Welcome to 'Trying To Conceive Over 35'

Chantal - you need to gain 10 pounds :growlmad:

LOL! JK! When I was in my early 20s I weighed 100 and I KNOW that I was too skinny..all hip and rib bones. But I hated people telling me that I was TOO anything iykwim? Dh laughs when I go nuts trying to lose weight but he understands that "comfortable" feeling you're talking about. I like not squishing over my jeans waist band :haha: But truth is my mw told me to gain so I deliberately gained and did get preggo...whether that's related or not... Oh, I was going to ask too...do you eat lots of fish/seafood? I have heard terrible stuff in regard to toxicity so I cut it out completely. I used to love tuna but :nope: I worried it would hamper my bfp chances. Mercury, etc...

Yes Coy I do eat alot of seafood. Fish 2-3 times a week, salmon, flounder. It's frozen here not good like the fresh fish I used to get from the fishermen in Barbados. I do avoid tuna Midwife had told me to eat as much as I could as it was very good for ttcing. . So you mean you don't eat fish at all? I have been eating tapioca pudding every day. That should help put some weight on me :winkwink:

Jess! I need help, lol:haha: What's a good breakfast idea? High protein? What do you throw in for carbs? I know crackers are bad, and I seem to have lost my taste for them. Should I work out sefveral times a day or...? Usually I try mid-day (if I can) then evening. Running is always a "want" but not always a for sure thing because of Aeryn...she is becoming a mama's girl :cloud9: and quite clingy right now. But weights I do every day and stretching...

Hello my beautiful friend!

Here is what I do for breakfast:

...carbs: corn grits Why? Because they are relatively gluten free, an excellent source of fiber, Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B3, Vitamin B5, Vitamin B6, Calcium, Magnesium, Potassium, Zinc, Iron, Phosphorus, Manganese, Copper and Sodium, folic acid and even have a little protein in them.
Oatmeal or Oatbran (Many of the same reasons listed above.)

Protein: Eggs Why? They are a perfect low calorie protein and are easily absorbed by the body. I suggest 3 whites to every 1 yolk. I will eat them boiled, scrambled & over medium. I have even made egg white muffins in my muffin tin in the oven and mixed in things like peppers, salsa, and turkey sausage. (These are really good and easy to make. You can make several and then reheat them as you need them.)
Protein powder: When I am in a hurry and I don't have time to cook, I down a couple of scoops of whey protein and eat a small handful of almonds

On the weekends I make egg white omelets with baby spinach, turkey sausage, and perhaps a few hash browns. My BF absolutely LOVES my omelets.

Splitting your workouts up into two sessions is ideal. This allows your body to burn at a higher caloric rate twice a day as opposed to just once a day. Also, cardio, things like running, cycling, and aerobics will have your body burning at a higher caloric rate for about 30 minutes to an hour after you have finished. BUT, weight training makes your body burn at a higher caloric rate for up to 24 hours after training. So mixing them up is great!
I do my cardio in the morning. Then I am usually running around at work until I weight train in the evening. Then my body is burning at a higher rate even while I am sleeping. Oh yeah, and then sometimes I throw in that extra lunch time cardio ;)
I admit, I do not stretch as much as I probably should. But flexibility is very important.

I hope this helps!

Ali I understand how you feel. After I had my fibroid removed I would panick and think that I grew another one every time I spotted before :af: Before my miscarriage I NEVER spotted before :af: :nope: Chin up. Soon you will be getting some answers when they do the mock implantation.

Terri- You made me smile because I always use the work "nookie" too when talking to dh. :haha: When it is the week of ovulation we have "quickies" too. The foreplay is great but sometimes sleep is more important when You are only getting 6 hours or so of sleep!

twiggers- hubby and I have been ttcing for 3 years since miscarriage. You would think I'd de used to having bfn's but after :af: is over I get excited and say new cycle. I am never going to give up! lol

Coy I like to line muffin cups with lean ham and break an egg into it. Ta-da ham and egg nests! :haha:I also love scrambled eggs and turkey bacon

I need to go use this root rescue to cover my silver strands, then clean the house and then pack the suitcase since I will be cooking and baking Friday. I could leave the packing till next week but the clothes are all laid out on the bed and not very attractive when guests come over Saturday.

