think it was in part due to the Vitex. I would suggest trying it for a month, see if it helps any. If it doesn't at least you can say you tried!

Hey Baby, yes, I have PCOS.

Have you tried acupuncture? My friend had great success, her cycles went from 42 to 31 with just a few sessions and she got a bfp! Just a thought. :hugs:

That is a good question Coy.. I'm not sure whether they will give a discount/rebate/refund on the sperm I have already bought and paid for. I would like to know how many children he has fathered and when? I know he is married and has 2 kids of his own. I do wonder whether any of his donor sperm has been successful. When I called to get more, they said they only had 1 vial left (this last cycle), so he is popular! No idea whether there have been successes though. HMMM.

One vial left out of how many? That's a good question to ask, and if there were any complaints or repeat users. He might just be the best of their inventory, but not better than other places inventory. Just a though. Man am I ever the skeptic :dohh:

I know that when I first got his sperm back in May/June he had over 50 vials available. So to be down to 0 in early Sept, is wild. He was meant to have a few more available in a few weeks, but that wasn't soon enough for me.
I might give them a call and ask more questions about that. Especially now that we know that his sperm is not that great (gene wise or DNA wise). If you read the profile I posted, he does seem perfect! Plus the picture, he's a good looking guy! ARGH, I wish I didn't have to pick another!
