why aren't c sections done

If you're having a csection then it doesn't matter so much about the babys size cos you don't need to get his head through your pelvis
As for the timing thing, I guess they try and get it as close to EDD as possible. Minimises the risks of low birth weights and problems that come alongside it.

I couldnt actually believe what my consultant told me about it.....

I've been booked in previously at 40 weeks and gone into labour resulting in emergencies both times at 38 weeks, so my midwife reccommened that they book me at 37 this time just to be safe.

My consultant told me he wouldnt do that but has compromised and is doing mine at 38.

He said they like to leave it as close to the due date normally as the hospital get an extra £1000 for every emergency c secton they do, so the closer they book women in to their due dates, the higher the chance of them going into labour before and it turning into an emergency, meaning they get more money!!! Bad or what!

Wonder where he got that from If anything it would cost the hospital more. Is it NHS?

so what happens if I go into natural labour then? Will I have to have an emergency section and for that will I be knocked out and is it any different to planned.

I really dont want this as I want to be awake and have my oh with me and whether this has changed or not I dont know but when i went in for my others they said if I had to have emergency he couldnt come with me and then there's not meeting baby straight away.

No, I wouldn't imagine so. It wouldnt be a proper emergency, just a planned section that wasnt planned IYKWIM? GA sections are when they need to get baby out NOW, mainly due to their heartbeat dipping and not picking back up.
