winter babies - sleeping

Sorry to worry you all ladies! I just thought if i was thinking about it, i'm sure others are. Some good ideas, i'll defo be getting a thermometer. I too am the same, i'm always cold, hubbys always warm so i think we will just have to keep room temp that is suitable for baby. I'm thinking for baby to wear a baby grow, swaddle and then have an extra blanket if need be. But mostly try and control room temp.

Thanks for asking the question, I had this on my mind too being a first time mum X

(DH asked me the same question, and how did we know if they were too warm, and I had no idea, had it on my "to do" list of things to learn about)

We had a sleeping bag suitable for a newborn. My DD was born in Germany in November so already freezing, she would sleep in a vest, sleepsuit and her sleeping back.

This baby is due in UK september so no idea about clothes but im trying a swaddling blanket this time :) x

There are plenty of guides out there for sleeping bags and for blankets, based on your room temperature.

Don't go mad with blankets though, and ideally don't put them to bed with a hat on.

I'm glad this thread was posted actually.
My DS was born in March, so it was starting to get a little warmer. This time round, I'm due in October, and honestly haven't the foggiest idea on what I do at night! I'm thinking vest + babygrow and blankets, but I don't know! Didn't use a sleeping bag with my DS so don't really know a lot about them.

Trust me it'll be fine. I had no clue when I had my daughter but it's amazing how your mother instinct kicks in and you just seems to 'know' things. I feel a bit clueless when it comes to other peoples kids but mine I'm fine with. My daughter was born in January, I had her in vest and sleep suit and blankets. When she was a bit older we switched to sleeping bag. You can usually tell is baby is warm or cold by feeling them and room thermometer is a good idea too. I've got a glo egg for this time.

I was just looking at these grobags, and noticed they don't have arms, doesn't these means there arms can get cold?

I am a first time mum with pretty much no idea what I'm doing :haha: but I have to say I feel a lot less anxious having a winter baby than I do having a summer one - at least we can just add layers, right?

I've bought some grobags and long sleeved vests, so hopefully that stops his little arms getting cold. If I think grobags aren't really working (or he's too small to go into them straight away), I have lots of different blankets and sleepsuits and I'll just hopefully experiment until I feel he's at the 'right' temperature. I have a room temperature egg in his nursery that I will put in our room to begin with (since he'll be there the first 6 months) and just monitor as we go.

It's quite warm in our flat & as we'll be co-sleeping I think it will just be a best, footed sleepsuit & winter tog sleeping bag x

If they're wearing a sleep suit they'll be fine. I sleep with my arms out the covers anyways lol. Also scratch mitts are a good idea when they're small as they do tend to scratch their faces otherwise and they keep their little hands warm too
