what else before IVF

Hi Girlies,

I'm counting down the hours till my next gynea appointment and i'm terrified.
I say i'm terrified only cos it's a new gynea and the last time i saw him he told me he was the one who operated to remove one of the twins and had a picture of roo just left on the table it was horrible. He then went on to tell me i didn't ovulate - which obviously we debated over given the picture!
He told me that i would need blood tests and if i didn't O again unaided it would have to be IVF - and by my CD21 test i didn't.


I have my chart that says i did along with peaks on CBFM and positive OPKs I'm going to print these out to take to him

I had clomid last year but my old gynea didn't monitor me and on the lowest dose (50) i ended up hyperstimulated, what other treatments can he do before IVF? Can i get half dose clomid if i really need it?! or what else have you girls had?!

I'm so nervous I don't want IVF just yet as I'm not 100% sure i need it given that i fell a cycle they told me I didn't ovulate!

I am just starting this process, but I have a friend who has been through it all.....if you have fallen pregnant, wouldn't they try artifical insemination before IVF? She had fallen pregnant but unfortunately MC at 14 weeks (sorry for your loss honey). They tried again for one year and nothing so her FS did AF and she fell the second go. AI is much cheaper.

i agree with you 100% - if you fell pregnant on a month when they told you you didn't ovulate, i would be asking some questions.....I am not sure of your situation...keep me posted. and all the best.

Hmmm, is there no way you can go see another gynae? What about your GP before going? If you go to see this gynae and aren't happy you have a right to go seek a second opinion at another hospital/with another consultant (if the hospital you choose to go to has more than one consultant specialising in this area). What about Metformin - not to sure what this does and if it would be suitable but I've read about people taking it alongside Clomid. Or as you say suggest trying Clomid again but with proper monitoring. Do the NHS offer ICSI also, maybe that could be an option (not sure what your situation is re paying for this privately).

Just remember that if you're not happy it is your right as a patient to seek another opinion from someone/where else.

I'm going to go in with all this and just make him see that I did fall while told i couldn't so i need to be given a chance i'll ask for more time and more tests and maybe lower clomid or another medication to make eggs stronger and go from there.

Hi Anna
it might be worth asking about 'timed intercouse'. I did it before we discoved my dh had antibodies in his sperm, killing them off! The fs dr here in Doha had me injecting gonal f etc to stimulate ovulation, i was monitored just like ivf but instead of egg retrevial we were told when to which was 36hrs after the last injection.
If you can cope with the injections its nots as invasive as ivf!!!
