What an awful thing to do to babies

I cant find anything that says SMA is made by nestle

https://www.infactcanada.ca/nestle_boycott_product.htm

I found this Kala and SMA and follow-on are owned by Nestle.

EDIT: The above link is only for Canada. Below is a link for the UK products. SMA DOESNT appear to be on it.

Wasn't the boycott years ago about advertising Formula milk and boycotters claiming the formula was the cause of deaths in babies in under developed countries?

Probably very wrong but I'm on my phone and can't seem to open the link but it seemed like another thing dreamed up by those who try to preach about breastfeeding and how awful formula feeding is?
This is a very flippant/ill informed statement. Maybe you could google and find out more before assuming this is bf v ff (which it isn't)

I didnt know about this either and I am truly

Those poor mummies and babies and that picture of the baby twins is truly heartbreaking

We will no longer be consuming nestle products in this house knowingly :nope:

When I looked this up the other day I was shocked! :growlmad:
How could they put profits before lives????!!!!!! And that picture  the poor baby

I'm going to go looking through the cupboards now!

SMA is made by Pfizer in the UK. Nestle don't sell or own any formulas in the UK. I was brought up to boycot Nestle. I didn't even know why until recently! I have never bought Nestle.

Oh I knew about this. I've boycotted them for at least a decade. It is hard as they seem to be continually buying new things up. I was stunned a few years ago to find they own shredded wheat which I had though was weetabix. The worst was when they got Rowntrees in the '80s. According to my mum, I was too young to understand, it was a deal done by the Tories. Rowntrees made the best sweets. I find it easy not to have them now as Nestle has to have THE worst chocolate in the UK. Fruit pastilles lollies used to be a challenge but then they changed them to reduce the quality so they're no longer missed. Vile company in a great many ways.

:( my dogs eat Purina :( I didn't know nestle owned it. I feel so guilty knowing there is a whole bag of dog food in there.....

Nestle are STILL up to this kind of thing, here is an article from a mere 4 years ago about their practices in Bangladesh

https://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2007/may/15/medicineandhealth.lifeandhealth

disgusting. I also boycott HIPP because they have done similar aggressive marketing in several countries including poorer countries in Europe and on its borders, in Armenia because of this the BF rate was as low as 0.3% a few years ago and because there is a lot of poverty there many mums were switching to cows milk at a few months old; which can be lethal.

My landlady boycotts them so we're not allowed to have nestle products in the house. also not allowed loreal, garnier, body shop, haagen daaz, purina, perrier water, lancome, maybelline and many other products that are affiliated with nestle here.

they were giving free milk to 3rd world countries. marketing it as 'what the western women give their babies' - many had to spend a weeks wage on a single carton of formula as their milk wouldve dried up and so therefore watering down the formula dangerously. also many of these women didnt have the facilities to give the formula in a sanitary way so babies were dying of diarrhea and other illnesses. thats a simplistic way of putting it but thats the story i was told. also they have constantly denied following guildlines given by the organisations against them and the WHO - if they agreed to follow the plan the boycott would be lifted

https://mommyish.com/stuff/does-your-baby-deserve-her-own-nespresso-machine/ this is another thing that has gotten them under fire recently

Absolutely mortified - can't believe how ignorant I was

nestle is out of this house!

They also source some of their milk from a farm owned by Grace Mugabe. Wrong on so many levels but as a Swiss company they don't have to legally comply with sanctions laws which they think makes it ok.

I get so angry about what they've done to so many babies :(

Now I've known about this for ages and think its terrible but what I didn't realise is that Nestle are affiliated to so many other brands.

My cat eats Purina and she's fussy and it's the only food she likes :-( x

My cat eats Go Cat! Lets hope the rascal likes her change to whiskas or summat!

Also gutted i ate a Findus microwavable wrap earlier (soggy shit anyway.)

Well Im really glad I posted this. Its on 1500+ views now. If even half of the people who read it feel strongly enough to do something about it, thats still 750 households protesting nestles marketing ethics. Ladies if you, like me feel that they have done the wrong thing, then help spread the word

sorry maybe this is a OT rant...BUT

so many people are seeing this and saying they have or will boycott Nestle...

but what about Proctor and Gamble? I garuntee you all have a product in your house owned by them, and who are they? only one of the worlds biggest animal testing company, and not just on rabbits and mice, but dogs and cats too.

its not just babies that are dying because of a companies greed for profit :(

I also try to avoid cosmetic companies that have tested on animals after 1995. But if i was to avoid all companies that are unethical shopping would be an expensive and time consuming process.

Unfortunately that means we just have to pick our battles and for me babies dying hurts more than animals.

Pepsi I feel heart sorry for the animals and will always do my best to avoid companies I know of which test on animals, such as Lorel (sp). However I do agree with Dopeyjopey and we have to pick our battles as unfortunately it's not realistic to boycott everything in life otherwise we'd live in a bubble. I do still find it very sad though :hugs:

oh i understand what your both saying dont worry. im just pointing out that while people are happy o say they will boycott nestle for something they did years ago, there are stilla cts of creulty and pure evil happening this very day by other companies, an although their subjects arent human, they are living things with feelings that dont have a say on whether they get to participate or not. and considering there is hundreds of companys who DONT test on animals its a sad shame that P&G still do. and by boycotting what you can without it effecting your lifsestyle too much, you may make a difference to them too.

hope that makes sense im sleepy today.

Buying cosmetics made in the UK cuts out the animal testing as it has been illegal to test of use ingredients tested on animals in the UK since Labour changed the law shortly after coming into power in 1997. Of course if, like me, you use the minimum of cosmetics/toiletries it's easier to be more selective of what you use.

P&G own pretty much everything Nestle don't so I agree they are even harder to boycott! I don't just boycott Nestle because of the baby stuff but because of their overall lack of ethics. I also don't use Asda and Tesck because if their ethics/political stance.

It's all a good argument for buying local and fresh. For preparing your own things and using products with natural ingredients. I think in this day and age it must require a Good Life level of commitment to get anywhere near overall ethical shopping.

PB - I was under the impression that cosmetics companies still had to have 'new' ingredients tested, hence the disclaimer 'x company does not test on animals unless required by law'. Did i make that up? I have a habit of doing that at the moment! :dohh:
