Hi everyone!!

We are expecting a girl (due Christmas Day) and I cannot decide on a name!!! I really want something uncommon, something NOT on the top 100 list.

Names I really like so far:
Kyla
Harper (but its on top 100 list)
Monroe
Laeyla/Laela (not my name, I just think its so pretty so used it as my profile name when I made the account hehe)

I love Monroe because it is SO different. The internet says it's more of a masculine name, because of a past US president...when I think of it I think Marilyn before the president but I mainly think it's cute and different. :) Also, I am in Canada so I think most people would think of it more as a feminine (Marilyn reference) over the masculine (president).

Thoughts???

Monroe and Harper sound lovely together whichever way around you choose to use them imo. Monroe does come across as quite masculine but it's more so the spelling than the pronunciation. I automatically thought Marilyn Monroe when I read your post :) xx

Mariah Carey & Nick Cannon have a daughter named Monroe... plus Marilyn Monroe is a feminine icon... and a "Monroe piercing" is a sexy look. So to me - it's a feminine, pretty name. I like it a lot!

Layla, Harper, & Kyla are pretty too - I like them all!

Addt'l suggestions: Shiloh, Lyla, Lillia, Aria, Harlow

I do think of Marilyn Monroe when I first read it, but Monroe is still masculine to me. It's also what the blutbod (sp?) off of Grimm is called.

I think Savannah-Monroe sounds beautiful or Sienna-Monroe)

I think Monroe is lovely and I do think of it as a girls name.

Thanks for the feedback so far ladies! I have been discussing potential names with some family and friends and NOBODY likes Monroe....in fact, they hate it. LOL. I know it is up to us, but it is still frustrating to hear family members scream NO NO NO when you mention a name you love.
We are not going to be telling anyone what name we do decide on for exactly that reason but I am too excited and like opinions too...good and bad...(except bad from family members on names that are on the top of my list, haha).

I do like Lyla too! I have also added Adecyn (pronounced Addision) to the list. Hrm.

I know someone with a 2 year old called Monroe and when she was born people had the same opinion as your family, ie wtf! But now, she's the sweetest little girl and the more we've all heard the name, the more we love it. It suits her and plus, she's really cute and pretty, without meaning to sound shallow, it makes the name nicer. It's defo a grower x

I like it! I can imagine calling her Monnie or Mini-mon or something equally cutsie for a nickname.

I would strongly encourage you that if you want to use Addison, to use Addison and not Adecyn.

I never tell anyone the names we like! Nothing worse than those negative, unwanted opinions.

I like it! I think it sounds very unisex and not swayed towards one gender!

Love Monroe for a girl, very cool. Also love Layla. Its my name and people always tell me they like it

Oh I hate when people especially family members are rude about names. it's okay to say you aren't a fan without being rude!! I think Layla is lovely. I did think of Marilyn when you said Monroe actually =) I do agree about the spelling of Addison though. The other spelling reminds me of a medication lol just my opinion =)

I'll be honest the Mariah Carey connection puts me off. That said its a good match for a feminine / frilly middle name as it balances it out.

I looked after a couple that named their baby girl Monroe, I was unsure at first (although obviously didn't say so as it's not my place to), but I do think it's pretty cute, a bit too funky for me to personally use, but it's got sass ;) xx

I think it does sound pretty masculine. When I first read it I thought of the president, but since you're in Canada like you said it may not be associated that way. Definitely different though.

My first thought was the character off Grimm :haha: (Just binge watched season 3 on Amazon Prime). It seems quite masculine to me, but I also see the Marilyn Connection.
