What advice have you been given about IVF and exercise?

hiya ladies,

i'm hopefully starting the second lot of drugs on thursday after my down reg scan, and i'm just wondering what the general advice is you guys have been given about ivf and exercise.

my head's all confused.......i was speaking to a lady the other day about this (bless her, she's not qualified, but is supporting a dear friend of hers on round 2 ivf) and she said not to do exercise whilst on any stage of ivf as the body doesn't need any more strain on producing hormones.

i've been on the net tonight researching this and it seems to be a mixed bag of opinions. The yuckiest thing i read was that the follicles can 'flip' and cause damage to the ovaries (once in the stimming phase).

i go the gym 3-4 times a week, i do intense CV work on the cross trainer for 15-20 mins, then weights for back and arms, and then stomach reps. Probably spend about 45 mins working out. I know i'll need to stop the stomach exercises, and not be as intense on the cross trainer, but can i still do light stuff?

I would love to not do anything at all and just relax during this manic time, but i do feel much more positive and destressed after the gym (i've been feeling v down since doing the down regs)

i'm gonna take this to the clinic on thursday, but was curious as to what you guys had been told.

Apologies for the long post!

I need to know this too. I'll add it to my list for my next RE appt and please post back here what you learn from yours. xoxo

will do hun, i've got my scan tomorrow x x x

Hi Hun, I can tell you what I've been told.

Nothing to do with abdominal area. Also, no running - but walking is encouraged. Avoid squats, but arm and shoulder work outs are ok.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Neyney, hope you're well hun x x x

I brought it up with my nurse today, and she advised nil exercise as she said the body is already working overtime once on stims. She said that the body will become tired anyway as the ovaries work hard, and that they advise taking it easy, especially once the embryo has been put back in.

i think i'll stop the more rigorous stuff and just take the dog round the park (good for bum, legs and CV) and lob his frisbee around too (good for arms) and then stop at the shop on the way home and buy a big fat chocolate bar (good for the soul)......

LoL - Oh I like your way of thinking!! :happydance:

I was told mild excercise, not to over do things. I think I will stick with walking on the treadmill and won't over do it.
