Xanthus is actually an ancient name.

I'm sorry, but i'm not a fan

I have known one Raphael and his mom was weird and "over the top" and her kids were strange as well - so I guess that is how I associate the name! Sorry! Plus Raph is not very nice of a nickname, IMO.

Also, it's the name of a Ninja Turtle which is popular at the moment... so that may be odd.

I would suggest pairing it with a more standard middle name, if you decide to go with it:

Raphael James
Raphael William
Raphael Joseph

a classic name is best imho as it give the child more choices throughout life, you could go for a 'cool' but not to out there middle name like:
