Just a quick one.

The Hip Organic milk, do you keep it in the fridge.

I have been making it up in the afternoon for Oscar to take to creche the next day, but I have knoticed a ring forming on the bottle. Was wondering if the milk is effected being organic and all....

What do you think? Is it going off? or Am I paranoid? They wont nmake bottles fresh in the creche :dohh:

I also use HiPP and think it goes off fairly quickly. I'd say after a couple of hours its no good. Haven't made mine up in advance though so can't say about that but I put a bottle that she half finished in the fridge and intended to use it within an hour but she was asleep for ages and when i remembered it and went to pour it away about 4hrs later there was like a skin on the top of it. hope this helps!

yeah I have knoticed this too.

I did a little test today, I poured a fresh one and smelt it next to an old one....they smelled the same

confused

hmmm...not sure then. Maybe just stick with the old 'after 2 hours throw it away' advice that is on the box. Better to be safe than sorry. Can you not use a powder dispenser and get someone at nursery to mix it fresh?

Hun I used HIPP for a couple of days and she was BAD ...I went back to Cow & Gate.

Can you not make up the waters and the powder to the dispensers - surely they would do that? Its not hard! I've never really done the making full bottle up only now and then whem lil miss was every 3 hours and I'd never make a bach more than every 12 hours so if your doig them the night before for the next day I'm not sure ...I would do some a night for that night first morning one then make the next lot for the rest of day etc ...if you get me?

x

I know nothing about Hipp milk (sorry) but it's very unlikely to have gone off so quickly if it's kept in the fridge, especially if it smells the same as it did when it was freshly made. It's probably just separated out a bit - breast milk is the same and you get a ring round the top of the bottle. When it's warmed up and swirled around does the ring disappear? x

yeah the ring does disapear, but he is being sicky and his poo is foul.

I think I will change to cow and gate. Oscar has cow and gate for night night milk and he loves it.

I dont wanna use SMA again, made him constipated.

Maybe I should make up his bottles in the morning, I could get up half hour earlier adn do it. will have to start getting up early week after next anyway, back on clinical practice and will start shifts at 7am  scarey  where has the time gone?!?!?

:hugs: thanks girls :hugs:

p.s. sorry I'm not around as much, things have been manic with writing essays, Oscar in creche, getting ready for the christening this Sunday and starting back at uni
Miss you guys :hugs:

We miss you too! :hugs: I'm impressed you have any time to get on at all with all you're doing! Hope the christening goes well on Sunday x

What about the pre-made cartons whist hes at nursery? :D

The ring is probably just where the powder seperates slightly or the fat floating to the top.

Although I have only been recommending to make up fresh bottles on this forum as that's what's recommended (didn't wanna teach the new mums our naughty shortcuts) I do usually make Toby's bottles up the night before or all at once in the morning and (touch wood) he's never had a tummy upset. I use cooled boiled water, add powder, replace teat and lid and shake before cooling completely and quickly in a jug of cold, iced water and then pop straight into fridge and of course they're kept in the fridge until I use it.
I take it out give it a good shake (unscrew and remove the top but with teat etc) and microwave for about 35secs for a 6-7oz bottle before replacing the top.
I've never noticed a "ring" as such but it's Hipp Organic Follow-On that I'm using. I can't imagine that it would go off if cooled quickly and stored in the fridge (at the correct temperature) for up to 24 hours:dohh: as the make bottles up fresh rule is fairly new and the formula is the same as it was previously when the rule was make up and store in fridge for 24hours.

good point, I may get some, at least then I know it definatly wont go off.

:D

Thanks girls x

yeah this is what I was doing, exactly the same with the SMA and never had any problems. Its the follow-on I am using too. Maybe I am just being paranoid.
Oscar has had a cold too, maybe thats it
I know that if he wasnt happy with the taste there in no way he would drink it, he's very head strong about his grub

Oh I tell you something I was told ...Never put bottles made up (even if just water) in the door of the fridge apparantly it shoul dbe aroun dthe middle shelf. :D (Tha was my HV btw)

That's sooooooooooo correct

Mine are in the middle at the back where there's less temperature change. next to the fridge thermometer from Lakeland to be doubly sure....am I paranoid?

I've found out why the Organic milk can seperate slightly. It's coz other milk contains unnessassary "stabilisers" (additives basically). Just shake the milk before serving....which obviously we do anyway.