Jess how do you make corn grits? It must be an American dish as I have never heard of it. I do like hash browns. Your egg white recipe is more healthy than how I eat my eggs. Dr Oz said egg yolks are good cholesterol. He confuses me so much first he says only eat the whites, now recently he said eat the yolks too. I just can't resist ham and turkey bacon :haha:

Grits can be purchased at the grocery store. Follow the directions on the package. You will find them on the same aisle as oatmeal and other cereals. When flavored with splenda and a bit of real butter, grits taste similar to cream of wheat. You can also flavor them with salt, pepper, garlic, etc. to make them savory. Savory shrimp and grits are a popular Southern dish. :)

Jess- thanks! So I did okay with my egg white omelet :winkwink: I cook mine in a bit of olive oil with mushrooms and black olives, then, ahem, my hot sauce  lol...I eat a lot of fat free yogurt and for my butts sake :haha: I eat ice cream. That stuff is too addictive :nope: I have trouble squeezing cardio in, dh is showing me some ideas for in-house cardio that I'll try. Thank you!!

Hi Ladies! :hi:

OMG I am having a serious rant day.. but I will spare you all from that insanity! :haha: At one point I had decided that if one more more old person going 20mph got in front of me I was going to plow right over them. AHHHH. Yes one of those days.

I did have my Dr's appointment that did not go well. Dr still wants to do the trial, but it was supposed to be inexpensive, but the entire month is going to cost me about $3200, that is the test, the ultrasounds, blood work and the cost of the meds. That isn't a cheap 'trial' cycle! So I'm wondering if this is something I really want to do? I'm a little pissed that my FS made it sound like I'd just have to pay for the cost of the tests and the medications. Well he ordered me very expensive medications! The inserts are $6.29 each, and he ordered me 84 per cycle! That is $530 per cycle. :grr:

OK then we did the ultrasound. He couldn't find my uterus. :saywhat: It was there, but under something? IDK. The lining was only 3mm, but I haven't had my period yet. He did see evidence that I had ovulated, the corpus luteum was there. So that is good, but what is going on? He was surprised as he thought it should be thick and ready to shed. So , he decided to draw some blood to test my progesterone and estrogen to see what they are doing. I'll know more on Friday, in the mean time he wants me to go on provera to induce a period, so that we have a fresh cycle.

Off to take Zach to the vet, he is going to have his yearly shots. He is NOT going to be happy with me :nope:

:hugs: Sorry to rant.. just annoyed at the world (this is usually a sign that AF is on her way), but I don't see how since there wasn't any lining! :argh:

Ali- the rant is understandable. I'd be pi$$ed at doc too! Wow, he should have been more specific. Are you going to skip the trial then? Maybe go straight to ET this month?..?:happydance:

No I think I will do the trial, I just really want this to work, and I feel like this trial will give us some answers about my implantation window. I just want to get it all over with! So I can do the ET and be pregnant!!!

So poor Zach had to go to the Vet, and was doing fine until a big pit bull walked by. He freaks out, and then all the dogs freak out and I'm like really? As if my day wasn't annoying enough! :argh: :ignore: He settled down and was a perfect :angelnot: for the Vet. He is in perfect health, they suggested some moisturizing shampoo for him and we are to go back in April for his fecal exam, they are going to do a tooth cleaning for him then too.

So I'm trying to refinance my house.. this was my other frustration of the day. So I tell the guy, please call me between 12-2pm today (he only gets to work at noon), so we can move forward, well he doesn't call until 2:15 at which point I'm on my way to my Dr's appt, and can't talk to him. I'm like sorry, I'm booked the rest of the day. He starts whining and saying, you must have 10 minutes sometime today between now and 9pm! I'm like I probably will but when I get home from this horrible day the LAST thing I am going to want to do is talk to you! Then I'm heading home from my Dr appt, and my car starts beeping at me and showing me wheel/axel symbols on the dash and flashing. So I freak out thinking that my axel is somehow broken and I'm going to crash, and get off at the next exit and drive right to my VW dealership. He says, there isn't anything wrong with my car, but he thinks my battery is dying. :saywhat: So then I head to the Pharmacy to get my provera filled and then head home. Then pick up Zach to go to the vet, and well you read how well that went. :argh:

Good news is that Zach is fine , Zoe is fine , I'm going to be fine  after some :wine: and I will call the stupid refi guy here in a few mins :grr: so I can finally get that done! :dohh:

Ali - The rant is totally understandable. I also understand liking your cycle for the first half and hating it the second half. I feel the same way. I find that exercising gets the endorphins going when you feel like a rant.

JM- Thanks I'm going to follow your suggestions also! where do you find the strength to work out. I just got home and I'm so tired to workout.

