What do you consider a big/small house?

Our house is ickle! We live in a two bedroom cob cottage. It's absolutely stunning, wooden beams etc. But it is a little to small for us. We don't want to have to move though as the area is completely perfect. So, extension is going to have to be built. But being grade II listed we need to get on with planning permission!
I'd say a four bed is an average house with 5+ being big, but I guess it depends on room sizes etc :)

It depends on what you feel is too small or big for you, for me too small is not having enough storage space or individual bedrooms but I know for others that's too big and they love sharing bedrooms.

We have a 3 bed semi and are moving into a bigger 3 bed - 2 bath - 2 reception in 2 weeks :haha:, even though it's bigger it's still not big enough for me because I like to have more living space. We're not moving out of the next place until we're able to buy a plot of land to build our own, we're hoping to make it 4 reception rooms, 1 study, 5/6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, and that's the right size for us.

My house is deceptive... it looks small from the front, because it is a terraced, but it is quite large, well for a terraced anyways, it has 3 bedroom, the master is big, the second room is decent but the third room is what people often call a "box room" however my kitchen is large and my living room equally long, at the back of the house we have a conservatory that is as wide as the house, so u can enter it from either the kitchen or the living (iykwim) the garden is again quite big for a terraced :) enough room for a dog pen area, huge shed, decking, a patio area and there is enough room left over for a bouncey castle (if u fancied it lol)

My biggest annoyance would be the front garden, it is quite small and i would like a garage haha or a drive but it iS a terrace lol ! . Ideally i would like something listed, and with a few acres, a smallholding perhaps .

My house is big, I think. 2 bedrooms & kitchen & living room/bathroom on main floor, downstairs has 1 bedroom, 1 play room, 1 storage room, another bathroom/laundry room, and a storage room. We have a garage that is about 600 square feet with it's own bathroom and our powerlifting gym. Pool and garage. All the house rooms are small but they are there and work great.

And yet for Canada... it is considered small  Unbelievable. My OH thinks it's small. I think it's huge!

I live in a coach house, so downstairs is the hall, a random room (which is v shaped so useless) and a toilet then upstairs is the living room, which is a good size, 2 bedrooms (very big master & good sized 2nd) bathroom and the kitchen which is tiny, you can fit 2 people and cant move! I do have a garden though which is nice but i would love a house! My idea house would be 4 bed, big kitchen, conservatory & garden!

We have four double bedrooms, 3 reception rooms, kitchen, utility, bathroom, wetroom and a large playroom. We use the smallest bedroom as an office. When we bought it, it was two beds, 2 reception, i bathroom and a boxroom.

I would like a bigger kitchen as mine is a long kitchen whereas I would like a centre station. But were not moving - ever!

I live in a small 2 bed semi detached with 2 small gardens, a small living room, smallish kitchen diner, 1 bathroom, porch and conservatory.

Ideally I'd have a detached 5 bedroom house with a huge back garden, garage, 2 bathrooms, large living room, massive kitchen, separate dining room and a conservatory.

I want 5 bedrooms so there's 3 for me, oh and the kids each then two spare.

I have a 3 bed house for 2 adults 1 LO most of the time and i fits us fine. On the weekends when step sons come to stay the house is very small..... its all relative!

I don't think house size it anything to do with how many rooms.

We live in a large 2 bed. We have a living room, kitchen/diner, utility, 2 bedrooms, a large bathroom and a down stairs toilet. But I lived in a flat with the same rooms but was half the size.

However we need more bedrooms and an office so our house is on the market and we're looking for a 4/5 bed with a big garden. But so many new houses are so small! 5 beds with no storage at all:wacko: Where as I've seen 3 beds that are bigger.

A small house to me is a house with very little corridor and hall. That space is important to me. I like having a dresser in the hall. Also, I generally consider a small house to have no utility:blush: It's a vital room to me.

We live in a 2bed house. Our bedroom is huge, Alex's room is a nice size too, bathroom is tiny and so is the bath! The landing space is massive too. The kitchen is quite big with a pantry. However, the living room, even though its same size as our bedroom seems so small due to the chimney breast and our chunky sofas we cant afford to change yet.
It's a council house, the only thing I would change if I could is the bathroom! The size of the house does us nicely, even when we have another LO.

