hello i have posted on here before but wanted to know if any of you wondeful mummies or mummies to be have had a similar experience...

i was informed yesterday by my gyno that this pregnancy is not viable i just dont believe her, so here is my story
i found out i was pregnant on the 25th nov 2011 my LMP was on the 22nd oct 2011, went into doc on the 23rd she did hcg test and came back at 35 she said i was very early and to come back in couple of weeks so i went back on the 8th of dec and she re did my bloods and sent a refferal off for a mid wife and also gave me a refferal to have an ultrasound, i rang and booked the ultrasound for the following day the 9th of dec drank my litre of water like instructed to (wow holding that is hard lol) went for ultrasound (abdominal) she saw a gest sac and said i would only have been about 5 weeks, i rang the doctor that afternoon and got my blood test results which and my hcg level had gone up to 7677 but that night i noticed some blood when i went to the toilet i had no cramping and it was brown blood and not very much i decided to keep an eye on it and only had it once more that night so i rang my doctor first thing in the morning the dec as i had some spotting when i woke up she squeezed me in to see her and she said as long as i have no abdominal pain and the bleeding isnt as heavy or heavier than a period i should be fine but if i was to concerned to go to the hospital so i waited over the weekend still had minor spotting but not everytime i went to the toilet and was only ever on toilet paper but on the monday the 12th of dec i still was spotting and had some little cramps and decided it was best to go out to the hospital, i went out and the doc took my bloods and found out i was o- blood and gave me an anti d shot but was not overly worried about the spotting or cramps he did refer me for another ultrasound a week after the first one and also to gyno to see what the bleeding was coming from and told me to see my doc later in the week so on the thursday the 15th i went back to my doc who informed my hcg levels had gone up to 20000 and that puts me at about 8 weeks, and that everything looked fine and to see how the ultrasound goes tomorrow, went to ultrasound (vaginal this time) on the 16th of dec she said the gest sac had grwon nicely and was about the size of a 6 week and saw a yolk sac inside and she couldnt be 100% sure but said she thinks she may have seen the embryo but said it was most likely still early, she sent me on my way and i had to wait for my gyno app which had been made for the 21st of dec i still had been spotting this whole time and it ranged from brown to pink to red but no cramps, so i went to my gyno app and she basically said to me this pregnancy is not viable and that i should have a d&c straight away because with my hcg levels at 20000 and being i was 6 weeks and 4 days at my last ultrasound she should have at least seen a fetal pole i couldnt believe how cold and callous she was about it she also informed me i had a bicornuate uterus which basically means mine is more the shape of a heart than a pear and that most pregnancies will end in miscarriage beacuse of it i couldnt belive how she just cameout with not compassion or nothing!, i refused and reuested another blood test and ultrasound be done before i make a decsion that is so life changing, she agreed for me to have tehm done the following week and said as i walked out the door if you have not passed it naturally by the 3rd of jan you will have to have a d&c done, i was given a new app for the 3rd of jan i absoloutly bawled my eyes out on the way home and had to deliever the devasting news to everyone waiting at home but then later on in the afternoon i recieved a call from my doctor sugery asking me to come in the next day to see the doc about my results so i make the app for the morning and head off to it and i tell doc all about what the gyno said and he asked me what her name was but i said i didnt even get told that much he then asked me a few questions about her and when i said yeah thats her he just looked disappointed as if it wasnt the first time some one had complained about her, he has asked me to go for a new blood test and ultrasound and have the results deliverd to him so he can check and said just keep clam stay stress free and always remeber sometimes doctors can make mistakes so now i wait intul the 29th of dec for my new tests to see if my baby is ok :/

i would like to know has any mummies out there had high hcg levels and not seen the fetal pole or heartbeat on their ultrasound and gone on to have a beautiful healthy bubba :)

i am thinking postive and keeping happy and believing i am pregnant i dont know something inside tels me she is wrong
im sorry my post is so long and full of to much TMI and thankyou so much for your respones in advance xx baby dust to all you gorgeous mummies out there xx

oh also the gyno said my gest sac was 22mm which she said about 2cm so she should have seen bub :/ xx

Hi,

Someone else will post something a bit more informative Im sure, I have no experience of this but is 5 weeks not too early to see a fetal pole. As far as I have read around the forums here? Good luck anyway and  to you xo

well i think it is to early and i have seen alot of other ladies on here and on other websites that 5 and sometimes even 6 weeks is to early to see a fetal pole..
its all so confusing :/

From what Iv read everyone differs to when a fetal pole is seen, think it just depends how quickly the baby develops, think they usually say something around 24 days from conception but that's just an estimate I think. My old doctor with my first pregnancy said that where I live they don't usually like to do us until your 7 weeks when they know the hb will be there. Sorry I can't be much more help. I have my fingers crossed for you xxx

Hey there,

I have a similar story, I thought I was 6.5 weeks along but ended up i was only 4.5 (weird cycles always changing). My first ultrasound we saw nothing but a sac, I had another app a few days later with my OB who did another u/s at her office and the sac had grown but no fetus present still. She told me to prepare for the worst but not to get too worried until we had done another u/s in 2 weeks.

My next ultrasound was at 7w 3d and there was a beautiful healthy baby in there with a lovely 142bpm heart rate.

Really, everyone is different, we ovulate, develop and carry differently. 5 weeks and under is way too early to see a fetal pole in most cases. I did so much research in those 2 weeks it drove my husband mad, but it helped.

Even in some cases fetal poles and heart beats haven't shown up till week 7!

