What do you consider a big/small house?

Small house is under 2,000sq feet I guess? I'd say less than 3 bedrooms and 1.5/2 baths, garage & yard :flower:

Ours is a 1,000sq ft bungalow- it's tiny even though we're just 3 people- 2 bed, 1 bath.

This is a really Canadian or North American perspective! I'm from Canada and what's considered big and small houses is really, really different in the UK. We've been looking at a lot of houses over here (London) and it is rare to find a 3 or 4 bedroom house that's over 1,400-1,500 square feet (at least one that costs under £500,000 in the areas we've been looking in  :dohh:).

My parents' 4 bedroom place in Canada is about 2,200 square feet but I can never remember if that includes their finished basement or not. If it doesn't, it's probably around 3,000 square feet.

We're in the process of buying a 4 bedroom house in London, UK that's around 1,200 square feet. One bedroom is really small.

I'd say their house has much more wasted space than the one we're buying. It's also got luxuries that we don't have like a big utility room.

The one we're buying is not massive by any means but the two reception rooms are big enough to fit all our stuff in and still feel airy. We're just going to have to be careful about how much stuff we fill it with to avoid being overwhelmed. Thankfully it has a loft space to store stuff.

The basement isn't included in the square footage, only rooms above ground, so your parents' house would be huge in comparison!

Our house is just over 2000sqft but we also have a basement, (with a lounge type area, storage and we'll eventually put in a bathroom), a garage and a really large back yard. It's not huge, but it definitely has space.

Could someone please tell me what a reception room is? Is that like a family room or living room area? Sorry, the Canadian doesn't understand!:haha:

Yeah it is just a living room x

reception room is like a room that people would gather in so dining rooms/living rooms. So if you had a living room and a separate dining room that would be 2 reception rooms xx

We live in an average 3 bed semi for the area I live in. Some people would consider it 'a good size', some would consider it cozy for a forever house. I guess it depends how you have grown up. Its an average size to us but has a lot of extending potential to make it a 4-5 bed 'big' semi. x
