I hate spending money on wrapping paper that's only going to get ripped up and has to go in the garbage after... lol.

I dont know if im honest, part of me loves it the other part hates it

You could use tinfoil, i saw them do that on Gavin & Stacey once

I love it, as I think it's quite kitsch and you can get some lovely ribbons.

However, I'd probably only just the fashion and style pages.

I think if I do it I would try to find pages with not many pictures, or at least black and white pictures, to keep the "wrapping paper" just black and white, and not distract from the ribbons & bows? Not sure. My mom might buy me wrapping paper cause she thinks I'm broke if I do this

I think big picture would be best, overlapping. You could make some very funky designs doing this!

These are dresses made from newspaper, and what I mean is on the right :)

I love this!!!!

I don't actually buy newpapers though so mine would have to be wrapped in the freebie advertiser we get on the weekend lol

Last year I wrapped the gifts we gave in brown parcel paper tied with either cotton string or ribbons so that all the wrappings could be re-used or recycled easily and everyone commented on how much they liked the theme and I even got a few gifts on my birthday with the ribbon/paper reused and returned  I think I got about 15-20m of brown paper for about £2 from WHS smith and the string and ribbon I had hoarded at home. I have been know to go to other peoples birthdays and if they throw gift bags/wrapping paper/ribbons away I take them out of the trash to take home and re-use.

Cheapskate or environmentally conscious?

I regularly use plain brown kraft paper thats about 99p a roll, then funk it up a bit with ribbon

Noooo u cant use newspaper tasha!!! Thats tight!!! It'd cost u more buying a stack of ribbons!

LOL newspaper is free, we have subscription, lol.. the fabric store has ribbon on sale here for 99 cents, and wrapping paper costs like $5 a roll.. plus tape that works and is actually see-through

Maybe Elyse's presents will get the newspaper and for other people who will know enough to call me cheap, they can have wrapping paper? haha.

Yeah I saw that episode of Project Runway! I think they made a dress out of like post its too on another season.. :)

It might give the present opener dirty fingers from the newsprint.

I also hate buying wrapping paper and usually use tissue paper and ribbons so both can be reused or at least go into a box for kids' play. I also like the idea of these:

I don't think it's cheap at all. It looks quite clever and cute to me. I rarely buy paper. I usually use and re-use gift bags, or I go for unbleached craft paper with funky yarn remnants for a ribbon.

One year I did plain old brown package paper and used real ribbon, made gift tags and stuck on little wooden xmas trees, it all looked fab!

It did end up costing a hell of alot more that normal wrapping paper though! I got carried away with all the little add ons!

I think it's fab sort of! Very cute!

My mom did a year with brown wrap and then used rubber stamps to put things that each person liked on their wrapping paper. My dad's packages had horses stamped on it. Mine had cats. My aunt's had angels. Etc, etc, etc! My dad (who is an artist anyway) used plain white paper for my mom one year and took to drawing his own representations of her favorite character (Maxine) on it. It was fab!

This is Maxine:

I think it's a good idea!
Better for the environment too! Here in Cobourg wrapping paper has to go in the TRASH, they don't recycling it!
So you're saving yourself some moolah, and re-using and recycling!

Go for it! :)

My sister got my nieces and nephews a big roll of newspaper (that hadnt been printed on yet) and let them draw all over it, it was 4 euros for a huge roll and everyone had their own little scribbley drawings with their presents!

I actually think it looks quite neat!! Agree, with newspapers the ink might get everywhere, but it's a cool idea!!
