when I was preg with my first child, now 9, I was told NOT to eat peanuts, now after being preg with #4 last year I was told i SHOULD eat peanuts?!? 
They change their mind so often it can be very confusing.
All 4 of my boys have been weaned at different times and when I felt they needed it.
My youngest was 10lb 6 &1/2
when he was born and was on huge bottles, so at around 4mths we started on baby rice and mashed up rusk mixed with milk.
It depends on the baby and you as a mother, theres no right or wrong I dont believe.
