2 and a half and won't go sleep on his own *Update page 5*

oh have just seen your breakthrough! congrats!!!!

:yipee: awww at your oh though, he'll soon have another wee one to cuddle but well done Charlie:)

We did it!!!!!!!!! :happydance::happydance::happydance: I think it finally hit home with DH that we have 2 LO's now, and he made the breakthrough himself on Wednesday!!:happydance::happydance:

I'd come out of hospital Wednesday lunch, and obviously by evening, we were both shattered. So, normal routine, except that I was feeding Ben when DH first laid down with Charlie. That is what did it - Charlie just wouldn't settle. He kept pointing at Ben saying stuff like "Ben's milk", "Ben's pardon" (when he burped!!). DH was getting really frustrated with him as he was tired himself, and was starting to get angry with Charlie. I could see where it was going so I just offered the suggestion that he might like to try and take Charlie upstairs and just let him cry.

Normally I would have had an argument on my hands, but he just asked me what he needed to do! I was amazed! I said that he needed to take Charlie upstairs, tell him it was bedtime, help him into bed, tuck him in, give him a kiss, then come back down. And he did! There was silence for about 2 minutes, then we heard Charlie patter along the landing and open our bedroom door. After realising we weren't there, he came to the stairgate at the top of the stairs and started crying. DH asked me what to do, so I said to go back up, say one word to him "bedtime", and put him back in bed. He did, and came back down. Another 2 minutes later, and he's off down the landing again into our bedroom, but this time after discovering we weren't there, he went back into his own room! A further minute later, he was back out again, this time crying at the stairgate. So I said to DH not to speak to him this time, just put him back in bed. He did, and that was that for the night! He went straight sleep!!!!!!! :happydance: We both just kept looking at each other in shock and laughing!! We admitted to each other that we'd both just been scared to try a new thing, and now couldn't believe that it was so simple. 2 years of panicking that we wouldn't be able to do something, and it took 5 minutes on the first night!!!! :dohh::rofl:

Last night was even better. DH went to take him up for his bath, so I got my kiss and cuddle before, Charlie said goodnight, then off upstairs. He was bathed, changed, put to bed and had a story read, then DH came downstairs. It took Charlie about 40 minutes to go sleep after that, but he stayed in his room the whole time and didn't cry once. Occassionally we'd hear a little voice singing a nursery rhyme, and he kept muttering to himself, and he even switched the monitor off at one point!! But it was okay because he turned it back on 10 minutes later!!

So, anyone who is struggling with a similar thing (Tezzy!!), just do it. It's nowhere near as bad as you think it'll be!:happydance:
