Why does ebay do this?

I tried to list an item as buy it now but with an auction option only. When the item appeared on the website the buy it now option wasn't there but it was there when I tried to edit it. I actually lost money because I think someone would've bought it now but there wasn't much interest in the auction if you get me. Today I have tried to buy something and the seller is having the same problem. We can't work out how I will buy it without the buy it now option. I don't want to wait for the auction as this is something I really want for my sons bedroom that is now out of stock... So why does ebay do this? Is it just a blip? I also wanted to send the seller my
Email address and it wouldn't let me!

You can buy it by getting the seller to end listing and invoice you through paypal. It wont have the same protection (i dont think) as through ebay but you will still be covered through paypal.