Coy- I also mix 2 tablespoons of greek yogurt, 2 tablespoons of oat bran and 1 egg white with splenda....mix it well and then cook it like a pancake 2 minutes on each side..and yum! Good protein..with just a bit of carb. Ive been sticking to my no carbs for this week.

Chantal- I thought you lived in Barbados for some reason... fresh fish is always good.

So I finally got my answer. Looks like I'm going to start my ivf cycle the end of this month... when AF arrives. Finally hashed it out with the doctor. I don't know whether to be  for fear of the procedure or:flower:...but I'll figure it out with work.:coffee:

BTW when I read over these posts... they make me giggle. Great way to end the day

So glad Zoe and Zach are fine....

You know what? Forget the refi guy....he snoozes ..he loses....

YAY!!! :happydance: I am very excited for you! That is great news. I know you are worried about the timing and work and so on, but I am sure you will be able to work it out. They are usually pretty good about getting the timing down to within a few days. The procedures are not scary, the ER you are out cold, and will have some cramping after. I spent that first day in bed after the procedure, and then was able to work the following day. Then the ET is easy peasy. The worst part about it is the full bladder. They need you to have a full bladder in order to visualize the uterus properly. So sitting there in the chair with a full bladder for 20-30 mins can be uncomfortable. Some FS's after ET don't even recommend bed rest, while others do. Mine does, but I kind of like it, to just veg out and sleep and let my body recover. While the 2 procedures aren't that bad, the medications make your ovaries feel really full and you can get quite bloated (some have even said they felt 4-5 months pregnant). So I've found that it is nice to just relax after the ET and let the body heal.

Congrats on being in an IVF cycle! There is a thread for women doing IVF right now: https://babyandbump.momtastic.com/a...et-ivf-jan-feb-mar-2013-everyone-welcome.html They are a great help, in addition to us here in the 35+ group!

I called him, got the ball rolling, and he is going to send me DAILY updates about what my rate is, and we'll lock ASAP. So we got that dealt with. Now it is time to pour some :wine: and cuddle with my fur babies!

You make it sound easy. I'm trying to cut out carbs now and workout so I don't feel as bloated. I know they can get the time down, but I need 4 weeks of advance notice at work. My schedule fills up and then I can't really just call in sick. I'm going to try to keep work light for the week following my ovulation or estimated ovulation. He said it will be a 3 day transfer and he expects me to be on my feet after transfer. He also said I would have to go in every day for the shots. I guess I'm not doing it myself???? or sometimes 2x a day? Does that make sense to you?

It is exciting and I'm glad to have a bunch of woman going through the same thing. Maybe, I'll get lucky in February and get a 2013 baby and I won't need IVF.:winkwink:

It isn't easy, but the FS and their office staff should be there for you to make it much easier than it sounds. I did my own shots, and I'm sure you will too. You will be going in for monitoring from about CD 5 until ER then again on ET, then again 7 dp ER then again 14 dp ER. The monitoring from CD 5 (give or take) until your ER is to count your follicles and they will do blood work to monitor your FSH/LH/e2. These appts are usually pretty quick, like 15-20 mins and you are out. My FS office is great, they start seeing patients at 8:30 so I can be in/out and at work before anyone even realizes I'm late :) So it sounds like he is going to eliminate some of the down time by just doing a day 3 transfer. This helps, as you will only have to take off that day and the ER day. You can do it!!! Honestly, if I made it through, you can too!

Very excited about your trial also...

Can't wait to get going!
I realized today that March is the last month for the 2013 babies... so here here to having babies in 2013 to all my fellow friends.

Thanks, I am too, just want it to HAPPEN!
I was looking on a FET calculator, and I can actually do the FET up to April 10th and still have a due date of 12/31/2013. If I end up with twins then their gestational due date would be in early December. So there is still hope for me! I have a sinking feeling that my little bundle, if I get one, will be born in January. Hey.. I don't care when he/she is born as long as he/she is healthy and there aren't any complications.

:flower::flower::flower::flower::flower:

BTW.. the 7dp ER is to check your progesterone levels (p4) and the 14dp ER is your BETA. Some FS's do it sooner, others are later. That is average.

I think you made the right decision Ali. You definately need some answers about your implantation window. Those :cold: are precious and you want them to implant this time. It is so heartbreaking losing embryos by no fault of your own.:nope:

You made me laugh with that little rhyme about Zoe and Zach being fine and you after some wine :haha: love it!

Samsfan I did live in Barbados for 28 years but I live in Maryland now. The fish here is all frozen or thawed. It just isn't the same. When we got to Barbados the 18th I am going to be eating a different fish almost every day for 11 days lol

Goodnight ladies
