I've read that this is normal but I was just wondering if anyone else is already short of breath? I always heard women talking about it later in their pregnancies but never this early! I barely have a belly but I'm already having to pause more while walking, standing, or even just talking sometimes. Wasn't expecting it this soon!

From what I've read it's due to hormones and your body adjusting to the increase in oxygen/amount of blood it has to pump. Then later it gets worse as your organs are being pushed up.

Whew! Glad I'm not the only one...I will be 16 weeks on Sunday and I have to talk a lot at work to customers and things and give tours and I've noticed when I'm giving a tour and talking I get out of breath a lot quicker than usual. It sorta freaked me out and thought something was wrong as I used to run 3 miles a day and hardly be out of breath prior to being pregnant! But from what I have read I guess it is normal.

I had it today. It's awful and then I panic from it (have anxiety issues anyway) which makes it all the worse!

DH and I took a short, 20 minute walk the other day and I had to stop twice to rest. This coming from someone who would do 2.5 hour bike rides several times a week prepregnancy. Pathetic!

Yes!! 14weeks and I feel very out of breath. At first I thought it was because I put on a few pounds-

not sure if exercise will help this?

Yes! Stairs are an enemy now and I've even been getting out of breath while doing the dishes. Very sad. Lol.

So glad that other people are sharing in the joys of this! ;)

oh yes i get out of breath for everything, that's why i don't get on top anymore when :sex: hahahaha  let DH do all the work....but stairs are my worst enemy too...

I get winded alot, particularly when I'm trying to get into my car (it's a Sunfire, so I have to climb down into it). I huff and puff like I weigh 500 pounds and yet my belly isn't even that big yet. Makes me feel really out of shape when I can't even walk 15 feet to my car without getting out of breath.

me toooo!! and so tired! I get out of breath just doing the dishes and a bit of housework, like making the bed, vacuuming etc!!:/ feel so unfit!

I said this to my midwife and she said to drink more fluids through the day. She explained why but I really can't remember what she said!

I feel the same- have done for the last week or so. I was quite physically fit before pregnancy although a bit overweight but now going up the stairs or walking short distances feels like the london marathon!! Oh dear, its all down hill from here!! xx

Me too.. I just thought it was because I'd put weight on, I wasn't expecting shortness of breath until I was much bigger....

Dont forget even though baby is down the bottom still all your organs have been pushed up and your lungs cant take as much breath as they used to =]

Yeah thats true Gems, I hadn't thought of that! My poor poor organs! x

I have noticed this since early on. Sometimes If I walk up stairs or anything I get out of breath, not sure why it happened so early but I am used to it now

Yea it only gets worse I get out of breath doing the house work ect goin up the stairs walking my son the min walk to school! Crazy stuff!!!! I hate it it the worst feeling not been able to breath properly x

Just read online that breathlessness can be due to hormonal changes as well apparently! x

Ditto! Sooo glad to know it's not just the few extra kgs. I didn't know what was wrong with me!

Im a plus size lady and have been out of breath a little since about 16 weeks too. Walking back from the shops, picking the kids up from school etc. I have to ask OH to slow down or stop so I can rest. Its awful and hoovering the stairs nearly killed me !!!

:(
