When should you stop breast-feeding? - Dr Miriam Stoppard column

FFS! My Mum gets the Mirror and just rang me to tell me how my baby should be transitioning off the breast! Thanks Mirror >.<

Get your mum to read the same article online....and the currently 237 comments all contradicting, questioning, or criticising the information given. However pro-doctor-advice she is, 237 people with an opposing opinion can't be wrong!!

Does anyone know what she's a doctor of? What a stupid article. No facts what so ever just based on her opinion.

I think she is a dermatologist.... make of that what you will!

I think my mum is a lost cause, she is already going on about "moving on" to follow on milk all the time. I'm just going to keep doing my own thing but I wish things like this didn't exist. It's misleading. My mum isn't stupid and if she buys into it lots of people will :(

Such a load of crap! So one child gets their first tooth at a year, they bf until then? But my children at four months should've stopped?
And saying comparing letting your child choose when to wean with going to nursery. Moron.

What a load of crap! Completely irresponsible writing such an article.

I feel your pain. I talk to my grandmother a lot more than my mother, but my grandmother believes everything she reads. She even believes everything out of the obviously fake magazines, like the onion. Not kidding! She actually told me to start feeding my little guy puree's already because she read about it somewhere recently, which could be any time within the last 30 years for her.

When a lot of people see the Dr. title they automatically assume that what they're saying is truth, because they're supposed to be well educated. Problem is, a lot of them practice with extreme opinions themselves regardless of whether research backs it or not. I have a few friends who are doctors that I've grown up with, and they're going through their residency's right now. As smart as they are, they definitely make some really dumb decisions and have very interesting opinions that are personal. It carries into their work, sadly. :dohh:

She doesn't know what she's talking about, bet she's never breastfed!

All these so-called 'experts' don't have a clue, if anyone's heard of Clare Byam-Cook I read an article recently & she was spouting about how 1 in 3 women don't produce enough milk & that it's better to top up with formula than let a breastfed baby go hungry. What a load of rubbish.

lol I've just come onto this forum to see if anyone read this article. I only saw it yesterday but I have complained to the editor of the mirror as I think its completely irresponsible journalism what with the WHO guidelines being misquoted, and the plethora of incorrect information throughout. If anyone else would like to do the same the email address of the editor is [email protected]

Nathan got his first teeth at two months. Probably a tad early to be weaning! This article Is rubbish.
