Wipes...

So I am looking at embarking on a little fun project hoping that it will eventually become a viable business opportunity.
At the moment Im looking at starting with wipes, small, simple and not too time consuming to make each one. I am looking to make them for myself at first so am looking at what I like first but just have a few q's for those that use reusable wipes if you dont mind?
Sizes I am looking at 15cmx15cm and 25cmx25cm OR 25cmx20cm (from the fabric cuts Ive made and looked at Im starting to prefer the 20x25) Whatya think?

Fabrics:
OBV/cotton velour/fleece/cotton jersey fabric
bamboo towelling/cotton towelling

so there would be two sides to each wipe with one side being bamboo towelling or cotton towelling and the other being one of the top choices. Would that cover the bases for everyones preferences?

Dyes
I am really looking at specialising in the OBV backed wipes and doing them in a variety of colours, only a handful at first eg pink, blue, green, orange but having a tie dye effect or two shades and doing a scrumpled effect dye pattern (this is a skill Ive not yet learnt but I am ordering fabric and dyes to practise on wipes Im making for myself!)
Am I the only nutter who wants super pretty wipes like this?

Im only thinking of it as I cant find exactly what I want in a wipe anywhere. They are too small or the wrong fabric or very boring or all of the above!
Long way of actually making anything to sell but am I crackers?

Sounds like a good idea... me and oh had this coversation earlier!! Im thinking about making some myself... Theres some gorgeous pul fabric on ebay im thinking of using that and then either toweling or fleece on other side.... It all sounds good to me except i cant sew!!!

Sounds awesome i LOVE pretty wipes and my best ones are just plain white soooo boring!! Would be fab to get some colours in

I've been umming and ahhing over splashing out on some prettier wipes...the cheeky wipes are fab but just soooo boring! If you do sell I would like to buy please!

It sounds great to me Squish. I love the idea of funky dyed ones.

My favourite wipes for wee are bamboo velour on one side and fleece on the other. I actually like them to be quite small, about 10x15cm. For poo, I like something better to scrub with, so terry on one side and fleece on the other for a polish to finish!!! I like them to be a bit bigger, about 13x18cm. I don't like them to be much bigger though cos I'd rather use a fresh wipe than keep folding them. Washable wipes saves me a fortune - I use about 15 disposable wipes for poo but it doesn't matter with cloth ones so I don't feel guilty.

Are you sure you need PUL? I've never heard of waterproof wipes.

like i said in my post yesterday i am making small wipes for wee's with bamboo velour one side and fleece the other then big wipes for poo with terry one side and fleece the other

You dont need it ut if one side is waterproof i wont get wee or poo on my hands!! It makes sence in my head!!

erin, i'd make a 2 sided wipe rather than pul on one side

Lol, sounds expensive to me! Fleece is pretty water resistant... might be a cheaper way to do it than PUL.

ive got some wipes that the nappy lady gave me, they are really really soft and fluffy i done know what material it is tho , and i bought some which are rerry on one side and fleece on the other and its just not the same

so invest in fluffy stuff

I started wizzing up some washable wipes on my new sewing machine today

So far Ive got fleecey blue moo cows print and red and blue fishy print ones done with soft cotton towelling on the other side

I'm really impressed with myself, even DH likes them!!

I'll have to take some piccies....

mmm minkee and bamboo...I like the size of cheeky wipes as they fold nicely to fit in my wipes warmer and the scrubby-ness of them is good, however in a hard water area and without a tumble dryer I envision hard wipes on the horizon...booo...
