What to say and what not to say?

Hi ladies just wanted some pointers as to what to say/do to make a good first impression.
A relative gave birth about a month ago 3 months early.

Know the whole thing was obviously emotional turmoil so would like to lift her spirits as much as possible and not put foot in it!
