when can babies face out in their carriers?

I just watered all the gardens with LO happily forward facing in her sling (like I posted above) I guess she never feels the need to retreat or whatever, she is a happy little helper carried that way. It took and hour and 1/2 to water and she was happy the whole time, she reaches for the water as it comes out of the hose, and squeals happily. We live in the middle of no where and there is no stimulation other than birds, squirrels and deer, so I guess that's why it works for us. I have also carried her this way while shopping 2 times and she is just fine though. I guess it really is about seeing what your baby prefers, and what you're both comfortable with.

As others have mentioned, you don't ever really want to face your baby all the forward for more than a few minutes. I mean, we do it occasionally in the house when we're just playing around, but even then I position her forward in the wrap with her knees above her butt so that she's in a good position. It's really uncomfortable for me though.

When going out, if she's wide awake and curious about things, I do a hip carry or a high double hammock. She can see everything just fine, but can also retreat inwards if she's overstimulated.

yes, ive been wondering about this. LO used to love the Ergo now she absolutely hates it :nope: now when we go out its constantly cycling from holding her facing out til my arms die, then facing me til she naps/kicks off, then into the buggy, then up, then facing out, then buggy. repeat. ugh. I miss the days of just popping her into the carrier and being golden til feed time. i have a ring sling but its collecting dust - i found it uncomfortable and way too hot. maybe ill have to try it again with a hip carry.

Just want to say there is a differnce between kangaroo carry in a wrap/sling and facing forward/dangling forward in a mainstream structured carrier (I really hate the term 'crotch dangler' I find it offensive). The issue is moreso the front dangling than facing out.

My DD was like that as well with the Ergo at 3 months. I read that a lot of babies go through a stage around 3 months where they start wanting to look around at everything. This is also when I invested in a woven wrap so she could see better. :flower:
