I'm hoping to start weaning Dylan soon (once I have got the all clear to do so from the hospital) and I wanted to get some stuff in (food and bowls). What do you recommend?

The tommee tippee explora purple and orange coloured beaker cup  Its part of their new range I think and my LO loves it because of the rubber spout bit and it doesn't spill everywhere

Tommee Tippee essentials bowls
Tommee Tippee Magic Mat stops him knocking the bowl onto the floor
A highchair toy to keep them amused while you get food ready.
Tommee Tippee essentials weaning pots.
Heat sensor spoons (i got 10 for £2 in a toy shop lol)

Food wise.......ella's kitchen stuff is brill but pretty expensive!

I bought the birth to toddler weaning book by annabel karmel its brill for making your own food

I have Jars for back up as well and the veg ones go down well
We arn't a fan of fruity ones though here (my LO does not like apple still and most jars have apple in them lol)
Havn't tried any jars with chicken or shpehards pie etc because they have meat in them (leaving meat til 6 months even though jars say four months on them)
Also only have bought jars that are gluten free til he's 6 months lol

oohh fab thread - we are starting today eekkkkkk. (HV approved btw)

we have

- tommee tippee weaning bowl and heat spoon
- baby cubes for freezing
- we are starting with baby rice and very slowly but have built up a stock of apple/pear/sweet potato puree

I am planning on using bumbos and trays and one bowl and spoon to start but the mats and highchair toys are next on my list xx

Doidy cup, highchair, spoons. Thats all we use :D

I do have bowls/plates etc but they're useless and he prefers my plate anyway...!

Really depends on whether you're planning on doing BLW or TW? :flower: The others are answering for TW, for BLW all you really need is the high chair, some baby friendly plates and bowls if you want them, we have a rubber mat to put on the table instead. A few spoons to preload with yoghurt and cereal. Long sleeved bibs or an old baby gro they can wear backwards instead of a normal bib, keeps clothes cleaner!

Bibs & more bibs!!! My baby is so messy and my plan is to go buy more bibs today! (Bigger, thicker, cover all of her kind of ones!) She tries to feed herself... and we are tw so the spoon goes flying and by the time we are done she's got herself covered head to toe in something usually orange or green!

I really like the bowls that have 2/3 sections so I can put different puree in the same bowl. So she could have cereal in one section & green beans in the other section. Its easier for me & less bowls to wash later.

Megan doesnt use her bumbo much as she tries to get out of it... but I've tried it for mealtimes & she sits forward too much in it. Does anyone else find this? It puts lots of pressure on her tummy which isnt helpful at all when she's eating and its harder to feed her as she's not totally upright like she is in the highchair.

Megan likes bigger spoons as well - she gets mad at the little tiny spoons - so we've moved on to toddler spoons really fast.

when we started weaning i found spoons and little bowls (asda do these at great prices) and bibs were my main buys and of course food
morgan hated baby rice so we quickly switched to cow&gate creamy porridge and gradually introduced differant porridges as they have a huge range of flavours then differant foods x

My blender has been the most used and useful item! Second to that is a load of plastic pots with lids I bought out of Asda I think, 3 for a couple of quid, they are great for storing everything!
Em hated plastic spoons, so just uses a normal teaspoon, she has a few of her own bowls, but prefers to eat off what we normally use, we use her bowls now for fruit, veg, babybels that sort of thing.

the best thing we bought were those bibs with sleeves - with normal bibs he just grabs them and sucks on them between mouthfuls so all the food goes on his clothes!

I make my own food so use a blender and ice cube trays!

and a bowl, spoon and bibs!

That's pretty much all we use too. A handblender, cube trays, bibs (tons), bowls (only have 3), spoons (10) and sippee cup for water.

I just started weaning yesterday, eeeek!

I am really glad I bought the Annabel Karmel book. It makes the whole process really clear and the recipes look fab. The meal planners look great too.

So far I have got some cube trays (from Boots, £5.99 for 2), some Tommee Tippee bowls, sippy cups and spoons, and a Tommee Tippee bib.

ETA: I won a steamer on eBay the other day so that should come in handy too :) Was going to buy a Lindam mini blender but then realised that my Wizzard Pro should do the trick...just got to give it a good wash as it smells of onions and curry! lol

To quote a lady from another forum

"All I've got is a book (blw) and a bucketful of good natured hope"

Think that sums it up lol :) xx
