Where were you when your waters broke..

As the title says really,

Where were you?
How long before/after did contractions start?
How long was your labour? (from waters breaking/contractions starting to baby actually born)

dd1
1 - In bed
2 - Probably around 18hrs
3 - dd1 was born by EMCS 3 days after waters breaking (she was an undiagnosed breech, we found out at 9cm!)

dd2
1 - during labour, had them broken in hospital
2 - already having contractions
3 - total labour was 3hrs

dd3
1-during labour
2 already having them
3 - total of 1hr30mins

dd4
1- middle of the night (got up for a wee and they broke when going back to bed!)
2 - straight away (though I do think i was having a few mild inconsistent ones before hand)
3 - 1hr26mins, unplanned home-birth

I slept with a folded towel under the sheet for the last month of pregnancy.
I have a vax carpet washer with attachment hose, was a God send in the clear up operation. You'd never know what happened anywhere in my house :)

Ds. They broke while they examined me in hospital. Baby born 7.5 hours later.

Dd. Midwife broke them after been stuck at 7cm for 4 hours. Baby born 7.5 hours later.

Only just noticed that both babies were born 7.5 hours after waters broke, however with ds I was 3cm when they broke with dd I was 7cm.

In bed.

I was already having contractions..irregular ones.

Waters broke at 3am thursday. Baby born 2pm friday. Yes long labour. I wasnt in "established" labour until friday morning. Contractions were bearable until then. I say i was established but i wasnt really dilating until a frw hrs before gettin to pushin stage.

In bed at home
I'd already been having regular contractions for 24 hours and they we're getting very strong. I'd said to myself I'll do one more contraction before I wake DH to go to hospital am it was on that one that waters went!
That was at half past midnight, lo was born 5:17 so less than 5 hours later

They broke at 8pm and I was at home. There was no gush just a trickle and I wasn't contracting. Contractions started at 2am (or at least that's when they woke me) they were very mild at first. 10am they started getting stronger. Lo born at 4pm about an hour after getting to the hospital after 30 minutes of pushing.

You can get maternity pads to cover the mattress and sofa with.

Lying in the labour ward at 7cm dialated and they broke them for me. Jumped to 9cm and got rushed for an EMCS as my daughter was stuck (large neck goitre) and waters were full of meuconium.
Got to 7cm with my second and they weren't broken. I had a section with him and assume they were done in theatre

With my 2 my waters went a number of hours before anything else happened. With DD they broke at 37 weeks when i was getting into the shower, so easily leaned up off the bathroom floor. Contractions didn't start until 14 hours later and I was in labour for 5 hours. With DS they went at 39 1/2 weeks. I'd been having contractions on and off for about a week before-hand. I was lying on the sofa and felt the urge to go to the toilet - I kinda knew it was my waters going, and they broke on the toilet. Contractions started around 4 hours later, and DS was born around 6 hours later.

I bought some maternity pads from the chemist and put them under my sheets to protect the bed.

Was in labour about 15 hours, midwife broke my waters in the birthing pool,.she arrived couple of hours later xx

Waters broke 5am in my living room. I'd just gotten out of the bath (had woken up with awful sciatic pain) and was walking back to bed. Contractions didn't start after 12 hours so I was induced and had him 15 hours after that.

I was in bed just about to go to sleep. Contractions started pretty much immediately. Thick and fast. My entire labour was 8 hours.

As I was running to the toilet (at home, kept feeling like I need to poo sorry tmi!)

I'd been having contractions for about 4.5 hours before they broke.... Lo was born about 40 minutes after they broke! X

I was having contractions for 13 hours and my doctor broke them in the hospital when I got there (I was 5cm dilated). She was born 5 hours later.

Mine went in the birthing pool about 15 minutes before he was born. I had to push to break them and it hurt so much I thought the baby had come (in my gas and air deluded state!). I heard the midwife say 'there go the waters' and I thought to myself 'dammit - thought that was the baby!'

My labour was 42 hours from first contraction to baby arriving. Contraction woke me up at 3am, 15 mins apart and were strong enough to stop me sleeping. They were agony 24 hours later but it was another 10 hours before I got any pain relief!

with DD in the hospital, they broke my waters
with DS at 35 weeks on a playground after I picked up all 40 pounds of DD who managed to pee herself on a slide.

My waters originally broke at 14+6. I was in ASDA at the time. It was very painful, it felt like something has snapped inside me. I had no contractions and after a lot of scans, medical care and bed rest they rehealed sometime between 20-24 weeks.

Then they broke again at 40+3 whilst I was pushing (in hospital). I'd already been in early labour for days by this point but established labour was around 6 hours. I pushed for 57 minutes so somewhere in that time they broke and then Thomas was born.

ETA: I also had a back to back labour.

Mine didn't!

LO was born in his waters... Contractions started about 11pm, by 7am they were bad so went into hosp (was 5cm) and he was born at 2:15pm. I had 9 mins pushing recorded on my notes however it felt like 9 hours!! (LO was also back to back)

Waters broke whilst laying in bed. I half woke up thinking I need to clear my throat but somethings going to fall out. Cleared my throat. And my waters broke :dohh: managed to get to toilet very quickly so none went on the bed *phew*
That was 00.30 and contrations started at 1.40 went into hosp at 6.30 and started pushing at 19.40 then at 22.30 They decided I couldnt get him out so had spinal and had the cut and forceps to turn ds and I finally pushed him out at 23.46. That was thursday 30th and since the friday previous I was getting contractions coming n going but thats not classed as "real labor" but my god would take my breath away and wake me from sleep :dohh:

Waters were artificially broken at the hospital. I was being induced...I wasn't in active labor yet but breaking the waters sent me straight into active labor. 6hrs from breaking waters to dd being born.

DS1: Water broke around 6am in bed. Contractions started about 30 minutes later, and they started at 5 minutes apart. Labor was 10 hours from time water broke to him being born.

DS2: Water broke at 10am as I was walking into my house, returning from running errands. Contractions started about 30 minutes later, started at 5 minutes apart, but progressed very fast. Labor was 2 1/2 hours from time of water breaking to him being born.

For the mattress: I bought a waterproof mattress cover because I was really paranoid about it breaking in bed, which I am so glad I did since it DID break in bed with DS1. It completely protected the mattress, none leaked through.

For the sofa: I sat on several folded towels just in case. Our sofas were still new, so I was paranoid aobut that too.

I sat on medical chucks in the car and my chair at work during the last month of pregnancy. I wouldn't have bothered sitting on them at work if it were just my chair, but I shared the chair with another shift worker and would hate to have ruined it for her...lol.

ETA: Reading this back, I think I was def overparanoid about waters breaking on anything I sat on! LOL!

1st time broken at 6cm when 8 days over.
2nd time they broke as he came out at 10days over.
