before 39 weeks now?

I have just had a call from my mw (wow thats a first) as I had asked her questions regarding my planned section and the timings and the sizing of bubbs she plotted on my graph thing in my notes

She said that they dont do the before 39 weeks now as a general rule, I had my first at 37 weeks and 2nd at 38.

This is good in a way as it means it will not be planned for when oh's son is here from Holland and not interfering with that (I will be 37 weeks) but I am soooooooo impatient I just want my baby. Ive never been 39 weeks pregnant before. I wonder what that feels like

I also had concerns over size of bubbs as I was measuring wayyyy off scale and she said not to worry too much as the way the measure etc isnt at all accurate and shouldn't be taken into account

So why do it then? Ive been worried for 2 weeks since last seeing her and now shes saying theres nothing in it?????:shrug::shrug::shrug:

I think a lot of places unless there may be major problems dont tend to do them before 39 weeks now as it allows baby longer in the tummy to mature etc.

xx

yea, so that baby is FULL full term, if u get me...i think...

Thats a reasonable reason then lol. Im just gutted now as I am fed up and was hoping they would do me at 36 weeks so oh's son would get to meet his sister before going back home (only here for a week) and we dont see him very often so she could be 6 months old or more before they meet :(

Aww that is a shame but I think 36 weeks would be way too early for them to do a planned unless there are problems with the baby or if you go into labour before your elective c section date then they would take you in as an 'emergency' section but it wouldnt really be an emergency so to speak. Lol. xx

yeah I thought it would be but as I am showing a big baby I didnt know whether that would sway it but mw blew that theory clean out the water aswell. I guess I shall just have to get some patience from somewhere then.

39 weeks it is then and that falls bang on halloween. well they can sod off if they think I am going under the knife that day!!! lol

At least this way I have more chance of going into labour which would be kind of nice as I never have before and wouldnt mind knowing what it feels like

Lol. Awww a halloween baby!!! I am hoping I dont go into labour before, fx'd I dont as it is my first. xx

or a devil child lol

A friend of mine had her last baby on halloween and I kid you not, though he is now a lovely almost 8 year old for the first 5 years he was awful. I called him Damien on more than one occassion lol. Id rather wait a few more days if thats the case and have a firework baby :)

Lol. I am glad ours is due earlier as I dont want her to be the same star sign as MIL!! She would just love that!!!!!!! :D

xx

hHAHA Thats funny :) i would quite like a halloween baby haha, but PLEASE no because that would mean being well overdue :( yea 36weeks would be very early wouldnt it, time will fly :) dont panick :D xxx

I couldnt actually believe what my consultant told me about it.....

I've been booked in previously at 40 weeks and gone into labour resulting in emergencies both times at 38 weeks, so my midwife reccommened that they book me at 37 this time just to be safe.

My consultant told me he wouldnt do that but has compromised and is doing mine at 38.

He said they like to leave it as close to the due date normally as the hospital get an extra £1000 for every emergency c secton they do, so the closer they book women in to their due dates, the higher the chance of them going into labour before and it turning into an emergency, meaning they get more money!!! Bad or what!

That is absolutely flippin shocking!!!!!!!!!! How can they put mum and babys health at risk by doing that because surely it is riskier when emergency?!!!!!!!!

No way!!!!1 If thats true that is absolutely outrageous. That is putting lives at risk for the sake of a few pounds.

Well me and my baby are worth me than £1000.

I shall make sure I give my consultant a bloody good grilling next Tuesday and if I think thats the reason for the late section I shall raise merry bloody hell there and then. Its disgusting that the hospitals have to resort to this just to get extra bloody finances in!!!!:growlmad::growlmad::growlmad:

Do emergency c sections cost the hospital more than elective ones then?

Just because a baby is big doesn't mean it is developmentally ready to be born. Plenty of big babies end up in the nicu because their lungs were not ready. There is a huge amount of brain development that happens between 36 weeks and 40. This is important for breathing and sucking coordination. So if a baby hadn't made that developmental milestone, then it could have some major problem. They are no longer doing inductions or c-sections before 39 weeks in many hospitals here in the US and immediately the rate of babies going to nicu has fallen.

I was surprised to see this change as well. With my other three I was always told up to 2 weeks before the due date. This time, I was hoping to go for a day or two before 39 weeks, and they wouldn't do it, they said I HAD to be at least 39 weeks...and the soonest i could get puts me at 39w4d.

I was told that they don't do it before 39 weeks because they want to make sure the baby is in there as long as possible. I agree it is good, but admit that going that close to my due date makes me really nervous about going into labor on my own (which could be problematic for me with all the scar tissue I have- I worry about uterine rupture or an emergency c-section).

Your baby has a lower chance of ending up in the nicu at 39 weeks. All the hospitals here have agreed on no elective inductions or c-sections before 39 weeks.

Agree - my son was born at just before 36 weeks and he was full term size, but he needed help with feeding (suck/swallow not coordinated), low blood sugar, and jaundice.
He ended up totally fine in a short time, but I would rather deliver closer to my dates than 4 weeks early again. And at that point a week makes such a difference! x

so what happens if I go into natural labour then? Will I have to have an emergency section and for that will I be knocked out and is it any different to planned.

I really dont want this as I want to be awake and have my oh with me and whether this has changed or not I dont know but when i went in for my others they said if I had to have emergency he couldnt come with me and then there's not meeting baby straight away.

mw rang to put my mind at rest and I actually feel worse this morning :( though part of me would still like to go into labour as I have never done that before

chances are even if you went into labour they would still have time for a spinal block or epidural to be done so you would be awake its only when they have to "crash" section someone they use GA and that is when there is immediate risk to maternal or baby's health. most " emergancy " sections arent really emergancy ones they just werent Planned ones
