So, Im worried... I had my our 1st u/s at 7wks and found out we were having twins (we dont even know twins by association for wow! what a shock but exciting blessing for us!) Everything seemed good- both babies had hbs in the 130s (baby a was 138 and baby b was 134). I was worried about vanishing twin, so they sent me for another u/s... I had another u/s at 10wks (this past Sat)- the twins, from what we were told, looked and seemed good- their hbs were now 160 something (is that jump normal from 130 something to 160 in 3wks?) and they definitely grew.

Anyways, that is not what worried me, yesterday my doc's office called and explained that they noticed cervical shortening from my last u/s from 3wks ago. Im worried bc yes, google sucks (nothing uplifting on there for cervical shortening esp w twins) and I didnt feel like I got that much comfort from the doc's office. I mean they are great and told me not to worry but easier said than done. They didnt tell me the difference from 3wks ago (then, again, I didnt ask). They wanted me to see an h/r u/s which was already scheduled for my 1st check (bc of the twins) for the 24th (so, 11 days from now... which my doc said would be ok, didnt need to get one asap). I didnt wanna wait that long so I tried to move it up but I guess, the 1st check cannot be before Im 13wks which would be around the 21st so close enough the 24th. Im just concerned, scared etc. Anyone know anything about this shortening (esp w/ twins)?

Update: I was 4.9cm at my 7wk u/s and I was 3 at my 10wk u/s... spoke to the doc's office since my posting.

Have you had any procedures done to your cervix (like a LEEP/cone biopsy)? Have you had any injuries or trauma to the cervix? Like a traumatic previous birth, multiple miscarriages/abortions etc?

Incompetent Cervix doesn't usually crop up until around 16 weeks when the baby starts putting on weight, but since you're carrying twins it's plausible it's just surfacing early. I would ask for a second opinion and be proactive about this. If you were to get a cerclage, it would do great things for it to be placed when you're 3cm than if it was any shorter. IC with twins is a little bit different than with singletons though as it isn't exceptionally uncommon and a lot of mommies carry twins to full term without a cerclage. Good luck!!

No, I have no history of anything w/ my cervix. I had one healthy childbirth 12yrs ago (yep, had my daughter young, I was 21) and now, these 2 tiny tots when Im 33.

I appreciate your positive comments! The plan currently is to continue w/ the high risk u/s on the 24th and have it looked at (I had to have a h/r u/s anyways per my doc bc of the twins) so at 13wks (only 10 more days of waiting), we will do that and go from there. My doc said that if the stitch is recommended at that pt, they usually do it around 13-14wks, so that would probably happen right away. Just hoping and praying all will be ok!

I did hear that the pressure from the twins, might have started the shortening sooner but the doc also told me that it can be any reason including mismeasuring, my bladder (although I emptied that before the u/s)- anything really. I feel alittle better today... but its comes in goes w/ my nerves.

Were you measured transvaginally or abdominally? That can make a pretty big difference. Measurements abdominally of the cervix are not nearly as accurate as a transvaginal measurement.

Didn't want to read and run, but I wanted to wish you the very best! I hope either it was a mis-measure and everything is perfectly fine, or that they'll give you a stitch and you'll be good until full term. Fx :hugs:

No one ever tell us the stresses that come with pregnancy. Everyone focuses on how life changes with a baby. Pregnancy is stressful. Take care of yourself.

Oh yeah, and my sister and I are 12 years apart and have the BEST relationship in the world. I love our age gap!!

I appreciate that so much!! :hugs: Im starting to feel alittle better about this as time goes by and more support comes in. I can just wait and see what happens on the 24th (sadly, Im not a patient person). Apparently w/ pregnancy, you have to be :-) When I had my daughter so long ago, nothing really phased me as I was much younger and computers hardly existed :-)

Im an only child so thankfully, my daughter will have 2 little ones to have and the twins will have each other... its really a blessing.

Hey dmreid! Have you checked out the Incompetent Cervix - stitch/cerclage - threatened labour thread? They are wonderful and have great advice!! Have they talked to you about a cerclage?

I lucked out :-) When I went yesterday for my high risk u/s- they confirmed that I was not "short"... I think my doc was good at telling me not to get upset but I was just upset initially hearing that something "might" be happening but so far so good.

That is great!! If you have any issues with your cervix later on I do suggest that thread :) They helped me a lot my last pregnancy!

I have actually moved on to worrying about high risk issues involved w/ identical twins... like twin to twin transfusion... nothing I can do. I am being watched alot now, all is good currently- just hoping and praying for everything to be a-OK, cervix included.
