Would you take baby to a barbecue?

As long as you're not planning on barbecuing the baby, I can't honestly see what the problem is.

The only thing I'd be a bit concerned about is not giving LO any charred bits, but if you check everything you give him he should be fine. Maybe make some fish for him in a foil wrap? That'll be nice and soft and you're not likely to burn it at all.

It's tradition in my family to have large BBQ's and the kid's always come. It's not as if you're in an enclosed area where the smoke has nowhere to ventilate and I am sure you'd be sitting a good distance away from the grill anyways. It gives kid's the chance to socialize and for friend's and family to visit them. A BBQ is always fun for everyone.

There are plenty of meats and sides you can serve to a baby at a BBQ. There's chicken, pulled pork, small bits of hotdogs (very very very very tiny bits), pieces of meat from a rib bone, hamburger, etc. As far as the sides your options are limitless. You can do sweet potatoes, regular potatoes, steamed veggies, rice, bread/rolls/biscuits/cornbread, beans, potato salad, mac and cheese, hush puppies, pasta salad, deviled eggs, etc.

I think your baby will love both the food and seeing everyone. Don't let a rude stranger ruin your plans for the day hun. :hugs:

Yes, I definitely would. I'd just stay out of the way of smoke

Rather annoying or what! Get out there enjoy yourselves and keep the socializing going! You will know if something's not right and adapt if ness!

I think your butcher is a bit of a plonker! ;-) I suspect it is a blw thing, but honestly it doesn't suprise me, when questioning my own health visitor on blw I was told it was something they dot support and recommended to do my own research (which obviously I already have), if hv don't support it, it's no wonder a lot of other people and question/disapprove it! I think people believe its the latest fad, however I know other mums who it has worked amazingly for so I will certainly be doing it with my dd...

Hope your lo enjoyed his first barbie!!! :-)

I thought the thread was going to be about if you should take your lo or not and I was going to say Oh no have a drink lol!

The UK system amazes me when I read stuff like this on BnB, there is no consistency between counties! When I did my first time parenting course in Cambridgeshire, the weaning section was entirely based in baby led weaning - with NO advice on giving pureed foods. I even have a booklet called Baby Led Weaning
And AngelofTroy - I hope you had a lovely BBQ and LO very much enjoyed it. Your butcher sounds like a complete idiot :nope: xxx

This was the same with me in the UK. My hv came round and had a half hour chat with me about pureeing (even though she knew I had previously pureed for my eldest son so knew what I was doing). When she finally finished I told her I wasn't making pureed and what information did she have on blw? She just said 'I can't talk to you about that as its not recommended). Lol.

Human beings evolved around campfires. It's not like you're going to hold your baby over a flame. Go enjoy your BBQ.

It's really bizarre, more than half our weaning talk from the HVs was on BLW and even the bit about TW was very much about how there is no need to puree if you wait for 6 months, just roughly mash with a fork etc

I would have no problems taking my lo to a BBQ and we did with our lo when he was around your Los age. I would just ignore and have a lovely BBQ! Don't know if you live in the uk, but if you do we so earley get lovely weather we need to make the most of the sun when it makes a rare appearance lol!! :-D

I would have been furious. Seriously I would have given that man a large piece of my mind, how f*****g rude. Honestly, I'm fuming here haha.

Haha yes we are in Bristol and exactly! It's been a beautiful weekend but back to rain by tonight apparently!

It's crazy isn't it! Surely as health professionals they should be advised on all fors of weaning?! It wasn't even that that annoyed me so much - but she also stated that blw was for breastfed babies anyhow so as I am not breastfeeding it is something I def should not be doing! Que bf guilt from those that are there to support! Maybe her statement was true - I don't know, haven't researched that bit yet... But until I do blw is for us!

My point is that, if it isn't the normal with health visitors (those that are suppose to be one of our first points of contact for all things baby (although I would rather do my own research these days) then how are those that haven't been in touch with it before suppose to see it as safe - so honestly don't take offence to what he said - if you don't know about something it's easy to look down at it

Xx

We had a BBQ on Saturday and took LO! Obviously kept her away from the smoke, but it was fine and she had a great time.. She had a few bites out of our burgers etc, but then had some chicken which she gagged on and then spewed :dohh:

My health visitor told me off for feeding purees and not doing BLW and I''m in the UK. She was disgusted I wasn't doing BLW.