Good luck, think positive xx:thumbup:

Didnt wanna read and run .
I dont have advice but i do think the doc. Who told you most pregnancies will end in MC because of ur uterus smh is a jerk ! Im sure ur lil bub is fine . Ihave u in my thoughts  :flower:

I have never heard of a hcg level that high and it being a blighted ovum(no viable blahblah) I would get a second opinion. Wait to do the surgery, if even needed. Sending you best wishes.

thankyou guys so much am hoping thursday goes well when i have my ultrasound and blood test done i will not be going back to the gyno i saw she was so cold and rude i will be asking to change you would think with the type of job they have they would have some compassion, even my mum said who has had 6 kids and seen a gyno for each one she had never heard of one being so rude, good luck to all you wonderful mummies H&H 9 months x

I have a similar experience with my last pregnancy. I had u/s at 5, 6 and 7 weeks. They saw nothing but the gestational sac. The Dr ( he wasnt my dr) said I could get a dnc or there is a pill he could give me. My hcg wasn't where they 'thought' it should be. I refused to do anything and decided I would let nature take it's course. I finally saw my dr and he said although it didn't look good that he would schedule one more u/s so I could have closure. Finally at 8+1 there was my baby! So hang tight aren't out yet! I know how hard it is to be going through this. xoxo

Hi hunny
I am really sorry about your awful experience:hugs::hugs::hugs:

I will say you should have hope as there are women who are told this but then find a beautiful bean a few weeks later.

However, with a sac larger than 18-20mm which is the national guidleine cutoff, there should be a fetal pole.

I had a BO this May which i let pass naturally-which meant i passed it at over 15 weeks.

I did wait-as i knew sometimes they can get it wrong.

Did they only do an abdominal scan? They really ought to do a transvaginal. Abdominals are not that accurate at this stage.

I hope that when you go back they scan you first (which is usual practice).:hugs::hugs::hugs::hugs:

I had an ultrasound at exactly 6 weeks pregnant with my son, they didn't see a fetal pole or a heartbeat. Today, he's a healthy, happy 2 1/2 year old. Good luck :)

I had both abdominal and vaginal ultrasounds .. I am hoping that even though my gest sac is 22mm that they will still find the heartbeat and fetal pole this week I just gotta hold out some hope :)
Good luck to all you lovely ladies with you pregnancies x

I'm sorry but I'm new to all the abbreviations what does BO mean? Lol

I had a similar experience with my first pregnancy but unfortunately it was not a happy ending.

I went in for an us at 8 weeks and there was only a sac measuring 6 weeks. By the time I had my dnc a week or so later my hcg was around 100,000.

I was spotting lightly on and off from 6 weeks. No cramps or real signs of anything wrong. At my first blood test my numbers were even doubling. They were still going up a tad the day of the enc but barely. Another us that day confirmed it hadn't grown in almost 4 weeks.

Thank you lilshortcake :)
I'm so sorry to hear lizziesmama hugs to you!
I have had two ultrasounds and my sac had grown from the first ultrasound the lady who did the scan said she was really happy with how everything had progressed so here is hoping for tomorrow seeing a little jellybean and heartbeat!! X

Well I will tell you my story. I had an early scan at 5 weeks 5 days my HCG was 7535 and all they saw was an empty sac. The U/S was vaginal at first but I have a tilted uterus and she couldn't find anything....so switched to abdominal which is when they just saw the sac. Also I have had 2 previous c-sections and am very overweight....both which make early scans difficult without the right equipment.

I was booked into Fetal Maternal Medicine for a high risk scan at 6 weeks 3 days which was vaginal and abdominal again......this time I was able to see and hear the heartbeat!

3 weeks later at 9 weeks 2 days I'm back in my doctors office and she is again doing a scan......as I had been having brown spotting since the end of 5 weeks. Again, vaginally she couldn't even find the pregnancy on her equipment and had to do an abdominal scan. She proceeded to tell me that what she was seeing was bad and that the "embryo" had died. It had stopped growing at 8 week and had no heartbeat. However, she continued to scan and within 2 minutes she did find the heartbeat. Although at this point since the baby is measuring only 8 weeks, I'm still concerned. However, she says well I must have had a bad angle or view was obstructed by scar tissue because baby is perfect now and measuring right where it should.

So it really depends on the equipment and WHO is using it. Every scan my doctor gave me sucked ....thank heavens for high risk. My doctor was finally able to find baby without issues when I was 11 weeks 2 day.

If your levels are rising and they seem to be.....I would certainly demand further testing and ultrasounds. Also she can't bully you into doing a D & C ever if your not comfortable with it so don't let her TELL you what you will be doing. I would ask for a high risk scan....especially since you have a unique uterus and definitely if you're overweight (you didn't say one way or the other) but it does make it much harder to see the baby early on.
Don't do anything that you're not comfortable with.

I also bled for the better part of 3 weeks this pregnancy....only brown but in a previous pregnancy I spotted off and on for 5 weeks and it was bright red blood (that baby is 4 years old now). My current pregnancy is moving along nicely at this point....so things can look really bleak and turn out positive! Good Luck to you!!!!

My 3rd pregnancy ended in a BO diagnosed by U/S at 13.5 weeks. I took medication to induce the miscarriage. I sometimes feel like my previous loss was why it was so easy for my doctor to be so bleak about my pregnancy. Every time I saw her I felt like she was counting me out already!!!

i go in tomorrow at 9.30am for my ultrasound and 11am for my bloods and get results of blood test friday when i see my doc at 10.45am am so hoping to see my baby and heartbeat tomorrow thankyou guys so much for sharing your stories and hugs to all you mums with angel babies xx
