What do you consider a big/small house?

After looking at pics, it seems our downstairs is quite big. My hall is like the one above! x My friend has a new build 5 bed and the layout makes it seem very cramped. I think older houses sometimes tend to be a bit bigger. xx

When we were looking at houses last year, we looked at 4 bedroom new builds. They tried to cram too much in to the small amount of space they had which meant the garage was integral (losing you a room - ours is at the bottom of the garden), the lounge and dining rooms were long but not wide (ours are more square) and there was never a nice entrance hall to leave muddy boots and prams. The front doors all seemed to open up directly onto stairs!
We also found the gardens were hideously small. A big garden was quite important to us.

The house I live in is Edwardian (we think it was built around 1905) and has some real character, as well as spacious rooms.

So, it seems our house is TINY in comparison to everyone elses!

It's all about the feel...and looking at your decorated house pics, your house definitely has a lovely feel!

Do you know what I mean? Or do I sound like a proper weirdo with this feel thing? :haha:

No you don't sound like a weirdo at all, I agree! Our house might not be massive but we love it anyway. It's very "us", even though it's quite neutral we picked all the colours and the flooring etc ourselves

I bought a new house a few months ago (waiting to move in hopefully by Christmas), it's an 8 bedroom and I think it's massive but my OH set her heart on it and who can say no to a lovely lady :haha:

My Mum has a new build, four bedroom and it has a massive hallway (bigger than the photo above), a massive front room, large dining room, large kitchen, downstairs toilet/shower room, a cloakroom, four double bedrooms and a huge bathroom.

sounds lovely :) I think it depends on the plot of land and how many houses they want to build :)

We live in a 2 bed flat, it has a large front room, big enough to section off and have the dining table at one end sofas the other without it feeling cramped, a fair size kitchen, both bedrooms are large a seperate toilet and bathroom both of which are tiny, would be better knocked through as one :flower:

Its not to small for us as a family of 3 and even if we were to add to our family both rooms are big enough to put a crib/ another bed in, but not big enough for all the other stuff that comes with having a second child

Our house is small / medium I would say - 2 double bedrooms, 1 small bedroom, 1 bathroom, kitchen, living room and dining room. None of the rooms are that big but it's all nice and open and light. We're in a 1950's mid-terrace house and have a huge back garden and a front garden as well.

To me 1/2 bedroom & 1 reception room is small, 3/4 bedroom & 2 reception rooms is a average good size and a 5+ bedrooms with 4+ receptions is big.

Our flat is a 2 bedroom and 2 reception and there is 3 of us it does us, we are plnning on moving next year toa bigger place (3 bedrooms) as we want to extend our family :)

Ooops shouldn't have attempted to reply on my phone last time!

Up until I moved into my own house with my OH I think my perception was a little skewed as since I was about 13 we have always lived in pretty big houses - my mum lives in a fucking ridiculously huge 5 bedroom semi detached victorian house so in comparison mine feels tiny! but really it is the perfect amount of space for us - 2 double bedrooms, a kitchen/dining area, a fairly large living room with a big bay window and good storage space, but because there is a self-contained basement flat we don't have a garden which makes it feel a lot smaller to me.

I think the reason I am a bit anti-new builds is because I have always lived in houses with high ceilings, it feels so much more spacious to me that way.

we live in a 3bed terrace it has one tiny room but the other two are good sizes and my bathroom is huge. large living/dining room and kitchen is ok size wish was big enough for a table. i love our house its big enough for us and when new baby gets here. we have a large garden which is important to us for kids. only with had a conservatory or playroom for kids ds uses the understairs space in dining room atm

We live in a 4 bed 3 storey town house.we have 1 reception room, a kitchen diner and 3 bathrooms (one on each level). Compared to what we had before (2 bed back to back terrace) its a lot bigger but I wouldn't class it as a 'big' house but we have enough space for the 4 of us.

Ideally I'd like a 5 bed detached with more outside space, a seperate play room (technically could do this with ours now if we had a conservatory built), utility room and a big farmhouse style kitchen. I'd also like a big garage.

Mine is a new build. 3 bed (boys share) Hollie has the smallest room which is around 8x8.

Upstairs bathroom, airing cupboard and laundry cupboard. Downstairs living room, loo and kitchen/diner. My kitchen is lovely and big though I would have liked a separate dining room. 2 decent sized cupboards, one in hallway, one in living room.

My garden is pretty small though, small pathway bit of grass and a shed.

I'd say my house is pretty big, although I do find myself running out of space somehow

I've lived in a 2 bedroomed 1 bathroomed back to back terrace. That was small. Fine for a couple, or even just about a couple with 1 child, but any more than that I would have said would be pushing it. The kitchen was really tiny, and it only had 1 other room downstairs which was only the size of a regular living room, so no dining room.

Then we moved into a 3 bedroomed 1 bathroomed detached house. We had 2 kids at that point so it was just the right size for us. Living room, downstairs toilet, biggish galley kitchen, dining room, conservatory and big garden. Kids had a room each so that was perfect. Ideal size for a family of 4 I would say. Even when our third kid came along it was still fine because two of the bedrooms were massive. I have no aversion to kids sharing if there is enough space for them to do so.

Now we have 3 kids and a fourth on the way. We live in a 3 bedroomed 1 bathroomed semi. The master bedroom is big, the medium bedroom is just about okay for 2 kids (better for 1) and the third bedroom is small. Honestly it would be fine for a family of 4. We are a family of 5 and we manage but with the 6th person on the way I think we're going to be pressed for space somewhat. It's not unmanageable but it won't be ideal.

For us ideally I'd like a 5 bedroomed house so the kids could have a room each, and a downstairs toilet as well as the bathroom upstairs, but failing that even a bedroom with 3 double rooms instead of 2 doubles and a single would be nice...but I suppose it can't be helped really. Things could be a lot worse - I'm just being picky I guess.

We live in a 3 bed maisonette, with biggish lounge, kitchen and balcony and no garden!

I would happily lose some of the room we have to get a house with a garden!

this is ours!

id like 4 beds and 2 reception rooms ideally, Purley because there is 5 adults and a child living here atm and we really need more room!

I love feliexstowe!

Oh man my house looks tiny atm with the bloody tree up!

I love the size of my house. It's a 3 bedroom (master bedroom is nice and roomy, the other two are smaller), 2 bathroom, with an attached over-sized garage. The layout of the house isn't the best, and the kitchen is too open. It needs an island in the middle of it or another counter. But that's nitpicking.

The house I want is going to be accompanied by acreage. It'll be a 4 or 5 bedroom, although 2 bathrooms is plenty, I think. I'd love to have a laundry room! Anytime I think of a larger house, I think of more that I will have to clean :haha:
