Hi Everyone im just after some advice really. Toby is still on Apimil first milk and I noticed the other day that they do an apimil 6 months plus follow on milk, should I be giving him this now? Thanks a lot xx

theres no real need unless u feel his milk intake has dropped :) its made for babies who are weaning and not eating as much milk anymore

ive been wondering this too.

Hi if you find out anything let me know. As someone mentioned to me that it has extra nutrients in it that they need at this age? Im a bit scared he wont like it though xx

It dose have extra nutrients but its not recommended unless your baby is not eating a balanced diet and /or is not drinking enough milk for his age which is min 20 oz per day ..

If he drinks less then yes you can give him the follow on milk , but most of the time is just another money making product ..

we haven't switched, i spoke to my hv and we were both happy that maddi is still fine on aptamil hungry baby, and she's eating well, so we haven't bothered switching x

Thanks Everyone im going to stick to what we are on as he is doing fine on that x

I have moved to cow and gate 6 months+ milk.

It says on the carton that babies stored iron levels disappear at 6 months so you have to include more iron in their diets, which the follow on milks have.

If they are getting plenty of iron from other foods then they might not need to change milks xxx

We moved on to 6month+ formula when Josh hit the 6 month mark. 6month+ babies have different needs, they need more calcium, and the 6month+ formula has more calcium.

Josh didn't mind the change at all.

Actually, the fallow up formula is not more or less expensive, it is the same price. It is recommended even if your baby has a balanced diet. Once baby hits the 6months mark, he has different needs.

We also moved over to the follow on milk around the 6 month mark to make sure Hannah was getting enough vitamins and iron.

You can also sometimes find offers with the follow on milk that you cant get with the first stage formula so can occasionally work out cheaper

I was wondering about this too as Kathryn isn't taking 20oz of milk. Some days she is only taking about 13oz no matter how much we try to get into her. Might try the SMA blue as we are on gold at the moment.

I did buy him some of the follow on milk today as we took a walk to tescos. I am going to go into the drop in clinic tomorrow and have him weighed etc and ask the HV there. Either way im not worried as I have had some good advice from u lovely ladies. Thanks a lot xx

Yep if anything it can be cheaper, they do offers on it here where as shops are not allowed to promote 1st and 2nd milks because they like to encourage mums to BF xxx

I moved Salim to aptamil 3 when he turned 6 months old on HV advice. I then changed him to SMA progress as I found the aptamil powder wasnt dissolving properly and it was always lumpy. He also didnt take as much. He absolutely loves the SMA progress and is back to taking 7oz in one feed. It is also cheaper. I was paying 7.91 for aptamil 3 and SMA is 6.00 in Morrisons. You can also use your boots points to buy the progress milk which is really good.
