24-30 week babies?

Monday I was admitted to the hospital due to back and front labor, dilated 2cm external and 1cm internal and my cervix is starting to funnel from where baby is. My cervical length went from 4cm to 2.6cm. I was 23+2 then and I'm now 24+1. Me and my husband are overseas in Turkey due to him being active duty USAF, and on Monday they are medivac'ing me to Germany to do a fetal fibronectin test. I'm really scared. The doc here off base (Turkish doc) says she doesn't think he'll stay in longer than 3 more weeks.

Have any of you ladies delivered a baby between 24 and 29/30 weeks? What happened, and what should I expect if he comes before 28 weeks? Did yours survive? I'm not sure what to expect considering we don't know how long my cervix will hold on.

I'm on bedrest, as well as Nifedipine 3x a day - 1 pill and a 200mg progesterone vaginal suppository once at night. And while at the hospital the first time (4/13) he was measuring 25+2 and they gave me the two steroid shots.

I haven't been through this personally however I know a few ladies who have delivered early. All have grown up to be great kids. I think hospital care is excellent these days & there is so much more they can do for premature births. Hope your little one holds off as long as possible. Big hugs xxx

I have a colleague at work who delivered twins at 25 weeks, they needed eye and cardiac specialists but both survived and are spritely 8 year old boys now!

Don't have a similar experience but with medical technology now, babies have a pretty good chance of surviving if born past 24 weeks. I'm sorry, I can't imagine how scared you are! Could your dh get emergency leave considering what's going on? My dh was active duty army but he stayed stateside, so I can't imaging what you're going through!

We have loads of preemie stores in the NICU and Premature Babies section. I had my first at 27+4 weeks - shes turning 6 in June!

Your FFN test may not be accurate - in fact - positive results are VERY unreliable. I had FFN testing with my second child at got at least 4 positives - she was overdue in the end.
The fact you have steroids and you are on progesterone is good however, and his measurements look good - and hopefully this will help whatever the outcome, whether he stays in or has to be born.

As a rough guide, preemies at this stage will require ventilation and incubation -over the weeks the oxygen and heat requirements lessen. Doctors general advise preemies go home around their due date.
