Okay I've been on first dates before, I've either just been for a drink (can't do anymore thanks to the wonder that is panic attacks), a coffee (can't do as we're only free in the evening... plus it's boring), or something silly like bowling/cinema.
It's all the more awkward because I'm only free Friday, which is Valentine's day! And it's not like a 'date' date so going for a meal is a bit meh on Valentine's, but I really like him and I don't want to cock it up by doing something really wank :/
Heelllllppp! It was so much easier when I could just drink the nerves away

My last first date we went to the cinema then to the pub for a few drinks.

Ask him what he wants to do! Then you cant be blamed if it is shit haha.

Go for a meal, but not somewhere romantic! Thinking Wagamama's or GBK or something similar.

I went bowling on my last first date, I found it less awkward than something like a meal or drinks. It did end up in a different city at a casino at 6am when I should have been in work at 8 LOL (pre preg!) I think the less planned the better just go with the flow. Good luck x

Yeh I would do something silly like bowling or crazy golf. I think when you go to the cinema there is no time to speak, you just have to sit there in silence then after its nirmally time to head home x

The advantage of doing something like bowling is it's more friendly than romantic so less awkward (esp on valentines!) Plus stuff like awful bowling shoes are a good conversation ice breaker if you're nervous :haha:

Good luck lovey, sure you will be fine.

I was worried on my first date with my now hubby-buy we just clicked and the conversation flowed well.

Definitely no cinema, as you can't get to know him or talk for a few hours and no real communication.

I like the bowling idea-something to focus on if you get nervous.

Have a nice time :)

My last first date we went to a comedy night in a cafe bar then for a walk along the marina, which was really nice, quite casual.

Good luck :) xx

My last date I went on we just went to Nandos  We didn't want it to be too serious or anything since it was the first time meeting up, just kinda like friends meeting up. Second date we did the same (cause we both love Nandos ) but then went to a gig after :D

Going on a fun date will make it less awkward..mini golf, arcade, etc. it'll loosen you up and you can just be yourselves and have fun

Active dates are so much fun. Everyone lets loose and you're not just stuck watching a movie and not really interacting. I second the arcade idea! My fiance and I did the typical dinner/drinks for our first date then took a big chance and went on a 1.5hr drive out of town to tour some wineries by ourselves on our second date! When we were able to spend over 8 hours together in a car driving all over the place, we knew we had something special going on :) But we went to an arcade not long after we started dating and it was so much fun. Batting cages, team games, head to head games... we had such a blast! They say you build a better bond when you're doing a fun activity, too :)

My first date my husband took me to Anfield to watch Man Utd lose to Liverpool. He didn't talk much on the way home and yes I still married him!!

If I was going on a first date now (fantasy scene coming up :winkwink:) we'd go to a cafe bar, where you can have coffee if you'd like, or a glass of wine. There's a place in the town centre here that looks like a perfect first date venue to me; big comfy sofas, gorgeous coffee, cocktails!! tapas and lovely scrummy cakes. There's a big fire and it's very rustic but relaxed. Quite studenty but not too much. I love it in there (no idea what it's called lol) but we never get to go now cos a rare night out is usually to the cinema to see something we've been desperate to see.

Have fun whatever you do  x

For our first date we went bowling and then to an Italian place for lunch. Then we went to the pictures. It was a lovely day :)

All this talk about dates makes me want to go on one with hubby lol

Ice skating is really nice this time of year if you have an outdoor rink anywhere near? Kinda breaks the ice(excuse the pun) cause chances are one of you isnt any good!

On our first date we went for a drive, listened to music in the car and talked a lot, it was really nice  (I should point out we had known each other for years, in the same group of friends would not recommend this for a date with someone you hardly know or just met:kiss:)
We drove for hours just talking I think oh didn't drop me home until 3am and that's cause he had work next day. Our second date was the next night, I went over to his and we watched the first three Indiana jones films :D

Thanks for these! Some great suggestions :D

FayDanielle I was totally thinking a comedy night would be ideal, but he's a stand-up comedian and knows the scene here pretty well apparently so we'd probably just be watching his mates

I think something fun is a good idea though. I love the sound of going the arcade :D

Oh god I only ever go for drinks on a first date. I think cinema first dates are weird and I would find going to a restaurant a bit too formal! Can't go wrong with sitting in a good cosy heated smoking area, getting pissed on wine and chatting crap. I'm such a great date :haha:

My ex took me to the zoo on our first date which was lovely actually. I went to a hip hop gig in the summer for a first date too, that was quite a good setting.
