When a line isn't a line - the HPT hall of shame

lol wow i learn alot from you ladies and im sorry you guys have gone through alot...i have never had any problems like this i didnt even know about pink dye n blue dye and some are sensitive then others lol i never paid attention to that. but i hope i dont have to experience any of this

good luck to everyone and lots of baby dust for our end of 2011 2012 babies

:dust::dust::dust::dust:

My general plan with testing is a bunch of internet cheapies so I can test every day and watch the line get darker. That way when I can see the line getting stronger every day I know the only thing that can do that is rising hormone levels. Followed by a digi after a few days of darkening lines.

Its what I did with LO. The first BFP was very faint and could have been an evap or a BFP, it was hard to tell really. I didn't really get excited for the first 2 days of testing and instead of thinking "I am pregnant" I was thinking "I could be pregnant". Much better for the mental health that way.

Wow - some of those false positives are beyond belief. I'd never have thought it of Superdrug, although I did know about clearblue and sainsburys.

I complained massively about them. I sent Sainsburys the one my hubby used (which has a thick blue line) with a complaint letter and they responded that it could have been down to misuse - er, damn right it's misuse, my HUSBAND did it. I'm still waiting to hear back from them.

They friggin suck! I wish there was at least just ONE reliable pregnancy test! It's like you have to go the doc in the end anyway to confirm it so why even buy HPT's anymore. And you know what really sucks? even digitals can give false readings and I don't just mean false negative cuz of testing too soon, I'm talking false positives. Yup, some have gotten a YES or a PREGNANT on a digital and they weren't even pregnant. Don't ask me how these things happen, they just do. Think about it, it's computerized so anything can go wrong! Blah.

Oh my. That would have to be the worst. Seeing a line is bad enough but actually seeing the word "PREGNANT" when you're not - that has to hurt.

I've had a few bad tests in the past :( one i got told was a chemical pregnancy! the others were evaps :( I only trust blood test!

when i test and get a positive, I pee on all the rest of the tests i have...that way if they all look the same, I know I am still prego..and then I go buy a digi:)

Can I add my gripes about CB here too.
Posted these 'false positives' a wee while ago. I've now used 10 CB tests with 8 false positives. Complained to CB & their first letter said it was because the test was over-saturated (big hairy b*ll&cks). They are now asserting it must have been a chemical pregnancy & would need quantitative blood tests to prove otherwise! Of course the NHS has funds to do such unnecessary blood tests.

Also had false pos's on Sainsbury's blue +/- tests. And it's the only test if you "double-dip" you can make a negative test, positive (useless fact!)

BTW for all the UK ladies PLEASE report any false positives to the MHRA - it's really easy, you just out a form online at www.mhra.gov.uk & at least then they can withdraw these tests or investigate further if there are repeated problems with a test (as we all know there are - so lets let them know!).

Exactly. It hasn't happened to me but I'm scared it will one day :( I honestly think the HPT's from back in the day were a lot more reliable than today's HPT's. Remember the ones our mom's used that looked like liquid in a glass? if the color changed it meant you were pregnant. Man, they should out with those again lol.

OMGosh! Those are evaps?????????????? no....just no...I would've really believed those were positives. I'm sorry you hadda go through that!

S'not right is it? Luckily I double & triple check and all were negative so there was no getting too excited. But they're pretty awful & so think they need to re-think these tests.

Darling I had those EXACT results. As for them fobbing you off.....grrr.

They tried that with me to start with. Then I wrote to them again, explaining exactly how I was going post each of my false positives complete with information about how I completed the test on my very popular blog (well I have a blog but it's not popular). Result? A refund of the cost of the tests I bought from them, a refund for the cost of the FRER's I bought thinking I was pregnant, and 20 digital pregnancy tests free of charge (which I probably wont use now anyway). I wasn't after freebies but unless they get hit in the wallet they won't stop doing this. I'd complain again if I were you, those are outrageous.

Thanks Kates84,
I will def try that approach! They offered a refund for one packet!!!! Tight arsed gits. I am going to continue complaining & have asked for £50 back to cover various costs - pretty cheap given I've spent at least that on their tests. Grrrr.

I can't believe some of these tests. It's awful! Big love out to those who had to read them.

I have to say I've never had a false positive. (Nor a healthy positive, either). x

These are the Amazon One Step tests too - they're pretty flimsy & if the cover for the dipping end comes loose, you get these "moving" positive lines from the dye run.....
A v good reason for "gazing" at your tests as they develop!