I would love to live in a nice big house, but think i'd feel lost.

Ours seems big and when we first saw it and when we first moved in there was loads of space but then baba came along and nope tiny lol.

My ideal house would have 5 bedrooms, 2 large reception rooms, an en suite in the master bedroom, a family bathroom, a downstairs loo, a big garden and a big kitchen (I hate my kitchen because it is too small and it's actually bigger than most people's I know lol. I would love a big kitchen x

Ours is a new build 3 bedroom house with ensuite, family bathroom and downstairs loo. It's about average.

Small house is under 2,000sq feet I guess? I'd say less than 3 bedrooms and 1.5/2 baths, garage & yard :flower:

Ours is a 1,000sq ft bungalow- it's tiny even though we're just 3 people- 2 bed, 1 bath.

Our house has a kitchen, living room, bathroom and four bedrooms. For me, OH and LO it is perfect size. Even if we have two more kids then it will still be a good size as there will be a bedroom each. Our kitchen isn't massive, but it's big enough. Our living room is quite big. Bathroom is average I'd say, but we don't have a bath.
Personally, I wouldn't want a huge house.. I'd be too scared as it's always big houses that you see on films which are haunted/have intruders! :haha: My ideal house would still have the four bedrooms, but have a bath in the bathroom and a bigger kitchen. I'd also like a utility room. And a big glass porch to sit in on sunny days! But I must admit I am happy with what we've got :)

I would say where I live is quite big. But in my flat maybe not that big but I have other places I store stuff and use to.

We have what I would call a big 3 bed house with 2 reception rooms. The house was once a shop and has been extended at the back so the living room is what was the living room and dining room and has been knocked through to make one large room. The dining room, downstairs bathroom and kitchen are in the extension and so is the third bedroom. Our bedroom at the front is what was two bedrooms but has been knocked into one so is pretty large and both the boys have decent sized rooms and are about the same size. I thought it would be plent big enough but with all my son's toys, our junk and clutter, baby paraphanaelia etc.. it seems smaller :haha: and lacks in storage big time! The garden is quite small and is paving and gravel - what I miss about our old house is our larrge lawned gaden. Our front 'garden' is just paving and is on a steep slope which is a nightmare with the buggy. My ideal house would have 4 bedrooms, 3 large reception rooms, a downstairs loo and a large kitchen/diner and large garden with a lawn for the kids and decking for a hot tub :haha:

This is a really Canadian or North American perspective! I'm from Canada and what's considered big and small houses is really, really different in the UK. We've been looking at a lot of houses over here (London) and it is rare to find a 3 or 4 bedroom house that's over 1,400-1,500 square feet (at least one that costs under £500,000 in the areas we've been looking in  :dohh:).

My parents' 4 bedroom place in Canada is about 2,200 square feet but I can never remember if that includes their finished basement or not. If it doesn't, it's probably around 3,000 square feet.

We're in the process of buying a 4 bedroom house in London, UK that's around 1,200 square feet. One bedroom is really small.

I'd say their house has much more wasted space than the one we're buying. It's also got luxuries that we don't have like a big utility room.

The one we're buying is not massive by any means but the two reception rooms are big enough to fit all our stuff in and still feel airy. We're just going to have to be careful about how much stuff we fill it with to avoid being overwhelmed. Thankfully it has a loft space to store stuff.

I would say a 3 bed semi with 2 reception rooms is an average sized house. This is because it's the sort of house I grew up in!
A two bed flat is probably where I'd start to say small...
Big is 4/5 beds plus.
Obviously the space in the rooms makes a difference though!

I would say mine is small, its really oddly laid out though..Its a new build 2 bed semi with huge garage and garden, tiny front room and smallish kitchen, no hall just passage then two double bedrooms but one has storage tank in so cuts size quiet a bit and a smallish bathroom. I find it so silly the size of the garden when they could have added extra house space. Id consider a big house 4 bed plus

xx
