Hi

This is my first post, and I really didn't want it to be about worrk but unfortunately it is.

I've only just discovered that i'm pregnant, my calculations are about 7 weeks. I've been so happy all week but so worried about work too. I'm currently 3/4 through a traineeship in such a pressured, stressful job. I'm not sure when to tell work that i'm expecting, also will this ive them grounds not to offer me a position when i qualify? i think my due date is just after my qualification date so i would probably have to miss the last few weeks of my course for maternity leave.

Can someone please advise me on what i can do, and hopefully stop me worrying any more. I'm scared i'm going to make myself ill with worry and that's obviously not what i want.

Thanks in advance

i would go in and exlain everything not only will this be a weight off your shoulders but if the job is stressfull the people you work with will know not to push you, can you not defer the training till after bubs is here??
pregnancy is not a valid reason to be turned down for a position or job but you have to prove that this is why you where turned down.
good luck and keep us posted

Hi

I've spoken to work. It seems that as i'm on a fixed term contract that expires more or less the same time that mybaby is due that i probably won't be able to complete the course. We agreed that timewise i should be able to get all the work done but it's so stressful as it is, that worries me about doing it when pregnant.
My line manager did come up with some other potential options to keep me employed there but in a completely different position.

I was wondering though, could i leave my job and still get maternity pay or would i lose all rights to anything? Bearing in mind i wouldn't be returning to work there again.

you will be able to claim for MA if you are not employed your job prioe to mat leave.

Maternity Allowance
What is it?
Maternity Allowance may be available to help you take time off to have your baby. You must not be entitled to Statutory Maternity Pay from any employer. You must also have been a registered self-employed person or have been employed in at least 26 weeks out of the 66 week period running into the week before the week your baby is due.

You should claim as soon as you can after you have been pregnant for 26 weeks. If you delay, you may lose benefit. There are a number of conditions that you need to meet in order to claim maternity benefit.

What are the benefit rates?
Standard rate: £123.06 or 90% of your average gross weekly earnings if this is less than £123.06.
