I tried 2 oz of formula at 4 3/4 months and baby had bloody diapers.

She will not drink the hypoallergenic kinds. It would really help me out if I could start to supplement the breast feeding.

Could I try regular formula again (something like good start, with partially broken down protein?) now at 6 1/2 months?

My eldest was 2 in April and is still intolerant, sorry :-(

We saw a dietitan last week and she said most grow out of it by 1 some take longer and up until the age of 2 and some never grow out of it.

My sons on neocate and ive been told to cont with that until 1 then its my choice if I decide to try him then with it or wait longer x

My son is 3 and still has it aswell. It differs per child when they grow out of it.

Well, not quite the answer of 6 months I was looking for! I can not get my baby to touch hypoallergenic formula and I would love to supplement at this point for times I don't want to NIP. Oh well. Back to the pump I go!

Holly was around 16 months, but her intolerance was enough to warrant her being on AA based formula. The doctors and dietician recommended we tried her with dairy at age 1, and I tried her every month. 16 months was the first time she didn't get a reaction.

15.5 months (last week!) was the magic time for us. She is now completely on dairy.

Have you tried EBM mixed with the hypo-allergenic formula? We always had trouble getting LO to switch whenever we had to make changes and we had to mix. Like 2oz of formula and 4oz of EMB (just an example) and gradually increase the amount of formula. It was the only way we could do it.

She still won't touch it. The only thing that works a little bit is to put some banana cereal in the bottle and heat it up very well. If she is starving she will drink 1 - 2 oz, but it takes an hour.

She loved regular formula, but the one time I gave her 2 oz, she had bloody diapers for 10 days.

Okay so if you are trying to get your baby started on the hypoallergenic formula and they won't take it, you can try adding a small drop of vanilla essence into the bottle for the first few days to get them semi-used to the different taste of the formula. Lets face it, they arent stupid and that formula is not nice tasting. Then once you have him or her drinking it, (hopefully) Stop adding the vanilla essence and hopefully they may stick to it.
Good luck

Make sure it's alcohol free vanilla essence though! I have heard Drs recommend milkshake powder or a small amount of dissolved brown sugar too.

My lo has just about outgrown it now and he is 1.

Maybe its not a rejection of the hypo formula but that it is not bm. A baby will drink something if you only offer that to them, they will eventually take it. Seems to me that she just want to bf though?

I have given up the formula idea. She loves breastfeeding and I just committed myself to pumping a bunch so I have plenty of bottles for a little freedom and no NIP anymore. But thanks so much and if I do end up trying again I will take all the suggestions!
