Work are stressing me out!!!

Everyone posting is totally right, she is in the wrong. You are paid to have time off for appointments and she can talk to you about it tomorrow as much as she wants but she cannot do anything about it. She cannot sack you. Go to HR and get it sorted as soon as possible, I would also ask a close work friend to sit in on the meeting tomorrow as support for you.

Don't get worried or stressed out hun, look after yourself and the baby. Your work would have one hell of a legal case on their hands if anything other that a chat came from this

Completely agree with everyone.

I take it she has no kids and thinks of herself as being super awesome and important.

Ask her to put in writing her concerns....

You got the law on your side. She sounds very bitter to me!

Would it be better for her if you came back on time, and then having to go back 1-2 weeks later? That would be yet an other appointment. Sigh, people like that...

What your work is doing is against the law your allowed time off for Mat appointments whether work are happy or not.

Thanks again everyone!

Stargazer are you a social worker?

I would have also thought she would appreciate me doing it all in one day rather than taking time off again next week but I think she thought that she would be able to get away with it being a/l or unpaid next week therefore it wouldnt have mattered so much!

Arrgghhh she is very frustrating. She has no kids and although it isnt the be all end all I dont think it gives her very much understanding.

i work in payroll and you are entitled by law to attend any antenatal appointment which are required when u are pregnant, with pay.

i agree with what one reply said. advise her that you do not wish to discuss it verbally but ask her to put all her concerns in writing and you will get back to her. u will find she will back down because what she is doing is illegal and she just wants to intimidate you not get herself or her company involved in a legal issue.

most inportantly, stay calm. xo

I would print out and bring with you to the meeting all the legal documentation supporting that your prenatal appts are necessary and should be treated without any type of discrimination or fear of being punished by work to take necessary steps for your baby's health. To go against those laws would be considered harassment and she could be jeopardizing her own career by antagonizing yours.

She's a bitch. Slap her with the law.

It amazes me that in 2011 there are still bosses out there that think the law doesn't apply to their business. Idiot.

What a horrible woman!!! By law no matter what sort of company you work for you are entitled to time off irrespective of how long your appointments take!! Can u go higher than her?? That's unacceptable considering you needed to be scanned again to get all right measurements for baby!! I'd complain about her!! Hope it gets sorte for u babe xx

Haha dont be scared I'm not a stalker and thought I remembered you mentioning it in another thread. I work in the same field of work.

Thanks everyone. I like the idea of asking her to put her concerns in writing. I bet she wouldnt as her concerns are bloody illegal!

Do you work for a local authority? Or private sector?

I'm LA and my manager couldn't be more understanding....I'm so lucky.

Private, well board of managers. That's good you have understanding bosses, I think that makes a world of difference. Mine couldnt be any more different.

I am also a Social Worker in a LA child and family team and I am off just now with preeclampsia. My work couldn't be more undertsanding if they tried. Infact my senior said it is her job to make sure my child is alright and she advises that I dont return until after LO arrives.

I can't believe your manager is treating you this way. Stand your ground hun....the law protects pregnant women. Can you get a copy of your Local Authority's maternity policy? It will clearly state within that document what you are and arent entitled to.

Good luck for tomorrow and keep us informed of how u get on :hugs: xx

Point her in this direction ...

Yes, get it in writing, great idea, and get a witness to sit in on any discussions!
Im new to my job, had time off for a scan and then had to return the next day as they couldnt get a measurement, felt awkward as Im new, but they couldnt have been more accomodating!
She sounds like a right bitch!
Print off all the legal rights you have and give her it 'as you are sure it's just that she must not realise your rights' lol

hmmmm I think that if I was you I'd be off to speak to your GP to discuss work related stress and it's effect on your pregnancy...........

I know that's on my horizon if things continue how they have been where I work!

You are definitely not being unreasonable. She better get her act together as she doesn't have a leg to stand on. Speak to hr about her and let them know she is causing you unnecessary stress and you can't predict what pregnancy appointments will arise you can't live in fear of her response to your ante natal needs. I am confident if you raise this now it will get sorted out. Let us know if you do x

What a horrible woman. My workplace will only pay for the appointment time only - no travel time, so i will lose out but there is nothing i can do (i dont think), so i have had to arrange most of my appointments on my normal days off. This can't be done all the time though.

You can't be disciplined or sacked for the amount of time you have off due to appointments, and she's stupid and selfish for expecting you to wait weeks for the other scan. As if pregnancy isnt stressful enough!

If she continues to have a go at you about it, then complain about her. It seems like bullying to me!
