why?

OMG I'm so shocked hun. 18 months is nothing to laugh at. We have been trying for 27 months now and it has been absolute hell.
I'm also overweight. BMI is 35 and I need to get it to 30 to be put on the IVF list, but being overweight didn't stop my GP referring me and DH for tests and as it turns out we both have a problem.
Make sure you make a complaint about that awful nurse and best of luck with everything.

Thank you Helen :) yeh I will be complaining, I'm quite thick skinned but I hope she doesnt say anything like that to anyone else!

Good luck with losing the weight for IVF, praying for you :) xxxx

Hi Tabby. Thanks for your good wishes. Let me know how you get on when you make another appointment - hopefully the GP wil refer you and you can get all your tests done. If you need any support/encouragement/advice to help you lose weight, message me. I know it's really hard I've only just got back on track after christmas!! Anyway, I am here to help if you need me xx

That's so cruel! Awful! I have to say, the NHS are real sticklers when it comes to weight issues. When I went for my fertility appointment, the first thing they did was weigh me. I asked the nurse why and she said being overweight is the biggest known factor in infertility 'so keep off those cookies'. WTF? I'm a size 10! Anyway, she said infertility is directly linked to being overweight but the funny thing is, all the people I know who haven't had problems getting preggo are my friends who are a little larger (and bloody gorgeous!). Those who have are sizes 8/10 so kinda doesn't make sense to me. So can't see how it can be true. Though one friend who did have problems was overweight and as soon as she lost a coupla stone, she got preggo. Anyway, this TTC business is so soul-destroying sometimes. Chin up petal! x

Loose weight is the first thing i was told by one my GP and the Fertility Department before they even did any tests. They use the " Loose weight for everything" I think they should change the record.
Weight gets blamed for everything, shouldnt stop you getting referred though. I was told IVF is a big no unless your BMI is under 30.
I got my BMI to 30 with the help of Metformin. Stay positivie.

Oh My word .. I cant believe the cheek of this woman .. You need to complain immediatly a health propfessional shouldn't be so insensitive and Rude.

As for not running the tests because your overweight, thats complete poppycock !! I have been pretty much overweight all my life and when we started TTC 5 and a half years ago I was told to wait the obligatory 12 months and then I had every test imaginable with no mention of my weight being made .. it was only when I was told that I would need IVF that I was told to loose weight.

If I was you id go back and see a different doctor, as Rachelle1975 states if you do have PCOS then this can play a huge part in your weight.

Good Luck :hugs:

Good luck -I'm sure a GP will be more sympathetic. Such blimin cheek - well done for holding your temper and not walloping her!
