I got off the depo in August of 2011, after being on it for about 9 months. My cycle went back to normal almost instantly. I've also always had a predictable period, almost down to the hr and nothing out of the ordinary ever happens. Well in April of 2013 my boyfriend and I decided to start TTC, tracking ovulation and whatnot, and we have yet to have ANY luck. Its very frustrating because I psych myself and think I have pregnancy symptoms every month, for the past 4 months :( this month has been different though. My nipples have been rock hard(sorry) , I had more milky white mucus discharge than normal, No STD or infection was detected at the doc, peeing almost every 30 mins (not exactly) and felt nauseated a few times. He smokes cigarettes but other than that, we're pretty healty. Another thing that was odd to me was the gurgling and cramping on my lower tummy. It feels like I might have gas but it doesn't hurt and I can feel it very vividly lol . my period in November was very odd because 2 days after it ended, I continued to spot for 3 more days but it was brown and very light. My period this month was very normal tho. We had sex every other day , thru ovulation, until... Well until this morning lol. So now I guess just wanna know if any one else with complications have any thing similar? Or maybe give us some advice. I know they say if you try for a year with no luck then something's wrong so I'm very scared of infertility. Thanks a bunch in advance !

The first thing a specialist will say is for him to stop smoking

Hiya

I am in the same situation as you, in regards to the depo.

I missed my appointment for my depo in April 2011 and we have been TTC ever since, with no joy.

My cycle took a few months to kick back in but for the past 8 months I have had 30-33 day cycles, ovulating on day 8-9 (according to my Clearblue tests)

OH went to the docs and we have just got the results of his sperm test and everything is fine and good.

I presuming its the depo still in my system and Im nearly 2 years clear!

Its starting to get me down, as we got married in Vegas on Xmas eve and I just want to complete our household now.

I hope that you get your BFP very soon as I understand how frustrating it is :)

Congrats and thank you ! Sending tons of baby dust to you guys :dust:

We also started ttc in April after dh had his vasectomy reversed. He smokes too but takes 2000mg vit c daily as its an anti oxidant and according to studies can protect sperm from the effects of cigarette chemicals. Despite his smoking and vr he had a good sa just 9 weeks after his op. We are still trying tho and I have to admit im getting fed up of bfn after bfn so I feel ur frustration. Good luck and I hope ur not trying much longervx

You are right that lots of people smoke (and even drink) and still have babies. And healthy babies as well! What you need to consider though is that smoking can cause abnormal sperm which can lead to an early miscarriage. So why risk going through that? Plus, if you guys are ready to have a baby, why not see it as a chance and motivation to quit? I know that having a baby seems like a distant dream to you know, but this baby will come and you don't won't to increase the risk of SID by living close to a smoker.

Don't get me wrong, both me and DH were smokers, but decided to quit when the time came for us to TTC. I know it is not easy and it takes lots of effort so your boyfriend will need your support.

I have to say that we were lucky and I got pregnant within 2 months of trying, but maybe the things we did helped:
-DH took ginseng tablets. They help sperm mobility.
-I started prenatal vitamins early on and DH took a B complex multivitamin (we are vegetarian, so we took supplements anyway)
-We ate honey with royal jelly in it and I also ate bee pollen.
-I drank red raspberry leaf tea up until ovulation and nettle tea till the end of my cycle.

Hope some of it helps :)
Best of luck!

Yes he should quit smoking. You already know this. You can't make a person do that though. And yes you're right, lots of smokers get pregnant and lets of men who smoke get women pregnant, so it can happen, but it's not helping you right now. I'd ask him to quit and leave it at that.

I'm right there with you. Trying for 4 months now and nothing. We are totally healthy, regular cycles, I ovulate according to my charts, neither of us smoke or drink very much, we both work out. Basically, we should be pregnant easily....you'd think. Everyone says "give it at least a year." Cause "that's normal". Doesn't feel normal though.
If you are over 35, you can go ask for a fertility appointment now cause it's been over 6 months. Get the basic testing done. If you're under 35, they will probably tell you to keep trying for a full year before doing any testing. It's frustrating. After only 4 months, I'm max frustrated. Cannot imagine what it will be like after 6 months or a year or longer. What can you do? Just keep trying. I guess we can be thankful for regular cycles and general health, that should be some advantage.

Hi there, I was on the depot injection for a while and my periods totally disappeared for years after. It is so strong, you might still have it in your system... I saw specialists and gyno drs.... The depot really messes with ur system. Good luck xxxx

I agree it does mess up your cycles. I bled non stop, I was lucky if I had a week of no flow in the year I was having them. Having said that I did manage to conceive my dd just 6 months after my final shot so I guess its different for everyone.

Yes you are right that lots of people smoke and have babies.
But I'm a size 12-14 and because of my size have trouble conceiving and really irregular periods. And then I see women twice my size having babies no problems :/

I didn't realize for some time (until I had an ectopic) that my tube was blocked. If you are confident of your timing each month, have a healthy luteal phase, and his sperm count is healthy you can have a hsg dye test done and they can check your tubes. I would say to chart your bbt but you sound pretty confident you are ovulating each month and whatnot. I thought I was every month but I was actually having breakthrough bleeding many months that came right when af was supposed to and lasted the same amount of time because I wasn't actually ovulating... very frustrating! Sometimes it just takes time but in the meanwhile you might want to read Taking Charge of Your Fertility..great book and informative.

Hi yes many men smoke i have 2 sons both of there dads smoked cigarettes we planned my oldest and his dad drank raw egg to help his sperm i concieved that month.i'm trying for number 3 now i have heard lady pinkham helps when you are trying i researched every ingredient it's a lot of vitamins and things to help your blood flow to your uterus and thicken it.you can take guaifensin to help your cm thin out.and a baby aspirin to help with implantation so i would try some of these if not all before thinking you are not able to conceive

Sorry to hear that. Fortunately everything went back to normal for me the samr month i missed my shot. I tracked myself for a while, then luckily, my aunt who has medical experience told me everything was back on gear. Hopefully things get better for you

We're in our lower 20's, but he just start smoking May of 2012 but he threw his last pack out in exchange for a nicotine free vapor stick. He's also very athletic and said since using the vapor stick he does feel healthier :)

^^ it takes 3 months for sperm to regenerate so it will take that long for the sluggish smoky sperm to be out of his system
