Morning all...

Wonder if you can give me your opinions on the name Winnie for a girl. We aren't keen on the longer versions of the name so this would be it...

Do you automatically think 'the pooh'?!

I prefer the spelling, Wynnie but not sure if she'd always be frustrated because people would always spell it with an I - what do you think??

Thanks in advance ladies!

yeah im sorry i do.. i started humming winnie the pooh instantly..

i think winnie is a cute name, soon as i read it i thought about winnie from wonder years not winne the poo

I didn't think of Winnie the Pooh...I thought of my great grandma - Winifred

it made me think of the name winifred and the film "hocus pocus" lol as the whitch i like the best is winnie! :)

xx

the first thing I thought was 'winnie witch' dunno why lol, It could be cute but then it could be seen as old.

I thought Winifred. Then, when I read you're not keen on longer versions, I thought Pooh. Personally I'd rethink it and see if you can't find a longer version that you do like. I don't think Winnie works very well for a grown woman, with friends maybe but not for first introductions, work life etc.

I thought of Winnifred, then i thought of a character on angel called winnifred that shortened her name to Fred! I love Fred for a girl, but wouldnt call an actual child winnifred!

I went to school with a girl called Winnie. She HATED it, and changed it to Jessica before she moved to Ireland for uni!

It didn't make me think of Winnie the Pooh, it made me think of my Nan who was also Winifred :)

It actually reminded me of a teen film, i think it was bring it on?? there was a girl called winnie in that.

my grannie's name was winnie and she and my mum didn't get on at all, so it would be a no from me I'm afraid. Mum used to call her Winnie Witch. not to her face, obviously!

I really like 'granny' names for babies but I think some (eg Edie, Elsie, Ruby) work better than others. My personal favourite is Mabel.

I called my pet Guinea pig Binny, But somehow I ended up calling him Winnie as a nickname. It's such a cute name.
