i was wondering if any of you had been offered a glucose test at 28 weeks?
i had my 28 week midwife app today but havent yet been offered one. not that i want one as it sounds gross lol, but if im meant to have one id very much like to know im not putting my baby at risk by not having one.

my midwife is pretty useless and doesnt know alot. so when i asked her if the supositories for hemorroids are safe in pregnancy she told me to ask the doctor, which means booking in for another app of which i dont have time for!

does anyone have the answers!! lol pleeeeease

I have not had any of these and this is my 2nd baby in the last 2 years.

I am assuming these would be things they test for should they feel the need to....??:flower:

From what I am aware they only do the GD test if u have a higher BMI the nurse at mine said I was having it cos I had a slightly higher BMI, also I'm not sure about the pile thing I just use the creams x

Hi babyhopes, I asked my midwife when I saw her for my 25 week app as my cousin who lives London way mentioned she had had the glucose test automatically . However my midwife in Notts said they do not test everyone up here.
Lol know how you feel about midwife not really knowing too much, sounds like mine 'oh make appt with the Dr about that!'

Yes my cream says safe in pregnancy! They do help with the pain and within a few days it had gone :) I would get a nice hot bath first then put the cream on :) x

In my area they don't do them as standard unless you have a high BMI or history or gestational diabetes or are showing to be having a big baby.

Oh nad ask the chemist what you can take for your bottom problem - they are really good at letting you know what is safe.

xx

I was given a lab requisition for a GD test at 20 weeks, and my midwife told me that there wasn't a big rush to get it done, as long as it was done by 30 weeks. It's a standard test they do here.

I'm going today to do mine after work. Ugh - another blood test!

i didnt have glucose test with jake but i need it this time as i was just over the scale.

Here everyone gets a glucose tolerance test no matter what because you can be super healthy and still get gestational diabetes and it can be dangerous for the baby and you. Im surprised at the things they dont do as routine there such as the GTT and the swab for GBS

I had my GD test on tuesday. I was told they only do it if there is a family history, baby is measuring big or you have a higher BMI.

Unfortunately for me, my grandmother, grandfather and auntie where all diagnosed with type 1 diabetes before the age of 35, and my little boy is measuring a week ahead.
Although I haven't heard from them yet, and they said if I had GD, it was likely I'd receive a phone call to book an appointment with the diabetes midwife nurse person. So fingers crossed!

Its not routine for us UK ladies to be offered it though. If you are worried, give your doctors surgery a ring and ask them about it. Or ring your midwife directly and ask her.

:hi: I had my GTT done last week . My midwife offered it to me as I have nan who is diabetic and also I had stillborn little boy last year so I believe she done it to be sure. (my hospital consultant didn't offer it at all)
anyway my results came back and my glucose was raised so now I have to test 4x a day and keep diary and need to stay away from sugar and carbohydrates if possible. Fingers cross it can be control by diet , if not they usually offer tablets.
Hopefully it will be gone after baby born

I had one automatically, no high BMI or weight issue though. Could just be the area.

i see, well my grandpa has type 1 diabetes but not sure when it was diagnosed. maybe i will mention it next time im there

I had glucose test as my has diabetes, my last baby was over 9lb, I've tested positive for glucose in my wee a lot and I'm a multiple mummy. I didn't get one last time but it's highly likely I had gd then too. You also get offered it if you have a bmi of over 30 I believe.
